00:00In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you and with your spirit.
00:21And dear brothers and sisters, as we now come into God's presence for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, I am celebrating today the votive mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus being the first Friday of the month.
00:34Also thinking that this devotion to the heart of our Lord, to his merciful love, is very important to so many people.
00:41And so we approach now the heart of Jesus and confide to his care all of our needs, our worries, and our wants.
00:49The needs of our brothers and sisters and particularly the needs of the whole world.
00:55Dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate Sacred Mysteries.
01:04You were sent to heal the contrite of heart. Lord, have mercy.
01:08You came to call sinners. Christ, have mercy.
01:13You are seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede for us. Lord, have mercy.
01:20May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.
01:27Let us pray.
01:31Grant, we pray, Almighty God, that we, who glory in the heart of your beloved Son,
01:38and recall the wonders of his love for us,
01:41may be made ready to receive an overflowing measure of grace
01:45from that fount of heavenly gifts.
01:48Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you
01:52in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
01:58A reading from the book of Genesis.
02:00The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and seventy-seven years.
02:07She died at Kiriat Arbat, or Hebron, in the land of Canaan,
02:12and Abraham went to mourn and grieve for her.
02:15Then, leaving his dead, Abraham spoke to the sons of Heth.
02:19I am a stranger and a settler among you, he said.
02:23Let me own a burial plot among you,
02:25so that I may take my dead wife and bury her.
02:28After this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah
02:32in the cave of the field of Machpelah, opposite Mamre,
02:36in the country of Canaan.
02:39By now, Abraham was an old man well on in years,
02:44and the Lord had blessed him in every way.
02:47Abraham said to the eldest servant of his household,
02:50the steward of all his property,
02:51Place your hand under my thigh.
02:55I would have you swear by the Lord, God of heaven and God of earth,
02:59that you will not choose a wife for my son
03:02from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.
03:06Instead, go to my own land and my own kinsfolk
03:10to choose a wife for my son Isaac.
03:14The servant asked him,
03:15What if the woman does not want to come with me to this country?
03:20Must I take your son back to the country from which you came?
03:24Abraham answered,
03:25On no account take my son back there.
03:28The Lord, God of heaven and God of earth,
03:31took me from my father's home,
03:33and from the land of my father's home,
03:35and from the land of my kinsfolk,
03:38and he swore to me that he would give this country to my descendants.
03:43He will now send his angel ahead of you,
03:46so that you may choose a wife for my son there.
03:50And if the woman does not want to come with you,
03:52you will be free from this oath of mine.
03:55Only do not take my son back there.
03:59Isaac, who lived in the Negev,
04:02had meanwhile come into the wilderness of the well of Lahairoi.
04:06Now Isaac went walking in the fields as evening fell,
04:11and looking up, saw camels approaching.
04:15And Rebekah looked up and saw Isaac.
04:18She jumped down from her camel and asked the servant,
04:21Who is that man walking through the fields to meet us?
04:26The servant replied,
04:28That is my master.
04:30Then she took her veil and hid her face.
04:33The servant told Isaac the whole story.
04:37And Isaac led Rebekah into his tent and made her his wife.
04:41And he loved her.
04:44And so Isaac was consoled for the loss of his mother.
04:49The Word of the Lord
04:51Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
04:57Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
05:00But give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
05:02For his great love is without end.
05:05Who can tell the Lord's mighty deeds?
05:08Who can recount all his praise?
05:11Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
05:14They are happy who do what is right,
05:16who at all times do what is just.
05:18O Lord, remember me out of the love you have for your people.
05:24Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
05:27Come to me, Lord, with your help,
05:29that I may see the joy of your chosen ones,
05:33and may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
05:36and share the glory of your people.
05:39Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
05:42Alleluia, alleluia, come to me,
05:47all you that labor and are burdened,
05:50and I will give you rest, says the Lord.
05:53Alleluia.
05:59The Lord be with you.
06:01A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
06:04As Jesus was walking,
06:10he saw a man named Matthew sitting by the customs house,
06:15and he said to him,
06:17Follow me.
06:19And he got up and followed him.
06:23While he was at dinner in the house,
06:25it happened that a number of tax collectors and sinners
06:29came to sit at the table with Jesus and his disciples.
06:34When the Pharisees saw this,
06:37they said to his disciples,
06:39Why does your master eat with tax collectors and sinners?
06:44When he heard this, he replied,
06:47It is not the healthy who need the doctor,
06:50but the sick.
06:51Go and learn the meaning of the words.
06:55What I want is mercy, not sacrifice.
06:59And indeed, I did not come to call the virtuous,
07:04but sinners.
07:06The Gospel of the Lord.
07:29Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
07:32for through your goodness,
07:34we have received the bread we offer you,
07:36the fruit of the earth,
07:37and work of human hands.
07:39It will become for us the bread of life.
07:59Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
08:08for through your goodness,
08:10we have received the wine we offer you,
08:12fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
08:14It will become for us our spiritual drink.
08:17As usual, dear friends,
08:36I'm offering this Mass also in a special way for you who are watching this.
08:40And so I invite you now,
08:41especially as we enter this moment of the offer tree,
08:46to also bring your own intentions,
08:48your own needs.
08:49And you might do that by offering it to God in the silence of prayer,
08:53or by putting it in the comment section of this video,
08:56so that others, we,
08:57can also join you in your prayer,
08:59specifically for your intentions.
09:01Pray, brothers and sisters,
09:08that my sacrifice and yours
09:09may be acceptable to God,
09:11the Almighty Father.
09:13May the Lord accept the sacrifice of your hands
09:16for the praise and the glory of his name,
09:18for our good and the good of all,
09:20his holy church.
09:22Look, O Lord, we pray on the surpassing charity
09:25in the heart of your beloved Son,
09:28that what we offer
09:29may be a gift acceptable to you
09:32and an expiation of our offenses.
09:36Through Christ our Lord.
09:37Amen.
09:39The Lord be with you and with your spirit.
09:41Lift up your hearts.
09:43We lift them up to the Lord.
09:44Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
09:47It is right and just.
09:49It is truly right and just.
09:51Our duty and our salvation
09:53always and everywhere to give you thanks.
09:56Lord, Holy Father,
09:57Almighty and eternal God,
10:00through Christ our Lord.
10:02For raised up high on the cross,
10:05he gave himself up for us
10:07with a wonderful love
10:09and poured out blood and water
10:11from his pierced side,
10:13the wellspring of the church's sacraments,
10:16so that one over to the open heart of the Savior,
10:20all might throw water joyfully
10:22from the springs of salvation.
10:25And so with all the angels and saints,
10:27we praise you,
10:28as without end we acclaim.
10:31Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
10:34God of hosts,
10:36heaven and earth are full of your glory.
10:39Hosanna in the highest.
10:41Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
