00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, peace be with you.
00:20We acknowledge our sins, more importantly, God's compassion.
00:25You are with us in our weakness, Lord, have mercy.
00:28You are with us in our struggles, Christ, have mercy.
00:32And you tend to good everything for those who love you, Lord, have mercy.
00:37May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
00:45Let us pray.
00:46Grant us, Lord our God, that we may honor you with all our mind and love everyone in truth of heart.
00:53Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
01:01Amen.
01:02A reading from the second book of Samuel.
01:05King David said to Joab and to the senior army officers who were with him,
01:12Now go throughout the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and take a census of the people, I wish to know the size of the population.
01:23Joab gave the king the figures for the census of the people.
01:26Israel numbered 800,000 armed men, capable of drawing sword, and Judah 500,000 men.
01:35But afterwards David's heart misgave him for having taken a census of the people.
01:41I have committed a grave sin, David said to the Lord.
01:45But now, Lord, I beg you to forgive your servant for the fault I have been very foolish.
01:51But when David got up the next morning, the following message had come from the Lord to the prophet God, David's seer.
02:01Go and say to David, the Lord says this, I offer you three things.
02:07Choose one of them for me to do to you.
02:10So God went to David and told him,
02:14Are three years of famine to come on you in your country?
02:18He said, Or will you flee for three months before you are pursuing enemy?
02:24Or would you rather have three days of pestilence in your country?
02:30Now think and decide how to answer him who sends me.
02:35David said to God,
02:37This is a hard choice, but let us rather fall into the power of the Lord,
02:42since his mercy is great and not into the power of man.
02:46So David chose pestilence.
02:49It was the time of the wheat harvest.
02:52The Lord sent a pestilence on Israel from morning to the time appointed and plague ravaged the people.
02:59And from Dan to Percheba, 70,000 men of them died.
03:04The angel stretched out his hand towards Jerusalem to destroy it.
03:08But the Lord thought better of this evil.
03:12And he said to the angel who was destroying the people,
03:16Enough!
03:17Now withdraw your hand.
03:19The angel of the Lord was beside the threshing floor of Arunah the Jebusite.
03:24When David saw the angel who was ravaging the people,
03:28he spoke to the Lord,
03:30It is I who sinned, he said.
03:32I who did this wicked thing.
03:34But these, this flock,
03:36what have they done?
03:37Let your hand lie heavy on me,
03:40then on my,
03:41on me then,
03:43and on my family.
03:45The word of the Lord.
03:47Thanks be to God.
03:50Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
03:52Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
03:55Happy the man whose offense is forgiven,
03:58whose sin is remitted.
04:01Oh, happy the one to whom the Lord reputes no guilt,
04:04in whose spirit is no guile.
04:06Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
04:10But now I have acknowledged my sins,
04:13my guilt I did not hide.
04:15I said I will confess my offense to the Lord,
04:18and you, Lord, have forgiven the guilt of my sin.
04:22Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
04:24So, let every good man pray to you at the time of need.
04:30The floods of water may reach high,
04:33but him they shall not touch.
04:36Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
04:39You are my hiding place, O Lord.
04:44You saved me from distress.
04:47You surround me with cries of deliverance.
04:50Lord, forgive the wrong I have done.
04:52Alleluia, alleluia.
04:55My sheep listen to my voice, says the Lord.
04:58I know them, and they follow me.
05:00Alleluia.
05:01The Lord be with you.
05:05A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
05:08Jesus went to his hometown,
05:13and his disciples accompanied him.
05:16With the coming of the Sabbath,
05:17he began teaching in the synagogue,
05:20and most of them were astonished when they heard him.
05:23They said,
05:24Where did the man get all this?
05:26What is this wisdom that has been granted him?
05:29And the miracles that are worked through him.
05:36This is the carpenter, surely, the son of Mary,
05:40the brother of James, and Joseph, and Jude, and Simon.
05:44His sisters, too, are they not here with us?
05:46And they would not accept him.
05:48And Jesus said to them,
05:50A prophet is only despised in his own country,
05:53and among his own relations,
05:56and on his own house.
05:57And he could work no miracle there,
06:00though he cured a few sick people
06:02by laying his hands on them.
06:04He was amazed at the lack of faith.
06:08The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
06:11Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
06:15They had their presuppositions,
06:18and they stuck to their presuppositions,
06:20and they would not allow the Holy Spirit
06:22to work through them.
06:24I read a beautiful image today
06:25in the Office of Readings,
06:27I talked about the fishermen.
06:29When the water is clear,
06:31they can see the fish.
06:32When the water is muddy,
06:34and it is growing,
06:35they cannot see the fish.
