00:00Max Verstappen into turn three.
00:03Oh, and you see how he's gone for that inside line
00:05that he always tends to use here.
00:07I don't think he's too happy as well
00:08with the car in front of him there.
00:10Probably passing blame on him,
00:12but I think that the car was a bit a sarcastic thumbs up,
00:16I think he's given that driver, funnily enough.
00:18The pressure that was on you,
00:19and then, as you say, the line light as well,
00:22and it'll probably be the same on results day,
00:24and we definitely didn't want that
00:25when we were waiting for results.
00:26So, you know, good luck to him.
00:28It's been great that he's been able to finish his exams through school.
00:30Loads of flow of his paint on the rear end of the floor there, Bernie,
00:33on the red ball just there, see?
00:36They have repainted these lines
00:39to make it even harder for the drivers
00:41to overrun the white line
00:43before they kiss a bit of the gravel,
00:45like we saw even last year.
00:46I think Piastri in turn six,
00:48they deleted one of his laps, I think, in qualifying.
00:51A very experienced hand at Red Bull,
00:53but, yeah, a change on Max Verstappen's team this weekend.
00:55Yeah, he's very experienced, as I say, Ted.
00:57We're just watching a replay of Max
00:58actually locking up into turn one,
01:01just venturing too far,
01:03actually, over that serrated curb.
01:04The hand goes up in a bit of frustration.
01:07Here's his radio.
01:07I still, like, turned a lot.
01:10I didn't have a lot of direction in the front.
01:13Like, it still doesn't really turn.
01:14It's weird.
01:15Yeah, not happy at this stage with the braking.
01:19He's had one rear lock-up into turn three.
01:21That was a front lock-up into one.
01:22They're about to embark on.
01:23I'm struggling with the front locking.
01:26Copy.
01:27Yeah, we can see something that we can sort for that.
01:30I like this duo.
01:34I like the young, inexperienced rookie of Kimi Antonelli
01:38and then the mighty experienced Bono being there,
01:42seeing it, done it all.
01:44It must be so nice to be able to use all of your experience
01:47and channel it for the good of a rookie in your car,
01:51steering it around.
01:52And it's a fascinating season as Yuki Tsunoda locks up there
01:56in turn three.
01:58The classic lock-up is so easily done.
02:01And that's the elevation change going up to turn three
02:04to catch off guard.
02:05Yeah, we can hear it even.
02:08Yeah, so you're picking your braking point
02:12and then both front wheels lock up.
02:14Just a sign of the front tyres running a bit cool
02:17and the weird cambers you have in this corner as well.
02:21Yeah, the brake is very poor.
02:24Understood, copy.
02:25And he's not doing what he expected.
02:26You shouldn't have both front wheels lock up simultaneously.
02:30Currently down the order
02:32and something similar happening to Esteban Ocon.
02:35It's going...
02:36Elliot Oli Behrman, apologies.
02:38But it's George Russell, currently fastest.
02:48Hamilton Radio.
02:49Is everything okay?
02:49He's going to be short with the gearbox.
02:53Oh, dear.
02:55Not what you want to hear.
02:57And that's a lot slower than what we're going to see
02:59later on in the weekend,
03:00but it's as fast as we're seeing anyone approach
03:03at the moment.
03:04Across his line to go fastest overall,
03:07so they'll need a new graphic.
03:09Team to remain there,
03:11showing his commitment with the team.
03:13As Alex Albon has a little moment
03:15right at the end of the lap
03:17and has to bail out of it.
03:25This is Antonelli,
03:26who I just thought looked a little bit ragged
03:28coming through that final corner,
03:30really pushing the car right to the edge of the curbs
03:33and across the line.
03:35Final corner is okay.
03:36This corner here is Albon-esque, wasn't it?
03:39Using a lot of that curb.
03:40And look how low the floor gets to the ground
03:42as it's heavily touching,
03:45causes maybe a little bit of bouncing porpoise.
03:47Very sort of interesting scene
03:48about how Lando Norris is taking the opportunity,
03:51while Alex Dunn is in his car,
03:53to kind of learn what...
03:55Oh, no, Andrea Stellas just dropped his water bottle.
03:57Oh, dear.
03:58Is Lando going to help him with it?
04:00I was just...
04:01I think you can see this.
04:02Yeah, has he poured it on himself?
04:04Oh, no, he's poured it on the floor
04:05and he's dropped the...
04:06There you go.
04:07Lando's helping him.
04:08So Lando is understanding.
04:10Yellow flag.
04:11Out on the track at the moment,
04:14Fernando Alonso is facing the wrong way round,
04:17much like Ralph Thurman was a few years ago,
04:19but this time, Fernando Alonso manages to spin it back around
04:23and gets going,
04:25but he'll have to do the whole lap round,
04:27and I imagine those tyres won't be feeling too comfortable.
04:31Spin for him.
04:32So he's waiting initially for a gap,
04:35and he's checking the mirror all the way through the corner.
04:37Then he's going to light it up for the final corner,
04:40gets in the right strategy mode,
04:42and cold tyres, yeah.
04:44So he wasn't actually going as fast as I thought,
04:46but still, that would be well over 100 miles an hour.
04:50OK, that was the worst out lap we can do.
