00:00Yeah, for everybody on the right-hand side of the grid.
00:03And that is very bad news for Nico Hülkenberg before we even get going.
00:08Down at Sauber, they're telling him to peel off into the pit lane to retire the car.
00:14Oh, man. Are you serious?
00:17And it's a 476-meter charge down towards the first chicane, the Italian Grand Prix in 2025.
00:25It's lights out, and away we go. Verstappen then leads them away.
00:31Here comes Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri getting a slipstream behind Verstappen.
00:35And then Charles Leclerc as Norris gets onto the grass and manages to keep it under control.
00:40Into that first chicane we go, and Max Verstappen goes wide, goes off the runoff area, retains the lead.
00:47Charles Leclerc gets ahead of Oscar Piastri.
00:49Verstappen will have to give that place back. I think he'll do that in the least pain he can get away with.
00:54And look at the Ferrari of Leclerc right in the slipstream as well.
00:58So, Max, I believe that he kept or maintained position by going off the track.
01:03We'll see it again, but at the moment he is not feeling the need to yield that.
01:07Charles Leclerc on the charge, almost went right into the back there of Lando Norris,
01:11but round the outside goes Oscar Piastri. That was bold and brave.
01:15And that's got his third place back again.
01:17Wow. Not preserving his championship lead.
01:19He's going all out of aggression there to win that place back.
01:23Yeah, what the... What's this idiot doing? Come on.
01:27He's put me in the grass and he's just got to cool.
01:29And the concern about that is any aerodynamic damage, but also grass and that in your radiator duct.
01:36These cars are only cooled by passing through the air.
01:38Kimi Antonelli's had a bad start. He's down at a 10th.
01:42Hamilton is up to 9th.
01:43Tsunoda 8th.
01:44Alonso 7th and Bortoletto 6th.
01:46Race controls no to that incident.
01:48Between Verstappen and Norris.
01:50Verstappen's being told to give back the position.
01:53Where's he going to do that?
01:54As he crosses the line ahead then of Lando Norris.
01:57Piastri ahead of Charles Leclerc.
01:59That's where the position is then given back.
02:01Lando Norris now leads the Italian Grand Prix.
02:04Charles Leclerc is getting involved once again.
02:06Down the inside goes Oscar Piastri.
02:09Charles Leclerc.
02:10Brilliant switcheroo down at that chicane.
02:12And I think he's going to get past Oscar Piastri.
02:15What a battle these two have given us.
02:16Through the curva grande.
02:17The Ferrari's up to third place.
02:19Superb driving all around.
02:21Piastri taking some gambles, it must be said.
02:23And trying to go down the outside again.
02:26Max let that position go in just the right place.
02:29So that they could squabble behind him.
02:31And he maintained second.
02:33So DRS will now be enabled.
02:36And very close indeed.
02:37He'll get the rear wing open.
02:38He's got a chance on the brakes.
02:40Down into the first chicane.
02:41It's only worth about 10 kilometers an hour of extra speed.
02:44And the Red Bull is the DRS.
02:45But it's working to great effect there.
02:47Verstappen under braking.
02:49Gets it slowed down.
02:50Norris locks up.
02:52Verstappen though keeps it on the road.
02:54And he gets the race lead.
02:55Back again.
02:56So here on lap four.
02:57Max Verstappen who had to give a place back at the start to Lando Norris.
03:01Now gets it back.
03:02And takes the lead.
03:03And charges onwards towards the two Les Mo corners.
03:06And Piastri then with an even better chance on the Ferrari this time.
03:10If he's late on the brakes.
03:11This is going to be tight.
03:12This is going to be really tight.
03:14And Piastri is late enough on the brakes to squeeze his way through.
03:17And up into third.
03:18Super smart from Piastri.
03:20He left loads of space for the Ferrari on the inside.
03:23So they didn't get spun around.
03:26Lap seven of 53 here.
03:29Has the Ferrari got the speed to come back?
03:31And Oscar Piastri again.
03:32I'll tell you what.
03:32The other Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton's got some speed on Gabriel Bortoleto.
03:36That's another move from Lewis Hamilton.
03:38Started tenth.
03:38And he's now up into sixth place.
03:41George Russell, his former teammate, is the one ahead.
03:44And that's Tsunoda and Hamilton incident.
03:46No further investigations.
03:48We watch now Isaac Hadja in the Racing Bulls.
