00:00Welcome back to the TV6 News. Another man has been charged and a young woman is said to be in witness protection as the investigation into the shooting death of Savannah Dyer continues. Dyer had her final rights today. Renessa Cutting reports.
00:17A second suspect was due to appear in court today to be charged with the murder of Savannah Dyer after being discharged from St. Dan's Hospital, while a young female is said to be in witness protection, assisting police with the investigation. At her funeral service today, Savannah Dyer was remembered as a shining light in her family, loving, adventurous and fearless.
00:41Bishop Andrew John lamented that mankind is wicked, but he reminded the congregation that God has the final say.
00:49The ones who did this do not have finality with them. God is the one who has finality with everything that is in this life. And whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. God is the one with finality.
01:08Don't take it for granted. These people are wicked. Listen to me. God says judgment is mine. I, not me, I, God, will repay. There is payday coming.
01:23Reports indicate that Savannah was killed after relaying information to a friend, which implicated one of the murder accused and another friend, the young woman now said to be in witness protection.
01:35We, we, we, we face complex situations in our lives where we don't really know who to trust, what, who is really a friend.
01:47Even as we sit here today in this celebration of life, we never keep it for anything like this.
01:54Unfortunately, it happens, not just to her, but to many people it happens.
02:04Therefore, we have to be always be alert.
02:09The bishop is offering the following advice to young people.
02:12So, slow down, slow down, slow down, slow down, slow down, and get rid of the waste in your life.
02:29Get rid.
02:30There are some things you don't need.
02:33You just don't need it.
02:35There are some people you don't need in your space.
02:37You don't need in your space.
02:41You soon discover that silence is your greatest strength, and being alone is your greatest safety when you slow down.
02:51Renessa Cutting, TV6 News.
02:55Meanwhile, former Minister Donna Cox, who knew Savannah Dyer personally, reflected on her time shared with the deceased.
03:02Savannah is her family friend.
03:05I know Savannah from very small, very lovely girl, very, very loving.
03:11She never passed me straight anywhere, wherever she saw me.
03:15Actually, she called me Auntie Donna.
03:17And wherever she saw me, she would hug and kiss.
03:21That's to tell you the personality.
03:23You know, I'm so sorry that she had to have such a gruesome death.
03:27And this is serious.
03:30And we need to look inwardly.
03:34I mean, what type of children are we raising that, you know, persons would choose to just kill for whatever reason?
03:41Something is wrong.
03:42And, you know, my personal sentiment is we need to get back to God.
03:46Because I feel if we do, the crime situation and persons killing each other for, you know, frivolous reasons, that will stop.
03:57And that's all I have to say to the population today, to the parents, to the children, to everyone.
04:01We have to start to look in the mirror and know that we have a role to play to stop what is happening here.
04:07Too many gruesome murders, too many young girls are being killed.
04:11And therefore, we all have a role to play in this.
04:14Mrs. Cox says she's confident that justice will be saved for Savannah.
04:19But she's appealing to anyone with information to contact the police.
04:25I just want to commend the police because I realize that they work very quick, you know, with regards to apprehending persons and so on.
04:35I understand one person was charged.
04:37And so I'm happy that this is happening.
04:40And, again, as we say, if you see something, say something.
04:45So there are persons out there who may know even more information and they need to come forward.
04:49Because today it could be Savannah.
04:52Another day it could be your daughter or your son.
04:55So don't pull back and, you know, decide that you will not be a part of it.
04:58You have to.
04:58Because it could happen at any time to anyone.
05:02Over 100 people turned out to the West End Christian Fellowship Church in Dago Martin for the funeral service, including Sharon Rowley.
05:10Two armed officers were posted outside the church, keeping a watchful eye and ensuring the safety of mourners.
05:17Dyer, whose body was found at the roadside in Carlson Field on June 14th, had her final rights at the long circular crematorium in St. James.
