00:03:14Welcome to a rare late-night edition of Showtime Championship Boxing.
00:03:28Our location tonight, Miami, Florida.
00:03:32A typical hot, humid August night here in the Sunshine State,
00:03:35and things could get even hotter real soon with the start of tonight's fight.
00:03:41Our venue on this night, Miccosukee Indian Gaming.
00:03:44A resort and convention center located about 30 minutes from downtown Miami.
00:03:49In fact, we're not far from the Florida Everglades.
00:03:52People flopped from all over to Miccosukee for gaming and entertainment.
00:03:55This evening, the focus of attention, a highly anticipated showdown for the Bacon WBC
00:04:00Super Lightweight Championship featuring interim champ Kostya Zoo
00:04:04and number one contender Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:04:08And we bring you inside to the Sports and Entertainment Center on the grounds of Miccosukee.
00:04:13The fans settling in anxiously, awaiting this evening's contest between two former world champions
00:04:19looking to climb back on top.
00:04:21Kostya Zoo and Miguel Angel Gonzalez, both action fighters and both hungry for that championship belt.
00:04:28And here, the former WBC lightweight champion and current number one super lightweight contender,
00:04:37Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:04:37His arrival earlier, an impressive 11-1-1 in world title fights.
00:04:42Only one loss in 45 fights overall with 33 knockouts.
00:04:45And that lone defeat, a unanimous decision to Oscar de la Hoya in 1997.
00:04:50Despite the loss, he acquitted himself well, as he did, versus his boyhood idol, fellow Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez,
00:04:57but settled for the draw.
00:04:58Very proud man.
00:05:00Outstanding lightweight champ.
00:05:01Made 10 defenses through three years.
00:05:03Vacated to move up tonight.
00:05:05He goes for his second world title, but he's been inactive 405 days, the longest layoff of his illustrious career.
00:05:14The man standing in his way.
00:05:16Interim WBC super lightweight champ.
00:05:18Former IBF junior welterweight champ, Konstantin Kostya Zoo.
00:05:23His arrival earlier.
00:05:24Interesting story.
00:05:25A highly decorated amateur champ in his native Russia.
00:05:29Emigrated to Sydney, Australia with his wife, two sons, mom, dad, sister.
00:05:33Became an Australian citizen.
00:05:35Speaks fluent English with a hint of an Aussie accent as a fighter.
00:05:39Just one loss in 24 bouts, 18 knockouts.
00:05:42This is a ruthless warrior.
00:05:43Attacks from the opening bell.
00:05:45And given his opponent's credentials, this one has all the elements of an intense competitive fight.
00:05:50The focus falls on a title that's been vacant for a little over two years.
00:05:59One of the longest title vacancies in recent memory.
00:06:02This after the WBC super lightweight felt was firmly around the waist of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez for nearly seven years on and off.
00:06:11Frankie Randall borrowed it for a short while in 1994 before returning it.
00:06:15But two years later, Oscar de la Hoya won it from Chavez, then vacated the title when he moved up to 147.
00:06:20In March of 98, before 50,000 plus in Mexico City, Chavez bought fellow countryman Miguel Angel Gonzalez to a grueling 12-round draw, and the title remained vacant.
00:06:30Here we are in 1999, and yes, it's still up for grabs.
00:06:34Costas who beat Rafael Ruelas in an elimination bout and then beat Diabolus Hurtado for the interim title and the right to meet number one contender Miguel Angel Gonzalez for the championship.
00:06:44Injuries to Zou and Gonzalez, contractual problems, they all delayed their showdown, which will finally happen tonight.
00:06:51Now, should a WBC super lightweight champion be crowned tonight, he would then join the ranks of WBA title holder, Shambay Mitchell, IVF champ Teron Millett, and WBO champion Randall Bailey, who recently upset Carlos Gonzalez here in Miami.
00:07:05Also, there's hot prospect Zab Judah waiting in the wings, so this is a division that's potentially very competitive.
00:07:11However, it's a weight class overshadowed by the marquee names just above, like Oscar de la Hoya and Felix Trinidad.
00:07:17Nevertheless, seems a waste that the WBC title has been barren for so long.
00:07:22It's not the fighters' skills, the politics of boxing.
00:07:25A round-robin tournament would certainly create more interest at 140 pounds.
00:07:29With that, let me bring on my ringside partners.
00:07:32First, the fight doctor Ferdi Pacheco.
00:07:34Gonzalez, his third try at a super lightweight championship.
00:07:38Will number three be the charm?
00:07:40It could be.
00:07:41It's certainly the most difficult I think he's faced.
00:07:45He has got the talent to do it, he's got the willpower to do it, and he's got the reputation to do it.
00:07:50Now, can he carry it out against this extremely tough man?
00:07:53We will see tonight.
00:07:54I think it's going to be one of the best fights of this year.
00:07:57All right, let's turn to our other partner, Bobby Chez.
00:07:59If Kostya Zou wins, how does he compare with the other super lightweight champions?
00:08:03Steve, I think he matched up very well with all the other super lightweight champions.
00:08:06Charmaine Mitchell, a great fighter.
00:08:07Teron Millette, Randall Bailey, on any given day at the championship level,
00:08:11you could have a war with any one of those grouped together.
00:08:13But you know what?
00:08:14Charmaine Mitchell fight with Kostya Zou would be like a throwback to the old days with Leonard Hearns,
00:08:18and that type of trilogy might ensue.
00:08:20That's what I'd love to see.
00:08:21Well, they haven't even thrown a punch yet.
00:08:23The people are already saying it's the fight of the year.
00:08:25That remains to be seen.
00:08:27As usual for you Showtime subscribers with internet access,
00:08:30we once again invite you to judge every round of every fight online.

00:08:53viewing our East Coast live feed.
00:08:56Of course, your voting is for entertainment purposes only and will not influence the outcome of the fight.
00:09:00Once again, the web address, show.com.
00:09:03That's S-H-O dot com.
00:09:07All right, we're closing in.
00:09:08Costia Zoo, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, vacant WBC super lightweight title.
00:09:12Only two losses in 69 fights between them.
00:09:15Well, if you've ever seen Costia Zoo fight, you might be wondering why anyone in his right mind would want to get in the same ring with the guy.
00:09:24He usually charges out fast, looks for the early KO, has an awkward swarming style, doesn't mind getting hit, and has one-punch knockout power.
00:09:33Knowing that, it may tell you a little something about his opponent, Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:09:36Fearless, we can probably sum him up in one word, fearless.
00:09:40Both men viewed tonight's fight as somewhat of a reckoning.
00:09:51Yeah, I've got great power in both hands.
00:09:56I did not care for people from any hand.
00:10:00Left-wise, it doesn't matter.
00:10:02I cannot handle anybody.
00:10:03I consider myself a fighter who can really exchange punches.
00:10:14I think I'm ready.
00:10:18I think I have the power to end this fight before the end of the 12th round.
00:10:25I want to control.
00:10:26The control, it doesn't matter if you follow him or he comes to you.
00:10:30You have to control the fight.
00:10:32This is the important thing.
00:10:34Well, hopefully, I'll not give him the opportunity to control the fight ever.
00:10:39I'll keep the initiative going, and I'll keep him busy, at least with the jab.
00:10:44He can try anything he wants.
00:10:46He can do anything he wants.
00:10:47But the main thing for me comes to the ring and dictate what I want, not what he wants.
00:10:53Well, I will try to fight the fight that best suits my style.
00:10:58And after this fight, I'd like to return to the list of all the world champions that are from Mexico.
00:11:04I'm sure I'm going to win, but I'm not only have to win, I have to win impressively.
00:11:11I'm sure I'm going to win.
00:11:11I'll be right back.
00:11:12I'll be right back.
00:11:12I'll be right back.
00:11:13I'll be right back.
00:11:13I'll be right back.
00:11:17Back ringside with the fight, Dr. Ferdi Pacheco.
00:11:20This is the longest period of inactivity for Miguel Ángel González, 14 months or 405 days to be exact.
00:11:26How will that impact on his performance?
00:11:28I don't think anything at all.
00:11:29He has been in training all during that time.
00:11:31It wasn't because of different kinds of injuries that knocked him out.
00:11:34These were all just legal proceedings, and he stayed in the gym ready to fight at all times.
00:11:39I don't think that's a factor at all in this fight.
00:11:42How about a quick prediction?
00:11:43I like González because of reputation and because of his overwhelming experience and his pride, but it's very close, very close.
00:11:52All right, Bobby, this is a case of a power puncher versus a skilled seasoned boxer.
00:11:57Who's got the edge?
00:11:58Well, you know, power sometimes is not that good if you're not using it.
00:12:02Whoever's effective with this strategy is going to have the edge.
00:12:04If the power punchers are damaging and taking its toll on the boxer, the boxer's not going to survive.
00:12:09At the same time, if the boxer takes the puncher deep, tires him out, puts the rounds in the bank,
00:12:13and stays in the front, he's got the lead.
00:12:15In general, it's not a big difference, but I like the power puncher only because with that big knockout power,
00:12:20he can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
00:12:22How about your keys to victory for both fighters tonight?
00:12:25All right, Steve, we'll start with Kostya Zou.
00:12:26Kostya Zou has got to go to the body of the hard puncher, slow down the taller man, get him to stay still.
00:12:31Counterpunch very well because González does miss and land his straight right hand.
00:12:35That's his signature punch.
00:12:37Here we see him against Calvin Grove.
00:12:38Simple, but it's classic.
00:12:40He likes to use the jab as a feeler.
00:12:41He sets it out there.
00:12:42He measures the range, and he lays a right hand on Calvin Grove, and that is the end of Calvin Grove.
00:12:52His opponent, González, must come forward.
00:12:54He cannot let Kostya Zou come forward and set the pace.
00:12:56He has to do that.
00:12:57Also, he's got to tighten up his defense for that big puncher on the inside,
00:13:00and he has a tremendous left hook to the body and overhand right.
