00:00We saw how sort of down Lewis was after Spain, but it turns out that they did both have issues with the cars and now coming here.
00:07Oh, we've got a yellow flag already for a track hazard somewhere out on the track.
00:11See if we can find where that is. It looks like it could be. Is it down?
00:14Oh, there it is. It's a spinning Alpine, which is Colopinto. Franco Colopinto.
00:19Has he had a spin coming out of the pits?
00:22So he was starting his first push lap. It wasn't coming out of the pits.
00:26So here we see he comes across the timing line.
00:30He turns through to a little bit wide there. Didn't get the inside curb.
00:34And then, ooh, that's odd.
00:36Very, you know, sort of just a slow spin, wasn't it?
00:42And once the momentum started to shift, let's see.
00:44I wonder if there's a bit of rear locking or something on the diff or just something not quite set up right on the system.
00:52Oh, I'm just very happy.
00:55Oh, all right.
00:56So they can have a look on the data.
00:59They'll get the numbers in terms of what sort of steering loads he's feeling through the power steering system.
01:06In fact, at the last race, it's...
01:08Oh!
01:11Yeah, just locked the rear there.
01:13OK, we'll look into it.
01:15Yeah, very unusual.
01:18Quite an aggressive locking.
01:19Separated, I should say, by four seconds.
01:22So let's hope we have a repeat of some close racing and close qualifying this weekend.
01:26Yeah, it was a tricky race last year, wasn't it?
01:28Because it started in very wet conditions.
01:30Then it started to go to the drives and cross over.
01:32We have safety cars.
01:33I don't know what happened in the hairpin.
01:36Actually, I locked the rear completely, so I don't feel too much.
01:39But then when I came on the throttle, something happened.
01:43You're wondering why you're not seeing Oscar on track or you're seeing him on the timing tower saying that he's in the pit.
01:48He's having that massive aero rake.
01:50Is there a replay happening?
01:51We're just watching Gabriel Portiletto.
01:53Ah, just gone straight on at the end of that.
01:57I mean, it's so dusty on the track.
01:58I can see just looking down to turn one.
01:59We've got a big, big shunt for Charles Leclerc here into barriers down there at turn four.
02:07Yeah, I wonder if he's lost it coming over the kerb at turn three to four.
02:13But they don't really...
02:17You don't get away with anything if you've made an error in that section.
02:20The walls are so close to the edge of the track.
02:24And let's have a look at the replay.
02:27So he's coming through turn one and two.
02:29Racing Bull stays nicely out of the way.
02:32Accelerating up the hill.
02:34Should grab the inside kerb.
02:36Oh, no, he's completely locked up.
02:38Oh, and he's at the battery on the left.
02:42Oh, wow.
02:42Just carried way, way too much speed into it.
02:46And then snatched the front.
02:48And then at that stage, you're just a passenger sliding to earth.
02:51That's a horrible feeling because you're just sliding and sliding across the grass.
02:54You see the wall coming.
02:56And there's nothing you could do at that point.
02:58Um, yeah.
03:02Sorry.
03:03I'm in the wall.
03:05It just shows the speed of these cars, isn't it?
03:17You know, for him, it's a gentle...
03:18It feels like a gentle clip.
03:19Yeah.
03:19He's written off the entire left-hand side, both corners.
03:22I was going to say, unfortunate for him.
03:24He's done front and rear, hasn't he, in that?
03:25Yeah.
03:26It's a great deal of damage done there.
03:29So, just as, to quote Martin Brondon, too much ambition over adhesion, yeah, as he went
03:37in and not really close to the apex.
03:41He was locked up and he'd slid probably two car weights away from where he would want to
03:46be on that inside kerb.
03:48So, when he says, I should have gone straight on...
03:50He should have come off the brake earlier.
03:52Right.
03:52And turned, like, at this stage, when it's, as soon as it initially snatched, he should
03:58have tried to just accept, you know, he's tried to slow it down to try and make the corner.
04:04Right.
04:04But at that point, earlier, if you abandon it, you come off the brake, you have less of a
04:08lock-up, and then you just go across the grass.
04:11So, you...
04:11By trying to not abandon the lap, he's ended up doing the opposite and hitting
04:18the barrier.
04:18This is Gabriel Borselletto's moment a little earlier on as well.
04:24Holy f***.
04:26Man, oh my God!
04:27What is this guy doing?
04:31But, I think Charles himself will admit, at this level, you shouldn't be, you know, that
04:36shouldn't be something that surprised him.
04:38Moment there for George Russell as well.
04:41Yeah, it just went in my...
04:43You know, you can see when he came through that right-hand range, you see the dust.
04:47Yeah.
04:48Coming out.