03:51Making a move on Franco Colopinto.
03:53Well, trying to.
03:54But then realizing, as you were saying, Martin,
03:56it goes from three lanes into two.
03:58And there was no room to get past.
04:00Especially for this phase of the race.
04:02Now, why, you're asking, has Esteban Ocon got a penalty?
04:05So into the second chicane we go.
04:07And there's Lance Stroll on the grass.
04:09And that is why.
04:10Not enough space was left for two cars to remain on the asphalt.
04:14And Esteban Ocon picks up the penalty for that.
04:17Last year.
04:18I didn't see the gravel.
04:19Yeah.
04:20Meister, I think.
04:22Yeah.
04:23And you could hear the bottom of the car, couldn't you?
04:26Crunching down the serrated.
04:27Oh, you know, you can see the sparks.
04:29That made such a mess with his aerodynamics.
04:32Portoleto's pitted.
04:33And Alonso's gear.
04:34And just, you can hear the wheels spin as they get there.
05:03They're foot flat to the floor.
05:05And not spinning quite so much, Portoleto.
05:08Good momentum from him.
05:09And he manages to get past the racing bulls.
05:12Yeah.
05:12His front wing must have been perilously close to, as Antonelli takes to the runoff area.
05:19After a lockup, as soon as your wheels stop rotating, you've got, you've halved the grip.
05:25You cannot slow down.
05:27Oh, Fernando Alonso.
05:29Is that a right rear puncture?
05:31It looks a bit...
05:32It does look to be a bit low down.
05:35That does look like a puncture, doesn't it, for Fernando Alonso.
05:38Just look at the balance of the car as he comes in.
05:42Is it suspension failure?
05:43Yeah, possibly.
05:44What is it going on there?
05:46Suspension failure.
05:48This is unbelievable, mate.
05:49Oh, that is so, so disappointing.
05:52Ted Kravitz, he came into this weekend not expecting much.
05:54And he was having a really good race battle that he was winning with Gabriel Portoleto.
05:59Yeah, it's the front right.
06:00It's the front right.
06:01The mechanics are pointing at it.
06:03Fernando's so disappointed.
06:05And wow, you can go from elation for winning that position to Portoleto to complete despair.
06:10Alonso can't wait to get out of the...
06:12Well, that's possibly...
06:13Yeah, that's, well, definitely happening.
06:15But, yeah, Alonso lifting the headrest out himself because he's just so annoyed.
06:20He can't wait to get out of the car.
06:22At the end.
06:23As Liam Lawson goes battling with Yuki Tsunoda
06:26and there's contact between the two cars.
06:28Once, twice, three times, four times.
06:30And it all ends up getting very scrappy as he moves fast.
06:32What a stupid road.
06:34Second race in a row that Liam Lawson's made contact with another car.
06:38He actually just took three tens out of Norris' lead there.
06:41Here comes Kimi Antonelli around the outside of the Curva Grande.
06:44Go on, Kimi, give it some.
06:45And he has up in the 10th place.
06:47Nice.
06:48From Kimi Antonelli and gets the move done on Pierre Gasly.
06:53Here comes Carlos Sainz for another stab at it through the Curva Grande.
06:56Is he going to go around the outside?
06:57No, he's going to try going down the inside here
06:59because Behrmann had him covered off to the left-hand side.
07:02But now, oh, they tangle.
07:05It was the outside line he was trying to take into the second chicane.
07:08The two cars come together.
07:10They're almost left stricken in the middle of the road for a moment.
07:13As Isaac Hadja moves past them.
07:16But that was unfortunate.
07:18And for the second race running, it's Carlos Sainz getting involved.
07:21On board with Lewis Hamilton.
07:23Lance Stroll, the car in front of him.
07:25Stroll hasn't pitted yet.
07:26Neither is Ocon currently in seventh.
07:28Neither is Albon, who's running in fourth.
07:31Neither are the top two.
07:32And Hamilton makes that progression very nicely indeed.
07:36And he's up into eighth place.
07:38He's got some overtaking done today.
07:40He has Lewis Hamilton after starting tenth.
07:42And here's Gabriel Bortoleto, who had a little look at Pierre Gasly on the previous lap.
07:47And second time round makes it stick.
07:49All right, you get to have a look at this one again.
07:51It's been noted by race control.
07:53Sainz is ahead.