00:13:03Here against Sobrenas, on the left, he throws a double jab, kind of hesitates in between each one,
00:13:08setting his man up, looking for the timing.
00:13:10You watch it.
00:13:10It's a slow jab, more of a rangefinder, hesitates, throws another one, hesitates again.
00:13:17Yet here comes that right hand, and now Sobrenas, his night is over.
00:13:20Well, the doctor liked González.
00:13:23Who do you like?
00:13:24I think this fight heats up real early.
00:13:25I think Kostya Zou, though, has too much pressure and speed, and I like him in the long haul.
00:13:29All right.
00:13:30We'll see what happens.
00:13:31Now, even though both Zou and González are only in their 20s,
00:13:35these are two experienced veterans who have 20 world championship fights between them.
00:13:39Of those 20, only two are losses.
00:13:42The heavy-handed Zou always looks to put on a good show.
00:13:44González, the will of a champion.
00:13:46Zou more of a headhunter, while González likes the body attack.
00:13:49One thing's for sure, they both know only one direction, straight ahead.
00:13:54This one has all the ingredients of a war.
00:14:01Here is Miguel Ángel González, turned pro at 18, won the belt at 21.
00:14:09By 24, was thought to have the potential to be in the best power-for-pound category
00:14:14that he might even push Julio César Chávez aside as Mexico's newest hero.
00:14:21González often fights to the level of his opponent.
00:14:24He looked good, although he lost to Oscar de la Hoya.
00:14:28Did not look good against a lesser fighter named Lamar Murphy.
00:14:31We'll see if that factors in.
00:14:32Kurdi, there's a significant loss factor here.
00:14:35A lot at stake should González lose.
00:14:37He's had the contractual problems in the past.
00:14:40He really wants Chávez again.
00:14:41Where does a guy like this stand if he loses tonight?
00:14:44Well, he's got such a huge reputation,
00:14:46and losing to a guy like this guy is no disgrace,
00:14:48but it would set him back a great deal with his Chávez plans.
00:14:52I don't think he's thinking of losing.
00:14:54And this guy says, I'm going to come, I'm going to establish my presence,
00:14:58and then he's going to find out it's all over.
00:15:01And he's got his supporters from Mexico here tonight in Miami.
00:15:05And the man he'll be facing, the interim champion, Kostya Zou.
00:15:15Here he comes.
00:15:17You see his experience in world title bouts.
00:15:20Bobby Zou is a very fast starter, as we have talked about.
00:15:24His typical M.O., go for the early knockout.
00:15:27But against a savvy pro like González, will that strategy fly?
00:15:31Well, you know, the strategy could fly if he's effective with his power shots
00:15:34as well as his counterpunch.
00:15:35But remember something.
00:15:36González can punch a little bit, too.
00:15:38So for Kostya Zou to throw caution to the wind as often as he does,
00:15:41his chin has to be up to the task,
00:15:42and that will make the difference
00:15:43of whether or not this type of style can fly tonight.
00:15:46And because of his hit-or-be-hit mentality,
00:15:50he's not afraid to stick his nose in.
00:15:53Will he be even more vulnerable to González's sharp counterpunching?
00:15:57Once again, Steve, that's going to lend toward the chin.
00:15:59When you have an offensive mind, as he does,
00:16:01he's thinking forward.
00:16:02He's thinking damage, destruction.
00:16:03He's thinking about what he's going to do.
00:16:05Sometimes he inadvertently just doesn't think about his defense at all,
00:16:08and he gets hit with shots he shouldn't be getting hit with.
00:16:11If his chin's not there, he becomes very vulnerable.
00:16:13If the chin's solid, he's still got to do what he's got to do.
00:16:15Makes a nice leap over the top rope into the ring.
00:16:20González's trainer, Abel Sanchez,
00:16:22feels that Zou's power is overrated.
00:16:25Johnny Lewis, the trainer for Zou,
00:16:27says Zou's punches as hard as a junior middleweight.
00:16:32Well, I guess after the fight,
00:16:33González will be able to tell us.
00:16:35You know what?
00:16:35He'll be the judge.
00:16:36Ludo Orban.
00:16:37Indeed.
00:16:38All right.
00:16:40Let's size him up as we check out the tail of the tape.
00:16:44They are only a year apart in age.
00:16:47A two-inch height advantage.
00:16:49González, both right at the 140 weight limit,
00:16:51and the reach is even.
00:16:54And the key unified rules for this world championship fight.
00:16:57There's no standing eight count,
00:16:59no three knockdown rule.
00:17:00A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
00:17:03An accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth round.
00:17:06It is ruled a technical draw.
00:17:08If it happens after the end of round four,
00:17:10they go to the scorecard.
00:17:11So here at Miccosukee Indian Gaming,

00:21:30Our trunks are both right about the belt line,
00:21:33so blow here is fair.
00:21:35Blow here above is fair.
00:21:36All right.
00:21:37All right.
00:21:38In case we knock down,
00:21:40the man standing,
00:21:41we'll go to the neutral corner,
00:21:42stay there until I call him out.
00:21:44Gentlemen, do we have any questions?
00:21:46All right.
00:21:47Let's keep our blows above the belt.
00:21:52Kostya Zou,
00:21:53a no-nonsense starter,
00:21:54six of his 18 knockouts in the first round.
00:21:57His opponent,
00:22:01Miguel Ángel González,
00:22:02not a particularly fast starter,
00:22:04but always presses forward.
00:22:06He's intelligent,
00:22:07has great heart,
00:22:09tremendous durability.
00:22:11This could really be a wild first round.
00:22:13Zou always looking to establish control early,
00:22:16while González,
00:22:18getting in his last-minute prayers,
00:22:20hopes to take the fight deep
00:22:21and wear Zou down.
00:22:24This fight has had many twists and turns.
00:22:27It's been embroiled in contract disputes,
00:22:28ending in a court order
00:22:29for a co-promotion of this event.
00:22:32As a result,
00:22:32America Presents has requested
00:22:34not to be associated with the promotion.
00:22:36Once again,
00:22:37a classic example
00:22:38of the business of boxing
00:22:39hurting the sport of boxing.
00:22:41Round one,
00:22:42scheduled for 12,
00:22:43both in the black trunks.
00:22:45Two on the left of his screen,
00:22:46González to the right.
00:22:48González got off a low blow,
00:22:49right?
00:22:49His first punch was a low blow.
00:22:51Stop! Stop! Stop!
00:22:52Rokal Catholics right here at the outset.
00:22:55Remember,
00:22:56González has said,
00:22:57I want to establish my presence.
00:22:59Presence.
00:23:00He's going to know
00:23:00that he's in with the champion.
00:23:02So this is what
00:23:02these first two rounds will be.
00:23:04One of the things I love most about Zou
00:23:05is he will test your heart
00:23:07and your chin immediately.
00:23:08He'll find out
00:23:09if you want to fight.
00:23:10If you don't get your pound of flesh,
00:23:11he'll give you no respect.
00:23:13Right off the bat,
00:23:14you can see both fighters
00:23:15are wearing black,
00:23:16which I think is some kind of a crime
00:23:18we never seem to fix in boxing,
00:23:21but you can certainly tell who's who
00:23:22because of the writing.
00:23:24And also,
00:23:25González wearing the white shoes
00:23:27and chilling the blood.
00:23:29They both even have gold lettering with it, too.
00:23:31Yeah.
00:23:32I don't see why they can't be legislative,
00:23:33but let's not ruin a good fight.
00:23:34We're just talking about that.
00:23:35Let's get into the fight.
00:23:36Oh, cut from the left eye
00:23:40of Miguel Angel Gonzalez
00:23:41a minute into the fight.
00:23:43He's got blood already.
00:23:44He's got a cut right there on the...
00:23:47Oh, I can't see it quite.
00:23:49You'll see whether it's along the ridge
00:23:50or cutting it diagonally.
00:23:52It looks like it's right along the eyebrow.
00:23:54It was a headbutt.
00:23:55They came in and banged heads.
00:23:58Oh, this would be ruined.
00:24:00This would be awful.
00:24:01This is a factor in this fight.
00:24:02And the head's coming together again.
00:24:08Miguel Angel Gonzalez
00:24:09butted Cazzo blatantly on purpose
00:24:11thinking that the one he got butted
00:24:14earlier was intentional, I guess.
00:24:16Yeah, and Sue didn't...
00:24:18went right back at him.
00:24:19Boy, he's tough.
00:24:20Sue's tough.
00:24:21Sue's doing a little too much
00:24:22headhunting right here, though.
00:24:23Yeah.
00:24:24I think what he needs to do
00:24:25is fire that right hand into the body,
00:24:26work that body,
00:24:27and break Miguel down,
00:24:29not jump to the head with everything.
00:24:30Yeah, that's 20 fights
00:24:31instead of 40.
00:24:33That's the inexperience right now.
00:24:35He's got to settle down.
00:24:37He's got to settle down.
00:24:39And Sue looking to end this thing
00:24:42on one punch.
00:24:42He is just winging
00:24:43and mostly missing.
00:24:48Gonzalez going to the body
00:24:50in much more deliberate fashion.
00:24:52And that's a nasty-looking eye right now.
00:24:54I don't know if we'll have to see it up close.
00:24:56Another warning for low blow.
00:24:58Nice hook-off to jab by Sue.
00:25:00Now, Gonzalez going upstairs
00:25:03and landing with double left hooks
00:25:05to the head of Sue.
00:25:06Remember, while we talk about the power of Sue,
00:25:09also, the champion, Gonzalez,
00:25:10has a great deal of power.
00:25:12He just knocks people right out.
00:25:16Trying not to be phased by that cut
00:25:19is Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:25:21No, but it's in the first round,
00:25:25and that is a factor.
00:25:26You've got 11 rounds to go.
00:25:28That's not good.