06:37And when we don't allow the Holy Spirit
06:40to purify our mind,
06:41when we allow ourselves to be trapped
06:43in our own way of doing things,
06:46and not give God a chance,
06:47when there is turbulence within us,
06:50we are not allowing the good spirit
06:51to speak to us.
06:53We are trapped,
06:54and it gives way
06:55for the bad spirit to come
06:56and trap us
06:58and block listening to God's will.
07:01So, there is a reminder
07:02that we need that stillness,
07:04that stillness of spirit,
07:06and to put before God
07:07whatever is in our heart,
07:08and to let God come in
07:10and not be trapped
07:11by our own presuppositions
07:13and our own blindedness,
07:16but that the Lord
07:17can help us to see.
07:18Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
07:30for to your goodness
07:31we have this bread to offer,
07:33which earth has given,
07:34human hands have made.
07:35It will become for us
07:36the bread of life.
07:38Blessed be God forever.
07:40Amen.
07:40Amen.
07:48Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
07:58for to your goodness
07:58we have this wine to offer,
08:00fruit of divine work
08:01of human hands,
08:02it will become a spiritual drink.
08:05Blessed be God forever.
08:06Let us pray, brothers and sisters,
08:19that my sacrifice and yours
08:20may be acceptable
08:21to God, our Almighty Father.
08:24May the Lord accept
08:25the sacrifice at our hands
08:27for the praise and glory
08:28of God's name,
08:29for our good
08:30and the good of God's Holy Church.
08:33Lord, we bring you to your altar
08:35these offerings of our service.
08:36Be pleased to receive them,
08:38we pray,
08:38and transform them
08:39into the sacrament
08:40of our redemption.
08:42Through Christ our Lord.
08:43Amen.
08:45The Lord be with you.
08:47Lift up your hearts.
08:50Let us give thanks
08:51to the Lord our God.
08:53It is truly right and just
08:54our duty and our salvation,
08:56always and everywhere,
08:57to give you thanks,
08:58Father most holy,
09:00for your beloved Son,
09:01Jesus Christ,
09:02your work,
09:03for whom you made all things,
09:05whom you sent
09:05as our Savior and Redeemer,
09:08incarnate by the Holy Spirit
09:09and born of the Virgin,
09:11fulfilling your will
09:12and gaining for you
09:13a holy people,
09:14he stretched out his hands
09:16as he endured his passion,
09:18so as to break the bonds of death
09:20and manifest the resurrection.
09:22And so,
09:23with the angels
09:23and all the saints,
09:24we declare your glory,
09:26as with one voice,
09:27we acclaim,
09:28holy,
09:29holy,
09:29holy Lord,
09:30God of hosts,
09:32heaven and earth
09:32are full of your glory.
09:34Hosanna in the highest.
09:36Blessed is he who comes
09:38in the name of the Lord.
09:40Hosanna in the highest.
09:42You are indeed holy,
09:43O Lord,
09:44the font of all holiness.
09:46Make holy,
09:46therefore,
09:47these gifts,
09:47we pray,
09:48by sending down your spirit
09:49upon them
09:50like the dewfall,
09:51so that they may become
09:52for us
09:53the body and blood
09:54of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:56At the time
09:57he was betrayed
09:58and entered willingly
09:59into his passion,
10:01he took bread
10:02and giving thanks
10:03broke it
10:04and gave it
10:05to his disciples,
10:06saying,
10:07take this all of you
10:08and eat of it,
10:09for this is my body
10:10which will be given up
10:12for you.
10:18In a similar way,
10:20when supper was ended,
10:21he took the chalice,
10:22and once more
10:25giving thanks,
10:27he gave it
10:27to his disciples,
10:28saying,
10:29take this all of you
10:30and drink from it,
10:31for this is the chalice
10:33of my blood,
10:34the blood of the new
10:35and eternal covenant,
10:37which will be poured out
10:38for you
10:39and for many
10:40for the forgiveness
10:41of sins.
10:43Do this
10:43in memory of me.
10:45in mystery of faith,
10:54we proclaim your death,
10:55O Lord,
10:56and profess your resurrection
10:58until you come again.
11:07Therefore,
11:07as we celebrate
11:08the memorial
11:09of his death
11:09and resurrection,
11:10we offer you,
11:12Lord,
11:12the bread of life
11:13and the chalice
11:13of salvation,
11:15giving thanks
11:16that you've held us
11:16worthy to be
11:18in your presence
11:18and minister to you.
11:21Humbly we pray
11:22that partaking
11:23of the body
11:23and blood of Christ,
11:25we may be gathered
11:26into one
11:26by the Holy Spirit.