04:48Oh, Ted was saying earlier, turn five.
04:50You just see that plume of dust, and then you get the dust on the tyres when you try
04:54and turn in.
04:55Lando Norris going wide down at the 8-9 chicane across the grass.
04:59No real harm done there.
05:02Here we go.
05:03Down.
05:03So he's come through.
05:048-9 chicane.
05:06Down to 10.
05:06Just the rear coming around slowly on him.
05:14On Lando's case, he caught it, it didn't spin all the way around.
05:18In Lewis' case, the rear just carried on rotating.
05:21Then you've got a lot of weight nowadays, these cars, you know, with a bit of fuel on
05:25board.
05:26It's probably 850-odd kilos.
05:27It's a pit entry here, pit entry, pit exit, just on there on the left, and everyone else
05:31carrying on coming down here.
05:33Yeah, you see what's been through it.
05:34Yeah, you cut out some time, don't you?
05:37Yeah.
05:37You cut turn one, and you come to last corner, so, you know, it's working as best as they
05:42can before the team becomes Audi.
05:44George Russell, then, goes quickest with a 1.13 fire.
05:52This is Hulkenberg running very, very close to the wall, coming out of the final chicane.
05:58Did he touch it?
05:59Let's have a look at this angle.
06:00I couldn't quite see from the earlier angle.
06:03He did?
06:04Yes.
06:06Yeah, might have got away with it in terms of damage.
06:09Oh, it says he didn't.
06:12Oh.
06:13I don't know.
06:17I feel like he did touch it, but...
06:18I wouldn't want to defend that in court, but it's very, very close.
06:23We've got this driver who is today the number one driver on the grid, and if we give him
06:27the opportunity of the best car to suit his style, he will deliver the driver's championship.
06:33Or, do we say, let's see the staff and just go around the Ferrari.
06:36Yeah.
06:40Close.
06:40Yeah, he's probably right there, isn't he?
06:43He had to get on the grass.
06:44Yeah.
06:45There's no way, you know, essentially, any weakness of your car will get exposed to Barcelona.
06:51What Albon is doing this session is, yeah, out of two is, yeah, crazy.
07:01Yeah, that's the second time that Alex has made a late lunge out of the way of somebody.
07:06As you said, long-duration corner sustained G.
07:09And, James, just from me, I mean, you're sitting fifth in the constructors right now,
07:12in quite a comfortable position.
07:14You're 90 behind Red Bull in fourth, but well ahead of RB in sixth right now.
07:19Would that be a good result for you to finish the season in fifth?
07:22Can you target any higher?
07:23A, it would be a great result for us this year to be fifth.
07:28It doesn't feel comfortable.
07:29We're just seeing a quick replay of Oscar Piastri.
07:31Let's see what happened to him.
07:34Just a handful of three there, wasn't it?
07:36No, he just got a little bit punchy with his right foot.
07:38As he's coming off the kerb, he took a stab at the throttle, a little bit over here,
07:42but a couple of dark lines there, but no major problem.
07:46The fact that he's able to throw the car around towards the end of this FB1
07:52suggests to me that the confidence is building.
07:55I mean, how patient can you be?
07:56He's been asked to Martin now for a little while, hasn't it?
08:00Yes.
08:02Are we now into our third year as Aston Martin?
08:05It's more than that.
08:06Maybe the fourth season, 2022, isn't it?
08:09Yeah, so we're...
08:10It's their 100th start this weekend as Aston Martin.
08:14Well, that is it then for first practice here in Montreal in Canada.
08:18And as I mentioned, Max Verstappen in the Red Bull was the quickest with a 113.1,
08:24but the two Williams, second and third quickest, Alex Albon,
08:27just ahead of his teammate by five 100ths.
08:30And George Russell in the Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari,
08:33Isaac Hadja made some balls look quick this weekend or expected to be anyway.
08:37Lando Norris having some issues at the hairpin with 7th quickest ahead of Liam Lawson,
08:42Pierre Gasly.
08:43And Charles Leclerc in the other Ferrari, though, he had that crash at turn four.
08:46They will be quickly trying to repair that to get that back out for the second practice session this afternoon.
08:52Yuki Tsunoda in the other Red Bull was 11th quickest than Fernando Alonso,
08:56ahead of Kimi Antonelli.
08:57Oscar Piastri not really finding the space on track he wanted to put a proper lap in,
09:01and that session was 14th quickest ahead of Lance Droll,
09:04who's back in the car for Aston Martin this weekend.
09:06Edward Bartoletto, Oliver Baerman, Estefan Ocon, Franco Colapinto,
09:10and Nico Hülkenberg complete your 20 drivers in that first practice session,
09:14and we'll be back a little later for second practice.