00:25:29Dirty roughhouse tactics
00:25:31right at the beginning of the fight.
00:25:34Wow, tough rounds.
00:25:35Tough rounds.
00:25:35He said it's on top of the eye.
00:25:53Don't worry about it.
00:25:54It's on top of the eye.
00:25:55Don't worry about it.
00:26:00Box him, box him.
00:26:01Don't lose your head.
00:26:03Box him.
00:26:04This is the first headbutt.
00:26:05It was accidental.
00:26:05Kostya's zoo was just...
00:26:06Oh, this is the intentional one.
00:26:07I'm sorry.
00:26:09Here you see,
00:26:10and Miguel Angel just kind of...
00:26:11There you go.
00:26:13Just duck his head down.
00:26:14First hit him a little shoulder up,
00:26:16then duck his head down.
00:26:17I'm sorry.
00:26:17That jammed him with it a little bit.
00:26:19And the accidental one was previous to this.
00:26:22This was just zoo coming in right there.
00:26:25Oh.
00:26:25Just coming in,
00:26:27trying to keep his head down,
00:26:28and Miguel Angel slamming his face in.
00:26:31So Gonzalez,
00:26:32the guy who pays the price
00:26:34for his own purpose,
00:26:39full headbutt.
00:26:40Gonzalez has fought the more organized fight.
00:26:43The more...
00:26:44Again, again with the shoulder.
00:26:46Well, these two guys are going to go
00:26:47at it.
00:26:47I mean, there's nothing
00:26:48they're going to believe.
00:26:54Very close round, though.
00:26:56Very close.
00:27:01Well, we said the first round
00:27:02would be wild,
00:27:03and it lives up to that.
00:27:04Wilde swing and a miss
00:27:05with the right hand by Zou.
00:27:07Zou is doing a lot of missing.
00:27:09Right now,
00:27:09Zou is missing a lot
00:27:10with that right hand,
00:27:11and that would prove
00:27:11surely fatiguing.
00:27:12The big bombers get tired
00:27:14when they miss
00:27:14because it takes more energy
00:27:15to throw a punch,
00:27:16and then stop it on your own
00:27:17rather than it hit something.
00:27:19Well, Bobby,
00:27:19this guy's got to settle down
00:27:20something.
00:27:20He's a little bit too sky high right now.
00:27:22He's got to get back into being Zou,
00:27:24being his attack mode.
00:27:27He's waiting for the other guy
00:27:28to get his first shot off.
00:27:30That's not good
00:27:30when you've got a guy
00:27:31who can fire like Gonzalez.
00:27:32Whoa.
00:27:33Stop!
00:27:34Stop!
00:27:34This is going to be ugly
00:27:35on the inside, fellas.
00:27:37They come close together.
00:27:39Sparks fly.
00:27:40Gonzalez,
00:27:41rabbit punching,
00:27:42also holding and hitting,
00:27:43getting cautioned
00:27:44by Frank Santori.
00:27:45Oh!
00:27:46Combination
00:27:46to the head
00:27:47by Kostya Zou.
00:27:50Kostya Zou went to jab,
00:27:51and then threw a hook off the jab,
00:27:52and stepped in
00:27:53with a beautiful right hand.
00:27:54Now he's hesitated
00:27:55a little too long, though.
00:27:56Yeah,
00:27:57Gonzalez took that very well
00:27:58for being that big a shot.
00:27:59I mean,
00:28:00that should have really stung.
00:28:02That was big.
00:28:05Gonzalez has been down
00:28:06three times
00:28:07in his 45 professional fights.
00:28:12But he showed
00:28:13a terrific chin there.
00:28:15Another low blow
00:28:15by Gonzalez.
00:28:17Yeah, Zou
00:28:17indicating it
00:28:18to the referee
00:28:18very calmly.
00:28:20Zou landing
00:28:29with a crisp combination
00:28:30moments ago.
00:28:32Now a minute to go around.
00:28:33There he goes again.
00:28:34They're gonna take
00:28:34a round away from him.
00:28:36They're gonna take it
00:28:36a point if he keeps going.
00:28:38He not only shouldered him,
00:28:39he did him with the head
00:28:40again, too.
00:28:41I mean,
00:28:41this is a flat-out
00:28:42dirty tactics fight.
00:28:44Well,
00:28:44he's sort of mad
00:28:45about that cut,
00:28:46I think.
00:28:47Zou landing.
00:28:48Again.
00:28:52Now,
00:28:53flicking the left jab.
00:28:54Looking to set up
00:28:55the right.
00:28:57Zou looking good
00:28:57right in that little exchange.
00:28:59Zou's also being
00:29:00very accurate
00:29:00with the counter left hook.
00:29:02Landing on the right side
00:29:03of Gonzalez's head and eye.
00:29:07Zou looking very confident
00:29:08now
00:29:09as we approach
00:29:10the final 20 seconds
00:29:11of the second round.
00:29:12Zou is settling down
00:29:13in that groove
00:29:14that we've seen him so often.
00:29:16He was too high,
00:29:16he was too flighty.
00:29:17Now he's getting down
00:29:18into the fighting.
00:29:19He's getting in the trenches
00:29:20now.
00:29:20I still,
00:29:21nice, beautiful jab,
00:29:22right?
00:29:22I still maintain,
00:29:23though,
00:29:23he would throw
00:29:24a double jab up top.
00:29:25Stan Gonzalez
00:29:26up and fired
00:29:26that right-handed
00:29:27solar plexus.
00:29:28He'll be much more
00:29:29effective.
00:29:31Very good round
00:29:32for Costa Zou.
00:29:34Excellent.
00:29:34Excellent.
00:29:35One more.
00:29:44I think a lot of people
00:30:03underestimate Zou's speed,
00:30:05and maybe Gonzalez
00:30:06is doing a little
00:30:07of that here tonight
00:30:07because Zou's stepping in
00:30:09and he's effective.
00:30:10Here he throws the jab,
00:30:11he hooks off the jab,
00:30:12and there's that right hand.
00:30:13That was pretty clean,
00:30:14and that buckled
00:30:15his legs pretty good.
00:30:16That was a very good
00:30:16right hand.
00:30:17There's a little lower
00:30:18angle of the look.
00:30:19Jab, hook off the jab.
00:30:22Now the jab was meant
00:30:22as a range finder.
00:30:24The hook and right hand
00:30:24were meant to land.
00:30:26And now here on the inside,
00:30:27you'll see Miguel
00:30:28Angel Gonzalez.
00:30:29Give him a little shoulder.
00:30:31There's the shoulder,
00:30:31and there's the head.
00:30:32Oh, that's a head.
00:30:33That's a one-two.
00:30:34Oh, that's a head.
00:30:35Obvious, dirty tactics
00:30:37by Miguel Angel Gonzalez,
00:30:38who certainly has been
00:30:39in trouble before
00:30:40in big championship fights,
00:30:42but able to come back.
00:30:43We'll see what happens here.
00:30:44It is round three.
00:30:47Zou coming off
00:30:48a very effective second round.
00:30:51I tell you what,
00:30:52he's throwing
00:30:52a very good right hand.
00:30:53If that continues to land,
00:30:55Gonzalez's not going
00:30:55to take that all night long.
00:30:57And I think Miguel
00:30:58Angel Gonzalez,
00:30:58as well as Abel Sanchez,
00:30:59his trainer,
00:31:00underestimated the speed of Zou.
00:31:02He does have pretty good speed.
00:31:03He's very sneaky
00:31:04with his face.
00:31:04And he has one-punch
00:31:06knockout power.
00:31:10But we'll see
00:31:11if his quickness
00:31:11and speed spells
00:31:12the difference here.
00:31:14Frank Santori's got his work
00:31:16cut out for him tonight.
00:31:17These two guys
00:31:18are going to quit.
00:31:18They're going to be
00:31:19tough all night long.
00:31:30Have you ever seen
00:31:31Gonzalez fight
00:31:32this type of fight before?
00:31:34Well, he's never been in
00:31:35with a guy who's
00:31:36attacked him like this before.
00:31:37Although he's trying
00:31:37to put some order in it.
00:31:38He's trying to get
00:31:39into that Chavez
00:31:40over and under
00:31:41to the side
00:31:42and the side of the head.
00:31:43He hasn't succeeded,
00:31:44but he's tried it
00:31:45several times.
00:31:46I'll tell you what,
00:31:47he's showing me
00:31:48a little bit different look.
00:31:50Even Chavez
00:31:51couldn't put this kind
00:31:51of pressure on him
00:31:52because it's effective.
00:31:53I don't know anyone
00:31:54that's attacked him
00:31:54this way.
00:31:55He's just affected.
00:31:56It almost seems like
00:31:57a little bit of an air
00:31:58of desperation already
00:31:59by Gonzalez.
00:32:00And I think he's
00:32:01a little out of his game.
00:32:04Gonzalez, though,
00:32:04not looping his punches
00:32:06as much as we've seen before.
00:32:07Zoo, of course,
00:32:08throws darts.
00:32:09But a lot straighter
00:32:11by Gonzalez.
00:32:15Gonzalez holding his own
00:32:16this round.
00:32:16He's not going to look
00:32:18for him to fold.
00:32:19I mean, he's going to be
00:32:20coming back and forth.
00:32:21The ebb and flow
00:32:22of this fight's going
00:32:22to be tough.
00:32:23He feels it's going
00:32:24to be a long one
00:32:25and that the longer
00:32:26it goes,
00:32:27he has the advantage.
00:32:28It's possible.
00:32:30Zoo's trainer should
00:32:31take a look at this tape
00:32:32right now,
00:32:32this first few rounds
00:32:34and notice that
00:32:35underneath,
00:32:36I really believe,
00:32:37there's a big opening
00:32:38to Acosta Zoo.
00:32:40When he used that
00:32:40feeler jab,
00:32:41double, triple up top,
00:32:42the firing straight right
00:32:43to the belly of Gonzalez
00:32:44or a fighter of that structure.