04:53Good to do it in everyone.
04:54Take a copy.
04:55Always looking at the bright side.
04:57So that was his first attempt at a lap on those soft tyres.
05:00They were fresh, soft tyres,
05:02so there's a difference in grip.
05:03They've obviously gone too slow on the outlap.
05:05A lot of that looks like it has been waiting for some traffic
05:08to potentially that's ended up pitting in the pitley in there.
05:11He was waiting for traffic to come that never arrived.
05:13Then his tyres are much too cold when he gets to this point,
05:16and he just doesn't have the grip he feels he should have
05:19in the exit of the final corner.
05:21Well, Scott, good to have one limit of the tyre temperature, isn't it?
05:23They've got the lower limit set.
05:24OK, we can't do that.
05:26What's getting out of the corner for Dino Boganovic.
05:30Both Ferraris, well, no, Lewis Hamilton was out there.
05:33He's come back into the pits now after some gearbox.
05:36He asked to stick him with an older version.
05:38Norris going with a newer version.
05:40Not clear, maybe Ted has the answer what version they're both running this weekend.
05:44That's why you can see all that beautiful flow biz.
05:46All on that front suspension, the front right of Piastri's car there.
05:50They're seeing if there's any issues with the flow quality
05:54over all of those suspension members.
05:56Well, with that lap, Oscar Piastri with the soft tyre
06:00put himself up into second place.
06:02A tenth away from George Russell in the Mercedes
06:06with those soft tyres currently fastest.
06:0920 minutes just over that to go.
06:11Yellow flag out on track.
06:13And it's for Esteban Ocon, who's found the runoff
06:15at turn one, finds reverse.
06:20And is able to get it back into drive
06:22and make his way back onto the circuit.
06:25I wonder if he's just snatched a brake there and run deep.
06:29But George Russell, currently quickest of the 20 drivers out there.
06:36Esteban Ocon, just a few seconds ago,
06:39coming uphill towards turn one.
06:41Front left brake locking up, gets out of it.
06:44And lucky for him, there's a nice bit of runoff.
06:46Oh, it's bigger than it looked.
06:48Flat spot front left, I think.
06:50He knew he was carrying too much speed
06:54to commit to the corner, so that's why he ran on
06:56and then didn't really fancy spin-turning the car.
07:01So he's got the gravel trap in front of him.
07:04Spraining.
07:053, 4, 3, light.
07:08We do not expect more than light drops, Oscar.
07:10We don't expect anything more than light drops.
07:13Well, there you go.
07:14That's what the McLaren radar is suggesting.
07:17No more than light drops.
07:18Oh, man, this traffic.
07:20Yeah, it's a short track, so gaps are small.
07:25It's Fernando Alonso.
07:27As a little moment, he won't be happy about that.
07:29Coming through turn one,
07:30balked slightly by the Alpine.
07:33I think that's Gasly.
07:35Yeah, he's right up behind him.
07:36He's in the dirt, yeah.
07:37So he gets by into turn three, does he?
07:40Yes, he does.
07:41And Bernie is actually going to be chatting to Alex Dunn.
07:44I think it's tomorrow, isn't it?
07:45Tomorrow, yeah.
07:46To hear all about his first session as his teammate for FP1, Piastri, with a rather hairy moment.
07:55Yeah, it's actually Piastri showing that if you push a bit too hard through that turn,
07:58that's why it's such a difficult corner.
08:00And that's why when we rode on board with Don, I had to double-check which driver we were riding on board with.
08:05I want to say a massive thank you.
08:08A little boy's tree came through.
08:09This is definitely the best day of my life, so thank you, everyone, for letting me do this.
08:13And thanks, Lando, for trusting me with this car.
08:15You're very welcome.
08:17Good job as well.
08:17That was quite a busy session.
08:19Thank you, everyone.
08:20It means a lot.
08:21You didn't want to do the hike with me and Karun yesterday, did you?
08:23No.
08:24Just going to enter a morning run instead, Harry.
08:26You weren't there.
08:27You've got to be quick in this game.
08:30And quickest overall was George Russell there.
08:32Oh, nicely done, Anne Davidson.
08:35George Russell fastest at the end of FP1.
08:37Max Verstappen second.
08:39Oscar Piastri in third.
08:42Alex Dunn with a really good FP1.
08:44His first outing with McLaren in an official session in fourth.
08:48Gasly up there as well in the top five.
08:50Gabriel Bortoleto going well in the south up inside the top six.
08:54Both Williams there as well with Lewis Hamilton doing a lot of running in that session with
08:59the aero rake, but was confined to the pit lane for a while with some gearbox issues that
09:03were fixed inside the top ten.
09:05Rounded out by Isaac Hadjar.
09:07Kimi Antonelli, 11th, ahead of Hulkenberg.
09:09Stroll and Alonso, who found himself facing backwards at one point in 14th, head of Lawson.
09:13Colopinto, 16th.
09:15Tsunoda in 17th with Dino Beganovic in 18th, having replaced Charles Leclerc for this session.
09:21Hand back to him, Esteban Ocon and his Haas teammate, Oli Behrman, down in 19th and 20th.
09:30But that is FP1 done and dusted.
09:32We'll have a little break before we go to FP2, but it's advantage, George Russell.
