00:00Opposition leader Penelope Beckels says the government's national recruitment drive has failed to meet its hiring targets.
00:06In a statement, Beckels claims that while 20,000 jobs were promised in October 2025, only 1,801 people have
00:16been hired to date.
00:17She says more than 110,000 applications were submitted and argues that fewer than 2% of applicants have secured
00:25employment.
00:26Beckels contends that the recruitment exercise created expectations among young people and displaced workers, but has not delivered meaningful relief.
00:36She further alleges that tens of thousands of workers were dismissed within the government's first 10 months in office.
00:42The opposition leader also referenced previous comments made by the Prime Minister, criticizing CPEP and URP programs, arguing that those
00:52who were removed from those initiatives have not been adequately supported.
00:56Beckels is calling on the government to account for the outcome of the recruitment initiative and to provide clarity on
01:03its broader employment strategy, as citizens continue to face rising living costs.