00:32:46And he's just not
00:32:47going to the body.
00:32:47but he's headhunting
00:32:48quite a bit.
00:32:49Yeah.
00:32:51He's looking for that
00:32:52right hand to do
00:32:52that big damage.
00:32:54He landed it once,
00:32:55but you can't do that
00:32:56once every three rounds.
00:33:02Gonzalez putting in
00:33:03a sustained methodical
00:33:05attack.
00:33:06And regrouping
00:33:06after that vicious
00:33:07left-right combination.
00:33:13One thing is
00:33:14something else that
00:33:15a little footnote
00:33:17for people to watch.
00:33:18Gonzalez is not able
00:33:19to move forward
00:33:20too effectively right now.
00:33:21His punches
00:33:22lessen in power
00:33:23when he's going backwards
00:33:24and throwing punches forward.
00:33:26Costa Zoo, on the other hand,
00:33:27consistently coming forward.
00:33:28The power still
00:33:29with his punches.
00:33:30the power still
00:33:31to the other hand.
00:33:31Well, Costa Zoo certainly
00:33:36has many fans and supporters
00:33:38on hand here tonight.
00:33:40Coming a long way.
00:33:40There's his dad,
00:33:42young Boris Zoo,
00:33:43relocating to Sydney,
00:33:46Australia,
00:33:47along with Costa's mom,
00:33:49his wife, Natasha,
00:33:50to Suns.
00:33:58Makes this radio all the time.
00:33:59Sorry.
00:34:00Makes this radio all the time now.
00:34:02I'm back on the deck.
00:34:03Yeah.
00:34:07He's got to hit and put the
00:34:08ice bag on his back
00:34:09from the next round,
00:34:09the next round.
00:34:11He's happy to bash him.
00:34:12All right.
00:34:25This is the fourth round
00:34:26coming up now.
00:34:27Remember our plan,
00:34:29apparently a plan to go to four
00:34:30and then do something else,
00:34:32which they spoke of.
00:34:33You know,
00:34:34if he gets to four,
00:34:35then it's a different fight.
00:34:36We'll see what he's got in mind.
00:34:37Some years ago,
00:34:38we saw Khalid Rahealou's trainer
00:34:39do the same thing
00:34:40in upsetting Frankie Randall.
00:34:41We have to get past
00:34:42the fifth round
00:34:42and then turn it on.
00:34:43The cut holding up
00:34:44pretty well there
00:34:46on Gonzalez.
00:34:47Abel Sanchez
00:34:47doing a good job.
00:34:48Not a fight.
00:34:51Round number four.
00:34:52Don't you think
00:34:52Gonzalez has to show
00:34:54movement,
00:34:54get in and out fast,
00:34:56go to the body,
00:34:56keep his distances
00:34:57against a guy like Zoo?
00:34:59Oh, left shoulder.
00:35:01Another foul tactic
00:35:02by Gonzalez.
00:35:03I said that's
00:35:04a last warning too.
00:35:05Yeah,
00:35:05and this guy threw a punch
00:35:06right while he was
00:35:07taking the other guy away.
00:35:09Gonzalez has been dirty
00:35:10from the opening bell.
00:35:11Well,
00:35:11that was dirty
00:35:12on both sides.
00:35:13That punch that went afterwards
00:35:15was absolutely hitting
00:35:16on the break.
00:35:17Well,
00:35:17if I was Zoo,
00:35:17I'd hit him late too.
00:35:19Yeah,
00:35:19but it's still a foul.
00:35:23Miguel Angel Gonzalez
00:35:25needs to set that jab up.
00:35:26He can't just leave
00:35:27with that loop
00:35:27and roundhouse hook.
00:35:29Costa-Zoo's too fast
00:35:30and he throws
00:35:31his punches straight.
00:35:31Nice jabbing here
00:35:37by Zoo.
00:35:38Stiff arm jab.
00:35:46One thing about Zoo,
00:35:47he throws that left
00:35:47a couple of times.
00:35:48You know that right hand's coming.
00:35:50I mean,
00:35:50that guy wings the right.
00:35:53Only one loss
00:35:54for Zoo.
00:35:56There's a combination
00:35:56to the head by Zoo.
00:35:58Once again,
00:35:59the right seemed
00:35:59to do more damage.
00:36:00More effective
00:36:01at push Gonzalez back.
00:36:03A lone defeat.
00:36:04Tenth round TKO
00:36:06to Vince.
00:36:06Oh,
00:36:07wait,
00:36:07wait,
00:36:07wait.
00:36:07Oh,
00:36:08come on.
00:36:09That was not right.
00:36:11Gonzalez,
00:36:12of course,
00:36:12is only lost
00:36:13at Oscar De La Hoya.
00:36:17That was a nice
00:36:18little slick move.
00:36:19A lead right hand
00:36:20and a left-right.
00:36:21All three connected.
00:36:22Not real strong.
00:36:24But two.
00:36:25Look at that.
00:36:26Again,
00:36:26the same thing.
00:36:28Yeah,
00:36:28this time Zoo
00:36:29hitting after
00:36:30the break.
00:36:32After the break
00:36:32and Gonzalez
00:36:33giving the shoulder.
00:36:34And he's taking
00:36:35a point away
00:36:35from Gonzalez.
00:36:36So Gonzalez
00:36:37did something worse
00:36:38than Zoo,
00:36:38obviously.
00:36:39Yeah.
00:36:41And I'll tell you what,
00:36:43I'll repeat myself.
00:36:44I can't blame Zoo
00:36:44for hitting late
00:36:45because he's getting
00:36:47fouled repeatedly
00:36:47by Gonzalez.
00:36:48And he's just answering
00:36:49back in his own fashion.
00:36:51See,
00:36:52Zoo is a roughhouse
00:36:53type of guy,
00:36:53but all within
00:36:54the scope of the rules.
00:36:55He's a roughhouse guy
00:36:56because he's mean,
00:36:57he's strong,
00:36:58he punches well,
00:36:59and he's usually
00:36:59in great condition.
00:37:00So he's hard
00:37:01to fend off.
00:37:03And sometimes
00:37:03fighters want to try
00:37:04and discourage him
00:37:04from doing
00:37:06what he does.
00:37:21Right eye
00:37:21of Gonzalez
00:37:22starting to swell
00:37:22now from that left hook
00:37:23that Zoo's been
00:37:24landing there so regularly.
00:37:25There's a straight right
00:37:26hand to the head
00:37:27by Zoo.
00:37:33Now Gonzalez
00:37:34resorting to long
00:37:35winging punches
00:37:36that have no impact
00:37:37on Zoo.
00:37:39He wants to get
00:37:40in and out.
00:37:41He is feeling
00:37:41the wrath of Zoo
00:37:42inside and doesn't
00:37:43want to feel it anymore.
00:37:45Well,
00:37:46we talked about
00:37:46the dirty tactics
00:37:48of Miguel Ángel
00:37:49Gonzalez.
00:37:50Let's go inside
00:37:51the ropes
00:37:51as Bobby Chez
00:37:53takes a closer look.
00:37:54Well,
00:37:55Steve,
00:37:55it started
00:37:55kind of right away.
00:37:56It wasn't a long
00:37:57time into the fight
00:37:58and as they got
00:37:59close,
00:37:59there was an accidental,
00:38:01just a completely
00:38:01innocent,
00:38:02accidental headbutt there.
00:38:04Immediately after that,
00:38:05here's what Miguel
00:38:06does inside.
00:38:06Here's the shoulder,
00:38:07here's the head.
00:38:09And obviously,
00:38:10Zoo took exception
00:38:11to that.
00:38:12A little later on,
00:38:13does it again.
00:38:14A little rabbit punch
00:38:15behind the head.
00:38:16Here,
00:38:17you'll see a little
00:38:17shoulder and a head.
00:38:18pretty consistent.
00:38:20If you're going to be
00:38:21dirty,
00:38:21you might as well
00:38:21go all out.
00:38:24And that one
00:38:25turned out to make
00:38:26a point deduction.
00:38:30They wind up
00:38:31deducting a point
00:38:31finally because
00:38:32here comes his
00:38:32shoulder again.
00:38:34And he loves it.
00:38:34There is a get
00:38:35right in the mouth.
00:38:36Oh,
00:38:36and he hit the referee
00:38:37too.
00:38:38The left hook
00:38:38accidentally.
00:38:39Frank Santori
00:38:40got it in the jaw.
00:38:42One point deducted
00:38:44from Gonzalez
00:38:44in round four
00:38:45for holding and hitting
00:38:46and generally dirty
00:38:47tactics.
00:38:48Zou has still
00:38:50yet to go to the
00:38:51body with that
00:38:51straight right hand.
00:38:52I'm extremely
00:38:53surprised that
00:38:54someone in the
00:38:54corner hasn't
00:38:55mentioned it.
00:38:56If they have,
00:38:56that he hasn't
00:38:56tried it.
00:38:57It's wide open.
00:38:58I think it'd be
00:38:58a real good
00:38:59effective tool for
00:39:00him.
00:39:02Many European
00:39:02fighters keep
00:39:03their left arms
00:39:04straight as
00:39:06Russian Kostya
00:39:07Zou has done
00:39:07at times thus far.
00:39:10Don't fight.
00:39:12Stop.
00:39:12Let me go.
00:39:13Lock.
00:39:14Kind of stiff
00:39:15arms him.
00:39:16That's a great
00:39:17body shot.
00:39:18That was a great
00:39:19body shot.
00:39:20Here's a left hook
00:39:21to the head
00:39:22by Zou.
00:39:23What an answer
00:39:23he had.
00:39:26There's that
00:39:26left hook he
00:39:27talked about.
00:39:28One of the keys
00:39:28to victory.
00:39:29He's starting to
00:39:30land it.
00:39:30Slowing Zou down
00:39:31a little bit.