07:54And then he gets tagged by Behrmann.
07:58It's his corner.
07:59It was his corner.
08:03But he didn't leave racing rim on the inside.
08:05I think that I'm going to put that down as a racing incident.
08:08He just turned across in front of me like I wasn't there.
08:10That's a fair comment.
08:14Yeah, which is Oli Behrmann's assessment of the situation.
08:17And he does.
08:18He turns into the corner.
08:20But Behrmann has nowhere to go.
08:23Sainz, it looked like he was far enough ahead to claim that the corner's his.
08:27And they've got the same donkeys behind them.
08:29We will box this lap onto the soft tyre and I'll come up one.
08:33You do want to box the other car first?
08:35Yeah, we'll do that.
08:36We'll swap it around so stay out.
08:37Well, only if he doesn't have the car, otherwise I'll box first.
08:41There will be no undercut.
08:43And Lando Norris does then carry on on his way as Oscar Piastri comes into the pits
08:50for what we're assuming is going to be a set of soft compound tyres
08:52and see if they can, well, give the McLaren cars a bit more pace
08:57in these closing stages that they haven't had in their battle with Max Verstappen so far.
09:02So I can only assume Lando thinks, but pit the other one first
09:05as long as they're not going to get in front of me.
09:07Look at that stop, 1.9 seconds with Sainz.
09:10Yeah.
09:11So the stewards didn't think it was a racing incident.
09:13They did think it was Carlos Sainz's corner.
09:16What's going on here?
09:17And what is going on here?
09:18Lando Norris seems to be stationary.
09:21Well, he was.
09:21Like four more seconds than Oscar Piastri.
09:24Oh, that's going to be difficult.
09:25Well, that's going to be very difficult.
09:27If Oscar Piastri, by the time he gets to the pit lane exit.
09:31You're boxing the cars this way around to ensure you cover Leclerc.
09:34You are free with Lando once he's ahead of the pit exit.
09:38Yeah, but he's not ahead at the pit exit.
09:40Look at that.
09:41Oscar Piastri is ahead of Lando Norris, who was stationary for four more seconds in the pit stop.
09:47But how did McLaren now swap this one around?
09:51And we're about to see that.
09:54Might have gone a little bit long.
09:58Yeah, it wasn't tightened up properly.
10:00That was the confusion until the mechanic was told,
10:03no, come on, you've got to go and get that tightened a bit more.
10:07Oh, dear.
10:07That must have felt like 40 seconds for Lando Norris on this lap.
10:15This is a bit like Hungary last year.
10:17We pitted in this order for team reasons.
10:19Please let Lando pass and you're free to race.
10:22I mean, we said that a slope hit stop was part of racing.
10:28So I don't really get what's changed here.
10:31But we really want to do it.
10:33Fair play.
10:36Oscar Piastri on that one.
10:37He said his piece, he made his point, and he did what the team asked him to do.
10:41Yeah, I think that's, honestly, I think that's fair.
10:44You know, Lando played the team game, didn't get the 1.9 second stop, but now they're free to race.
10:52Yeah.
10:52Fiona May is waiting to wave the checkered flag for Max Verstappen,
10:56whose podium at Zandvoort ended a streak of four races without one.
11:00It was his longest since 2018.
11:03He's come to Monza.
11:04He has smashed the track record in qualifying with the fastest lap in F1 history, and he's gone on to win the Italian Grand Prix.
11:11How about that for a weekend for Max Verstappen, our winner here at Monza this afternoon.
11:18And he's won it in a different postcode to the rest.
11:22Oscar Piastri going through the parabolica, chasing his teammate.
11:26But it's Lando Norris who finishes second to Max Verstappen.
11:30Once again in 2025, when Max wins, Lando Norris comes second, Oscar Piastri third, Charles Leclerc fourth for Ferrari.
11:39George Russell will come home to finish fifth ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who recovered, starting tenth on the grid to take sixth place.
11:47It's another fine finish for Alex Albon, who makes seventh.
11:51Oh, mate, that's the, uh, that's the Italian double.
11:56Fantastico, well done, mate.
11:58Yes!
12:00That was unbelievable, guys.
12:02Insane.
12:04Well done, everyone, well done.
12:06You executed that really, really well.
12:09What an unbelievable weekend.
12:10We can be really, really proud of that.
12:12Well done, everyone.
12:13You know, you, you, you, you, you, you.