00:39:32So far this is the
00:39:33bench opening
00:39:33in any round
00:39:35for Gonzalez.
00:39:36Remember what he
00:39:36said.
00:39:37After four we
00:39:37open up.
00:39:38Remember that
00:39:38Bobby.
00:39:39And he opened up.
00:39:41This is opening up.
00:39:42They dug a hole
00:39:43for the first four
00:39:43especially with
00:39:44the point.
00:39:44That's going to be
00:39:48controversial.
00:39:49Combination to the
00:39:50head by Zou.
00:39:55Momentarily staggering.
00:39:56He heard
00:39:57Gonzalez a little
00:39:57delayed reaction.
00:39:59Another one.
00:40:00A swarm by Zou.
00:40:01A barrage to the
00:40:02head.
00:40:05And he's a
00:40:05finisher.
00:40:06We're going to
00:40:07find out now if
00:40:07power has a little
00:40:08advantage over
00:40:09boxing.
00:40:10An overhand right
00:40:11by Kostya Zou.
00:40:12That really nailed
00:40:14Gonzalez.
00:40:15Oh now that was
00:40:16you see what he
00:40:17did there.
00:40:18There.
00:40:19That was wrong.
00:40:20That was wrong.
00:40:21Forearm going to
00:40:22give him.
00:40:23Oh what a
00:40:23left hook.
00:40:30Gonzalez taking a
00:40:31big beating here.
00:40:33Big beating.
00:40:33He's got a whole
00:40:39minute to endure
00:40:40it.
00:40:42And Zou continues
00:40:43to charge in.
00:40:45He's got to do
00:40:45something to keep
00:40:46Zou off and he's
00:40:47doing it right now.
00:40:51I don't think
00:40:52Gonzalez has ever
00:40:53faced anybody who
00:40:54hits quite this
00:40:54hard quite this
00:40:55often.
00:40:56Straight right
00:40:57hand to the head
00:40:57by Zou.
00:40:59What a round for
00:41:00Kostya Zou.
00:41:01Big big huge
00:41:02round.
00:41:02Again all over
00:41:04Gonzalez.
00:41:06Boy but what can
00:41:06what kind of job
00:41:07Gonzalez.
00:41:08He should have been
00:41:09gone by now.
00:41:10He's been pummeled.
00:41:11Look at that.
00:41:12Tremendous pressure
00:41:13by Zou.
00:41:1431 seconds to go.
00:41:16I can't understand
00:41:17what's holding him
00:41:17up.
00:41:18His head was almost
00:41:19perpendicular to his
00:41:20shoulders.
00:41:21Yeah he got bent
00:41:22back.
00:41:23Zou trying to end
00:41:24matters here in round
00:41:25five.
00:41:26What a heart on
00:41:27Gonzalez and what
00:41:28punching power for
00:41:29Zou.
00:41:29He is a monster.
00:41:30This could be very
00:41:32well a 10-8 round
00:41:33without the knockdown
00:41:36this is just clean
00:41:36a 10-8 round
00:41:37without a knockdown
00:41:38as you might be
00:41:39able to find.
00:41:39So doing it in such
00:41:40cool calm fashion
00:41:42just steps in and
00:41:43fires.
00:41:44Great round for
00:41:45Kostya Zou.
00:41:46What a great round
00:41:48and what a great
00:41:48round.
00:41:50Dan Boris loves it.
00:41:52What a great round
00:41:52for Gonzalez to take
00:41:53that kind of punishment.
00:41:54I don't think that's
00:41:55going to be any good.
00:41:56Zou has such a great
00:42:14straight right hand
00:42:15there the left hook
00:42:16and the right hand
00:42:17for a little short
00:42:18but he follows through
00:42:19and you can see that
00:42:21the legs come out
00:42:21and a little bit
00:42:22of a delayed reaction
00:42:23by Gonzalez
00:42:24and Zou still though
00:42:26pretty much headhunts
00:42:28here.
00:42:28When he goes back
00:42:28and watches this tape
00:42:29I'd like to know
00:42:30what he and his trainer
00:42:31think about going
00:42:31to the body.
00:42:32Here's another angle
00:42:33right hand
00:42:34clean on the jaw
00:42:36and you can see him
00:42:37wobble.
00:42:37His feet are not
00:42:38quite under him
00:42:38but again
00:42:39all up top
00:42:40same straight right
00:42:42hand to the solar
00:42:42plexus
00:42:43could have
00:42:44paralyzed
00:42:45Gonzalez
00:42:46but Zou
00:42:47didn't throw it.
00:42:47Pivotal round here
00:42:49round six
00:42:50Kostya Zou
00:42:52off a tremendous
00:42:53round five
00:42:54he had a big smile
00:42:54on his face
00:42:55as he walked
00:42:56to his corner
00:42:56at the end of the round
00:42:57Gonzalez has dug himself
00:42:59a very deep hole
00:43:00I don't know
00:43:00how he can ever
00:43:01get out of this
00:43:01but this is a championship
00:43:03fight that can be
00:43:04determined by a knockout
00:43:05and apparently
00:43:06it will.
00:43:09Zou 22
00:43:101-1
00:43:1018 knockouts
00:43:11Gonzalez 43
00:43:131-1
00:43:13with 33 KOs
00:43:14even if the people
00:43:17in Gonzalez's camp
00:43:18all recognized
00:43:20Kostya Zou's power
00:43:21even though they said
00:43:22they didn't think
00:43:23the throw was over
00:43:23and they didn't think
00:43:24it was that great
00:43:24I believe they
00:43:25underestimated his speed
00:43:26and his accuracy
00:43:27and his physical strength
00:43:28to come forward
00:43:30and don't forget
00:43:31that Gonzalez hasn't
00:43:33fought in 405 days
00:43:35that could be a factor
00:43:36here as well
00:43:3614 months
00:43:37he said he wouldn't
00:43:38suffer from ring rush
00:43:39but that's just him
00:43:40talking
00:43:41I don't think
00:43:43he's got that
00:43:43to worry about
00:43:44I think he's got
00:43:44to worry about
00:43:45to guys
00:43:46go doing all this
00:43:46now
00:43:47he's great
00:43:49he's a great
00:43:50right tonight
00:43:50yeah I wouldn't
00:43:53worry about too much
00:43:53about Russ
00:43:54I'm worried about
00:43:54that Australian steal
00:43:55pure iron
00:43:59straight left jab
00:44:09he missed with the
00:44:09right though
00:44:10he's a great uppercut
00:44:22did you see Gonzales
00:44:24he's got to put farth some
00:44:36offense here
00:44:37he's got to put farth some
00:44:48offense here
00:44:49Miguel on hell
00:44:51ário Gonzalez
00:44:52he's slowing a bit after a
00:45:14furious pace earlier first five
00:45:175 rounds, plus.
00:45:22Oh, nice uppercut.
00:45:23Beautiful right uppercut.
00:45:25Zou is quick, isn't he?
00:45:27Just as you were going away thinking it's all safe and sound,
00:45:30whoop, there Gonzalez.
00:45:31As you see Gonzalez, there was leaning on the ropes,
00:45:33leaning backward.
00:45:34His midsection wide open, and I can't imagine,
00:45:37Kasia Zou, that he doesn't see or someone doesn't tell him.
00:45:42And Zou finishes strong.
00:45:44Well, we've got more world championship action coming away on Showtime next month.
00:45:50On Friday, September 24th,
00:45:52we'll present a triple header featuring WBA middleweight champ William Joppy
00:45:56in his third fight with former champion Julio Cesar Green.
00:46:00Our two other world title fights headlined by WBC middleweight champ Keith Holmes
00:46:04and WBA junior otherweight champion Shumday Mitchell.
00:46:07Catch this exciting triple header on Showtime,
00:46:10Friday, September the 24th at the special time of 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.
00:46:17And then in October, another triple header.
00:46:20Ricardo Lopez, one of boxing's best,
00:46:22will step up to challenge Will Grigsby for his IBF junior flyweight title.
00:46:26Julio Cesar Chavez also on the card with Christy Martin.
00:46:29That's Saturday, October 2nd, 9 30 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.
00:46:33And an interested spectator on hand here is the WB's A Super Lightweight Champion,
00:46:39Shumday Mitchell.
00:46:40He could be fighting one of these guys in the near future.
00:46:43Zou racing out from his corner to attack Miguel Angel Gonzalez to begin round center.
00:46:50See, part of the reason that Zou is not getting tired and not being forced to use up energy
00:46:57is when he's ready to sit there, Gonzalez doesn't do that much pressure.
00:47:01And when they come together, they hold each other.
00:47:04They clinch.
00:47:05He gets to rest.
00:47:06How about the scorecards, unofficial?
00:47:10He's a runaway.
00:47:12I have a 60 to 52.
00:47:14Six rounds of zip with two two-point rounds.
00:47:16The point taken off plus the round that he got rocked.
00:47:18I'm not that bad off, but it's just about the same.
00:47:25Well, wacky white left.
00:47:26I got 58-54.
00:47:27Combination by Kostya Zou, who continues to be in command.
00:47:32Here's the online scoring.
00:47:33Zou all the way.
00:47:34A shutout.
00:47:35Zippo.
00:47:36Well, the people at home agree with me.
00:47:37I feel a little better.
00:47:38He's just his hands are too heavy.
00:47:43He has in his repertoire, he has those heavy hands.
00:47:47The kind of hands like Chavez that when they hit you, they damage you.
00:47:51You see the damage now as it's evidenced on Miguel Angel Gonzalez's face.
00:47:56Gonzalez feeling the power of Kostya Zou, who is fast.
00:48:02He is strong.
00:48:03He is elusive.
00:48:04He is intelligent.
00:48:06And relentless is the word we've got to put in here.
00:48:08Well, that sums it all up.
00:48:10We've used that word earlier.
00:48:13A lot of red around the right eye of Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:48:17A welt underneath.
00:48:18There's another low blow warning.
00:48:22What's amazing is if Gonzalez hasn't scored well until then, enough to hurt him or keep him off.
00:48:30Some winging right hands.
00:48:32There's no denying the heart and the will of Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:48:36He just doesn't seem to be at the same skill level as Kostya Zou.
00:48:40And every time he throws a right hand to the body, he gets countered with a left hook.
00:48:43Right on that swelling right eye.
00:48:45Kostya Zou is very quick with the counter.
00:48:47A little warning about punching to the kidneys.
00:48:51About five straight punches by the way.
00:49:01No, stop.
00:49:02Don't punch him.
00:49:03Don't punch him.
00:49:04The surprise here is after having Gonzalez in that much trouble, it's amazing that he let
00:49:09him off the hook in the next round and isn't pressing him in this round.
00:49:12Well, Gonzalez proved that he's not only got a good chin, he's durable.
00:49:15He's got a great big heart.
00:49:16He recovered well.
00:49:18Gonzalez continues to be punished.
00:49:19He just gave him another shoulder.
00:49:20He gave Zou another shoulder.
00:49:21Well, he's desperate.
00:49:22Gonzalez is desperate now.
00:49:23Be interesting to see how many of those they take before they disqualify.
00:49:24But there's no need for those tactics.
00:49:25Right hand.
00:49:26Give him a good take.
00:49:27King your help down with that beautiful jam.
00:49:28Get a water paint on the head.
00:49:29Can't that hurt.
00:49:30Oh, you're not going to pass this round.
00:49:31Hey, this is a good one, you're not going to pass this match.
00:49:33This is to take the ball.
00:49:34Is that a good one, it's going to pass.
00:49:35Oh, it is going to be the first two that was.
00:49:36So yeah, that's the back one.
00:49:37This is the back one.
00:49:38That's the right eight three.
00:49:39That's the right one.
00:49:40That's the right eight.
00:49:41That's it.
00:49:42That's the right eight.
00:49:43This is a good one.
00:49:44That's the right eight.
00:49:45Who's going to have a good one.
00:49:46That's the right hand.
00:49:48And I'm going to take one of the things that has to keep it off the game.
00:49:49A bit of water, Pete on the head, eyes back, that's enough, that's enough, you're not feeling good mate, look at it again, water on the head Pete, push your head back mate.
00:50:12Zu ever the aggressor, putting Gonzalez's back to the ropes as often as he can, making him pay, he missed a few shots, but he lands a few shots and Gonzalez again, while he's going backwards, leaning back like that, he can't hurt anybody, there's no way for him to hurt Zu when he's leaning backward like that on the ropes, it's impossible.
00:50:34Here's one more look, side angle view, always the aggressor, always coming, offense on the mind, misses a couple, then lands with the left, nice left hand there, finish off the combination.
00:50:49This is a textbook performance by Kostya Zu.
00:50:52Zu is running across it, I mean he wants to get this on, he looks like he's having a good time, the other guy looks like he's suffering in agony.
00:50:59Well I think Zu's trying to make a statement, and so far he's made a pretty good one.
00:51:03No one has dominated Miguel and Gil Gonzalez like this, ever.
00:51:07And certainly not De La Hoya, and certainly not De Chavez, nobody's done this to him.
00:51:18Kostya Zu breaks out of it with a beautiful combination of the head, then he steps back and smiles at Gonzalez.
00:51:23Almost a low blow by Miguel.
00:51:28Yeah, he has got his trunks up pretty high.
00:51:35Zu almost playing with Gonzalez now by whipping his left hand around and then stinging him with a straight right to the head.
00:51:41Again, he's going right through the gloves of Gonzalez, who can't defend himself.
00:51:45Kostya Zu commits himself with that right hand, he turns it on, even with a jab there.
00:51:51When he's not using that jab as a feeler, watch that right hand, he commits himself.
00:51:55Oh, a smacking straight right to the head by Zu, and if the ropes weren't there, Gonzalez would be in the first row.
00:52:01It's almost over gentlemen.
00:52:03Yep, I mean he's going through there without any blocking at all.
00:52:06I mean, you can't take that much more punishment.
00:52:09He is getting beat up as Gonzalez, Gonzalez is taking a beating.
00:52:13They're too heavy and they're too many.
00:52:15And Zu knows he just can't be hurt by any return shot.
00:52:19So he just charges in, goes at will, landing repeatedly.
00:52:26He doesn't have a mark on his face, Zu, and he just smiles back.
00:52:29And Gonzalez almost robotic like.
00:52:32Here's Kostya Zu.
00:52:34Straight left hand that lands clearly.
00:52:37There's a nice shot to the body.
00:52:39Now I want to see him do it with the right hand.
00:52:41This fight would probably be over.
00:52:43Would have been, or would be now, if he worked their body as hard as he's worked with that right hand to the chin.
00:52:48What right hands, Miguel Angel Gonzalez has absorbed.
00:52:52Zu continues to be in total control.
00:52:55Oh, a winging left hook by Kostya Zu off the forehead of Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:53:02Brutal punishment.
00:53:04Boy, that was a series of strong, stinging punches.
00:53:07Let's keep the Gonzalez up.
00:53:10Oh, that was a low point.
00:53:12Boy, that was low.
00:53:13You still think that ring rust is no factor here?
00:53:16You've got to be kidding me, Gertie.
00:53:17You've got to be kidding me.
00:53:19Now he does look, it does look like it.
00:53:22You're a wrestler when he hits it.
00:53:23Are you okay?
00:53:24Take a minute.
00:53:25You okay?
00:53:26You ready?
00:53:27Obviously, Kostya Zu is doing incredible damage here.
00:53:33Probably the toughest fighter that Gonzalez has ever fought in his life.
00:53:36Which is saying a lot because you're talking about De La Hoya and Chavez.
00:53:41But the long layoff has to have some wear into it.
00:53:46It's just getting to be a repeat of every other 30 seconds.
00:53:50Kostya Zu goes and unloads when he wants to and rests when he feels like it.
00:53:54Well, I'm trying to see what they're going to tell him in Gonzalez's corner.
00:54:01Let's listen.
00:54:11You've got to throw punches.
00:54:12If not, I'm going to get up there and disqualify you.
00:54:14I'm going to stop this fight unless you start throwing punches.
00:54:17Kostya Zu commits with that right hand so well.
00:54:28There you see a commitment.
00:54:30The drive.
00:54:31He comes in forward.
00:54:32He drives.
00:54:33He goes in.
00:54:34See his shoulders.
00:54:35Hip turned into that right hand.
00:54:36He really punches through the ropes.
00:54:38Punches through the gloves, I mean.
00:54:40And really, really.
00:54:42Here's another replay.
00:54:43He just commits with that right hand so well.
00:54:45And he's accurate with it.
00:54:46And while he's on the heels, there's nothing Gonzalez can do to hurt him.
00:54:51There he turns him with a beautiful left hook underneath.
00:54:53Two light right hands.
00:54:54Then he dives in with the left shoulder on the hook.
00:54:56Really committing his weight.
00:54:58A vicious assault that continues as two range punches on the head and body of Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
00:55:08Still amazingly no knockdown.
00:55:09When you hear your own corner guy say, if you don't start punching, I'm going to stop this.
00:55:13You know that you're talking about a shout out.
00:55:15This guy's just beating him.
00:55:16Every round like you're gone.
00:55:18The corner man's got to figure, hey, it reaches a point where there's no percentage of eating up your fighter here.
00:55:23That was dramatic stuff from Abel Sanchez.
00:55:26Boy, Gonzalez has to hope for a Vince Phillips-type finish here.
00:55:29He's not going to leave with the title.
00:55:31Oh, what a right hand.
00:55:33Overhand right, straight right, whatever you want to call it.
00:55:36It landed.
00:55:37There's another straight right hand off the head of Gonzalez.
00:55:40And Santori looking in very closely.
00:55:42Gonzalez, to his credit, just fired a couple of shots back.
00:55:45Otherwise, the referee was very close to calling his a done deal.
00:55:48What result by Gonzalez.
00:55:50One of the keys to victory, I said, too, for Gonzalez was that he had to come forward, Steve,
00:55:59which he was never able to do and set the pace.
00:56:01If this was anybody else, this fight may have been stopped by now.
00:56:05Yeah.
00:56:06Well, he just, Gonzalez had nothing to keep him off.
00:56:09He just comes right through everything Gonzalez throws.
00:56:12I'm amazed to see that happen in Gonzalez.
00:56:15With the punching power that he's showing.
00:56:16Maybe he hurt me.
00:56:17He went to the body with that right hand.
00:56:18He didn't land it, but he went there.
00:56:20Well, Bobby, he doesn't need any help.
00:56:23He's doing it pretty good.
00:56:24He sure does.
00:56:25He's hurting Gonzalez with the jab.
00:56:27And he's landed so much to the head.
00:56:29You have to think, okay, let me throw a couple of these big bombs downstairs.
00:56:32Gonzalez came back with a short left hook, but left Sue on phase, basically, as he comes swarming back.
00:56:39He doesn't look like he's got anything with his points, and he shouldn't have with a kind of beating he just takes it.
00:56:45He has just had everything taken out of him, Gonzalez.
00:56:48This is a beaten former champion who's getting punished by a jab right now.
00:56:56Sue looks nice and fresh, and Gonzalez looks like a completely beaten fighter.
00:57:06Right now, Gonzalez doesn't have the strength.
00:57:08I'm sure he's in pain.
00:57:10He's been battered and beaten from field of the post for the last three or four rounds consistently.
00:57:15Well, Sue has certainly learned well from his previous fights.
00:57:23He certainly has.
00:57:25He's come along.
00:57:26He looked like a winner the first time I saw him in Australia, and he hadn't shown anything else but what I saw there.
00:57:32But if anybody were to tell me he can handle Gonzalez this easily, I would have thought it was crazy, because he has handled it easily.
00:57:39I believe he'd win the fight, and I believe he'd be reasonably convincing, but not this convincing.
00:57:43Yeah.
00:57:45This would have been impossible to predict.
00:57:46Oh, man.
00:57:47What a combination to the head by Costa Zou.
00:57:49A left hook, straight right hand to the head.
00:57:51There's a straight right hand to the nose again by Zou.
00:57:54Now he goes down to the body at the back.
00:57:56Yeah.
00:57:57There's water on his head.
00:57:59Water on his head.
00:58:04That's it.
00:58:06There's water on his head.
00:58:08Water on his head.
00:58:09That's it.
00:58:11There's water on his head.
00:58:13Come on, T.
00:58:14There you go, baby.
00:58:15Put him on.
00:58:16There's water on his head.
00:58:17Come on, T.
00:58:18Come on.
00:58:20Come on, T.
00:58:22There you go, baby.
00:58:23Put him on his head.
00:58:24What a nice day.
00:58:25Do the right.
00:58:26Do the right.
00:58:27Do the right.
00:58:28There you go, baby.
00:58:29Put him on down.
00:58:38I'm going to stop it if you don't throw enough punches.
00:58:41They got everybody up there, including a doctor.
00:58:43Everybody else is up there.
00:58:47This is the 10th round.
00:58:49He may need a priest.
00:58:51Well, he's got everybody but a surgeon and hairdresser in there.
00:58:53He's got everybody.
00:58:55And everybody's saying the same thing.
00:58:56If you don't start fighting, we're stopping this.
00:58:59I'll tell you what, though.
00:59:00It's a testament to his intestinal fortitude.
00:59:04There's no questioning his heart and his courage.
00:59:07But right now, sometimes you just get to a point where all you're going to do is hurt the body more.
00:59:12Gonzalez has never been stopped.
00:59:14But a stoppage here might prevent further punishment by Kostya Zou.
00:59:19He is so very far behind on points.
00:59:21Stop, stop, no, stop.
00:59:22He has been beyond points for a long time now.
00:59:30Well, he's trying hard, but that being blocked by Zou, Zou comes back with a furious assault.
00:59:36Zou's used a lot of energy, too.
00:59:39He doesn't want to waste himself and let everything hang out with two rounds to go.
00:59:44Abel Sanchez is stopping him.
00:59:46Yeah, he is.
00:59:46That's it.
00:59:48And the referee, of course, has the last say.
00:59:50And the referee agrees.
00:59:51It's over.
00:59:52It didn't look like he had a chance of doing anything.
00:59:54The father, Boris, to Australian and Russian fans of Kostya Zou, celebrate the victory.
01:00:06We've got a new champion.
01:00:08I don't know how they all got in the ring so quickly.
01:00:11Well, if that wasn't an impressive performance, I don't know what is.
01:00:15They got in there about as quick as a Kostya Zou right hand.
01:00:17It might have not been the fight of the year we anticipated, but it was the fight of the year for Kostya Zou.
01:00:22It might have been the beating of the year.
01:00:23Yeah, the beating of the year could be, and the one-way beating of the year.
01:00:27We thought we were going to see a nice, balanced fight, but Zou took over, and he just wouldn't quit.
01:00:33It's amazing he didn't knock him out in that one round.
01:00:35Bobby, I don't think I've seen a fighter take that much punishment from a guy who can punch like that and not go down.
01:00:40I'll tell you what.
01:00:41He really showed what he was made of with his heart at least and his chin.
01:00:46Because clearly in the fifth round, it was close enough to stop.
01:00:49Yeah.
01:00:50If it had stopped in there and stopped it, nobody would have said it.
01:00:53It wouldn't have been a bad stoppage.
01:00:54That is the picture of a beaten fighter.
01:00:56There's a victorious Kostya Zou for the first time in over two years.
01:01:00The WBC has a super lightweight champion, and his name is Kostya Zou.
01:01:06The victory comes at the expense of a beaten up Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
01:01:12Zou now a two-time world champ.
01:01:14Being consoled there is Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
01:01:19You see the remnants of a cut over the left eye.
01:01:21A happy Kostya Zou now improves to 23-1-1 with 19 knockouts, 7-1-1 in world title fights.
01:01:29Take a look back at the stoppage right here.
01:01:32This stoppage is warranted, not just by the referee, but Abel Sanchez knows his fighter.
01:01:38They're together in the gym six, seven days a week for endless weeks on end, and they've been together for four years.
01:01:45He knew his fighter had nothing left, and he was sparing him what could have been a very, very severe beating.
01:01:49You'll see the referee will look over in the corner, and he'll see Abel Sanchez, as you just see him coming into the screen on the left, and he says,
01:01:58Okay, we're waving it off.
01:02:00In effect, they basically threw in the towel.
01:02:04This is another look at it from the overhead.
01:02:07Some of the shots were very clean.
01:02:09There you can see Gonzalez.
01:02:11I mean, he's getting hit cleanly with a lot of the punches.
01:02:13A few of them are missing.
01:02:14His legs aren't under him.
01:02:16He has almost no offense to offer back.
01:02:18You know, it's not a bad call either way, even if the referee did it without Abel Sanchez.
01:02:24This is the second time in three fights this has happened in a Kostiazou fight.
01:02:28In his ninth round, TKO over Rafael Ruelas.
01:02:31Joe Goosen, the trainer for Ruelas, jumped into the ring as well to stop the fight.
01:02:37The referee stopped it there.
01:02:37I saw that fight, and I think that was also warranted.
01:02:40The referee, it was borderline.
01:02:42Ruelas was still trying.
01:02:43Endurable guy with a great reputation for being tough, but still, there is a point when you say,
01:02:47okay, enough's enough.
01:02:48That's how tough Sue is.
01:02:49Meanwhile, Gonzalez suffers his second defeat.
01:02:52Only his second defeat.
01:02:53Now, 43-2-1.
01:02:54His only other loss, of course, to Oscar De La Hoya.
01:02:58And only his second loss in 14 world title fights.
01:03:01Let's get the official time from our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon Jr.
01:03:04Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time.
01:03:1048 seconds in round number 10.
01:03:13A referee in charge, Frank Santori, stops the contest and recognizes the coroner's request
01:03:19to stop the bout.
01:03:21The winner by way of technical knockout and the undisputed WBC super lightweight champion
01:03:30of the world, Kostia Zou.
01:03:42Kostia Zou has to be the champion.
01:03:44The fight actually being stopped by Able Sanchez coming into the ring, and then the referee
01:04:04obviously agreed with Able Sanchez.
01:04:07Technically, the referee has to say, he could say, no, he's still fighting, but most of
01:04:11the time, I don't know the time you'd ever see a referee not, of course, you know, give
01:04:14it to the corner's request.
01:04:16Especially in a decisive situation like this, it wasn't even close.
01:04:20I'll tell you, Johnny Lewis, Zou's trainer, said he punches as hard as a junior middleweight.
01:04:24I might go up a few levels there.
01:04:27He punches like a heavyweight.
01:04:28He punches well and he's accurate.
01:04:29And the reason I thought he'd win, talked about earlier, his pressure, the number of punches,
01:04:33and just how hard he does it, they're damaging punches.
01:04:36Well, the judges had it 100 to 98, 99, 89, 99, 90 at the time of the stoppage.
01:04:42I had it 100 to 89.
01:04:47100 to 88, 99, 89, 99, 90 on the three judges' scorecards.
01:04:52Well, I actually, I had it 90 to 79 after nine.
01:04:56If we go to the 10th round, it would be 189.
01:04:58All right, yeah, Chuck Williams, 99, 89.
01:05:00Don O'Neill, 99, 90, as we look at the finishing touches.
01:05:05And I'm just curious why they scored the 10th round.
01:05:08The 10th round wasn't over.
01:05:08Why'd they score?
01:05:10Well, let's see.
01:05:11John Keene had it 100 to 88.
01:05:14You understand my confusion, don't you?
01:05:16They have scored the 10th round.
01:05:17The 10th round did not be, was not completed to be scored.
01:05:21Well, I guess incomplete rounds need to be scored.
01:05:27Are scored.
01:05:27Okay, you solved that for me.
01:05:30Thank you so much.
01:05:31And there it is.
01:05:33As Kostya Zou exalts, Russian-born Kostya Zou,
01:05:36now a citizen of Australia, the new WBC super lightweight champion
01:05:40into the ring of the fight doctor, Ferdin Pacheco.
01:05:43Well, this might not have been the fight of the year,
01:05:45but you were the fighter of the year this far.
01:05:47You have taken command of an exceptional champion
01:05:49and took him to the cleaners.
01:05:51Did you think it was going to be that easy for you?
01:05:53Because you just went right to him.
01:05:56Before fight, I said that I can make this fight very easy or very hard.
01:06:01Not because Miguel, Miguel is a great champion.
01:06:04Because of my ability and for the past seven months,
01:06:07I tried to remember what I used to have done in amateur.
01:06:09Be smart.
01:06:10I never take any punches from an amateur career.
01:06:12And no one can touch me.
01:06:14And with power I had in a professional,
01:06:17I decided to go and smash anybody.
01:06:20And I did for some time.
01:06:23And it worked very well.
01:06:24But sometimes against a fighter like Miguel,
01:06:27who is very tough, who is very strong,
01:06:29who can stay with you and don't give any space to you,
01:06:33I decided to be smart at boxing
01:06:36and at the same time make a power shot,
01:06:38which is through all the fight to the body,
01:06:42to the head, and make him miss.
01:06:45You know, one of the things,
01:06:46I hate to cut you off because we want to show you
01:06:48the headbutts of the first and second round.
01:06:51This is the intention.
01:06:52Look at it.
01:06:53You look at it.
01:06:54This is the intention.
01:06:56Now, just watch it closely.
01:06:58Not yet.
01:06:59Not yet.
01:06:59You see, there.
01:07:04That's an intention.
01:07:05It's intention from a girl.
01:07:07Yeah.
01:07:07Twice.
01:07:08In the first and second round.
01:07:09He's done a few times.
01:07:10Well, that's why he lost the point.
01:07:12Yeah, he lost the point.
01:07:13I prefer clean fight.
01:07:15I enjoy it.
01:07:17He's done a few times.
01:07:18He's done, yeah, many times.
01:07:20Esos son los dos cabezazos.
01:07:21I'm talking to the champion now, the ex-champion.
01:07:24Esos son los dos cabezazos que te quiero dar un punto.
01:07:27¿Por qué usted dio con la cabeza intencionadamente?
01:07:29Why did you hit him intentionally?
01:07:35Well, he said, I think I lost my head because of me getting butt and getting cut.
01:07:41I got a little nutty with it.
01:07:43Esos son los dos cabezazos, ¿no?
01:07:45Esos son los dos cabezazos, ¿no?
01:07:48Esos son los dos cabezazos, ¿no?
01:07:50The difference in size, he said, he just got out of control with the thing.
01:07:54He just apologized.
01:07:55He's out of control with those intentional headbutts.
01:07:58The fifth round was so brutal.
01:08:00Did you think he could take that kind of punishment for five rounds?
01:08:03Yeah, of course.
01:08:04He's a little serious champion.
01:08:06Yes, but you punched like a brick, like throwing a brick through the wall,
01:08:10and you hit this guy with everything.
01:08:12But sometimes when you hit it very hard, you can lose your cool.
01:08:15When you lose your cool, you lose your power.
01:08:17And I didn't want to do this.
01:08:19I want to be smart today.
01:08:20I want to show my skills in this fight.
01:08:23That I try to prove that I'm not on this.
01:08:25Were you satisfied?
01:08:26Would you have been satisfied to go to a decision?
01:08:28I mean, would you have taken it on, or did you think you needed it?
01:08:31Yeah, I'm happy to go to all the way to them.
01:08:34I mean, all the way to decision.
01:08:36I knew I would win a round.
01:08:37Johnny Lewis, what's next for him?
01:08:40Straight back home to Sydney, Australia, and we'll just have a nice week or two rest,
01:08:44and then we'll work it out.
01:08:45All right, once again, noncommittal, they're going to go back, take it easy,
01:08:49and now let me turn to the Mexican champion, González.
01:08:52Yparote, give us it in this place.
01:08:54What are you doing?
01:08:55Well, for the moment to rest, of course.
01:08:59I think for the moment to rest.
01:09:01I think that in some way, I started to see that I was affected by the fact that inactivity
01:09:05He does think that the inactivity didn't...
01:09:09He does think that the inactivity didn't...
01:09:13He said he's better at the night, and you have to recognize it.
01:09:23And we're going to rest, and we're going to go right back to the battle.
01:09:26¿Usted creía que se debía parar la pelea?
01:09:29Do you think you should have been stopped?
01:09:43Bueno, he had me...
01:09:44He had the distance on me, had the size.
01:09:48He was the best, no problem.
01:09:51Lo que me resta es trabajar, trabajar más duro y estar más activo.
01:09:54What I have to do is stop.
01:09:56Angel, do you have any problem at all?
01:09:57This is the manager, Angel, who's had many champions.
01:10:00Did you have any problem stopping that?
01:10:02No, actually, I was telling him I was going to stop it in the seventh.
01:10:04I gave him a couple more rounds and he responded like I wanted.
01:10:08And then in the ninth, I told him if he didn't throw a bunch, he said I was going to stop it.
01:10:11And as soon as he took a couple shots against the ropes, there was no sense in continuing.
01:10:14It was obvious that...
01:10:15We had that on tape.
01:10:17We heard you say it nice and clearly.
01:10:18If you don't fight, we're stopping this fight.
01:10:20I think it was stopped on time.
01:10:23Thank you very much.
01:10:24And we return to Steve Albert at ringside.
01:10:27All right.
01:10:27Thank you very much, Bertie.
01:10:28It is now officially being designated as a technical knockout.
01:10:3248 seconds, round 10 for Kostya Zou and Bobby Ches.
01:10:39No matter how you look at it, you see how the online scorers saw it.
01:10:44A complete whitewash for Kostya Zou and can't disagree with them.
01:10:48However, you look at it, it was a clear-cut, decisive, convincing victory for Kostya Zou.
01:10:53Most folks came in thinking this was going to be a very, very even fight, and it certainly was anything but.
01:11:02I told people before the fight that asked me my opinion that I thought Kostya Zou would get a little too hard,
01:11:06was a little too accurate, and put on too much pressure.
01:11:08It was too busy, and that Miguel Angel Gonzalez was going to have real problems with that.
01:11:11And he doesn't counter straight.
01:11:12He doesn't counter quickly.
01:11:14He loops everything.
01:11:15That's not the way to beat Kostya Zou.
01:11:16Now, I could see later in the fight why Miguel Angel Gonzalez might resort to desperate tactics
01:11:22and foul his opponent Kostya Zou, but why in the world, as we take a look inside the ropes with Bobby Ches,
01:11:30would he start out that way using foul tactics?
01:11:32I think Kostya Zou came out and stung him early, and he wanted to do something to send a message back.
01:11:37It's going to be a rough night.
01:11:38I'm going to be here for a while, and you're not going to walk through me, and that's what he resorted to.
01:11:43And, you know, he said in his ring, in the ring, he lost his head a little bit.
01:11:46He was in a war.
01:11:47He got a lot of what he didn't expect, and none of what he did expect, and he resorted to doing that,
01:11:52and that just came second nature to him.
01:11:55Now, when we met with Kostya Zou's people yesterday, they refused to speculate on the future.
01:12:01They just wanted to take the business at hand, and that was Miguel Angel Gonzalez.
01:12:04One thing at a time.
01:12:05One thing at a time.
01:12:05The business is now behind them.
01:12:07Where does Kostya Zou go from here?
01:12:09Kostya Zou, based on this performance, he made a statement, and he stamped it with an exclamation point.
01:12:13He can go just about anywhere he wants.
01:12:15A fight with him and Sean Bay Mitchell, I can't tell you how much money I'd pay to see that one myself.
01:12:19That's a great fight.
01:12:20It's Ron Millett, Randall Bailey, two of the other guys.
01:12:22Exciting styles.
01:12:23Kostya Zou is the type of fighter that you have to fight or die.
01:12:27He can't be in a boring fight.
01:12:28He'll either run through you in a quick knockout, or it becomes a war.
01:12:32Well, Sean Bay Mitchell was in the audience here watching tonight.
01:12:34I wonder what was going through his mind.
01:12:35As he took a look at Kostya Zou.
01:12:38Let's swing back up into the ring right now.
01:12:41This is always fun.
01:12:42The Fight Doctor with Don King.
01:12:44All right, Don.
01:12:46Again, we've seen an excellent fight tonight, and your little heart must be going pitty-pat to think what you can do with Sue.
01:12:51What can you do with Sue coming up?
01:12:53Well, Sue has, first let me say congratulations to this young man, because he put on a tremendous fight.
01:12:59Miguel Angel Gonzalez was never in a fight from round one.
01:13:02I've never seen such devastating power in either hand and the skills and talent that this man used in boxing.
01:13:08So I want to congratulate him.
01:13:09He definitely is the fight of the year, Ferdi, just as you predicted.
01:13:13And I think it's just a tremendous advance to boxing.
01:13:16You see these kind of great fights.
01:13:17Now, Sue will have to fight the legendary icon, Julio Cesar Chavez, and that's going to be the mandatory for him.
01:13:26And it's so exciting because Showtime has two great shows coming up.
01:13:30In September, as you know, we're going to have the three champions in Washington, D.C., with my good friend, A. Poland, a dynamite guy, him and Irene.
01:13:38And I think it's going to be a super thing for the MCI to have Shamba Mitchell, Keith Holmes, and William Joppy is back.
01:13:47You know, so there will be that fight against the interim champion, Julio Cesar Green.
01:13:51So all the Dominicans around the world, I want you to be there in Washington, D.C. on September 24th.
01:13:57Then on October the 2nd, at the Oasis in the Desert, the Hilton Hotel Park Place Entertainment with Arthur Goldberg at the helm will be hosting Julio Cesar Chavez and Mr. Wise.
01:14:10And then we'll have Christy Martin fighting Danielle Summers.
01:14:13And we're going to have that inimitable, incomparable, Benito Lopez, Ricardo Benito Lopez.
01:14:19The best fighter in the world.
01:14:20The best fighter in the world is fighting Will Grimsby.
01:14:22I'm going to give you, I'm going to do, I'm going to hold you to something from old friendship.
01:14:26One word alone.
01:14:27Trinidad or Delahoya.
01:14:30Trinidad.
01:14:31That's it.
01:14:31That's the word.
01:14:32Trinidad will knock him out.
01:14:32That's the word.
01:14:33No, one word.
01:14:34One word.
01:14:34I got to tell him, man.
01:14:35One word.
01:14:35All the showtime fans.
01:14:36I'm going back.
01:14:37I want you to listen to it.
01:14:38I'm going back.
01:14:38Trinidad will knock him out.
01:14:40At ringside.
01:14:41Knock him out.
01:14:41Knock him.
01:14:42Knock him.
01:14:45Don King and the words, one word, don't go hand in hand, folks.
01:14:49Anyway, let's put the final stamp on it.
01:14:52Kostia Zoo in convincing fashion.
01:14:54TKO.
01:14:55It's being called 48 seconds into round 10.
01:14:57And he captures the WBC Super Lightweight Championship.
01:15:02Big night for a big hitter.
01:15:04Kostia Zoo.
01:15:05More World Championship action coming your way on Showtime next month as we practice.
01:15:09TKO.
01:15:10MAN.
