00:00:00of a championship fight it's a sequel to a competitive and debatable first encounter
00:00:07it's peter tony too well as he has matriculated through the boxing weight classes over an 18-year
00:00:16career james tony has been in nine matches that ended in split decisions or majority decisions
00:00:22there have been wins losses and draws and always there was monday morning quarterbacking of the
00:00:27judges scorecards and so it was exactly the same with his last split decision
00:00:33to put it mildly the disparity in scores for the james tony samuel peter fight was met with some
00:00:49surprise one judge had it 115 to 112 for tony while the other two had it 116 111 for peter
00:01:01i know i won the fight and everybody run the ring and around the world sort of fight it's all the
00:01:05injustice that happened and i know in my heart and the way i fought i know i won the fight for those
00:01:11who believe tony won the fight here's what influenced them they saw him land the greater volume of
00:01:16punches and constantly score with his jab look at his face you see his head constantly get a snap
00:01:24back i had the back of his head touched his ass they saw him counterpunch effectively and frustrate
00:01:30peter with his still impressive defensive skills everything you do everything when you go left to
00:01:36right hand that's it with stevie one exceeding him tony in the minds of many controlled the majority of
00:01:43most rounds however peter time and time again rallied in the waning moments but now it's peter
00:01:49jumping all over tony at the bell peter also had a point taken away in the ninth round
00:01:55oh wow what is that that's illegal that's what that is that deduction further solidifies tony's
00:02:04claim of victory everybody's seen that just what happened in that fight after this fight
00:02:08we won't hear no more about saving peter except back in africa picking corn so what influenced the
00:02:13two judges and those who scored the fight for samuel peter the power and showiness of his punches
00:02:19clearly resonated with peter's advocates they saw him hurt tony especially here in the fifth round
00:02:25i saw his hair i saw his leg wobbly started back up you know often when they traded punches as they do
00:02:32here tony's left hook lands perfectly but peter's punch is more dramatic pushing tony backwards this
00:02:39exchange leads to another round ending rally for peter yeah that got tony's attention here at the end of
00:02:44the round peter used these climactic flurries throughout the fight and this may have contributed
00:02:50to the two 116 111 scores for him in boxing controversy about scoring is as prevalent as opening
00:02:58bells and adamant fans that's who he was a nigerian fairytale and while we can argue forever over who won
00:03:04this match one solution let's do it again he's wrong right now he's done is good i'm gonna finish
00:03:10i'm gonna show you yeah this time i'm gonna beat him hands down i'm gonna leave no stone unturned i'm
00:03:16gonna be turning your hands down he's gonna quit well for sam peter the controversy over his win and
00:03:23the mandated rematch motivated him to take his training to a higher level and that's evidenced by
00:03:29his more chiseled appearance and the eight pounds that he has shed since the last fight
00:03:34now peter and his people believe that this along with the improved skills he showed in the first
00:03:39tony fight will be enough for a victory tonight
00:03:43all right you uh of course were not in the minority in the first fight you thought that tony won
00:03:53yeah you know obviously i was not alone i scored in a couple points for james tony
00:03:57the three uh journalists who were in our press row scoring they scored it for james tony a vast
00:04:02majority of the other boxing writers on end also started for tony and of course one of the judges
00:04:06i think the problem is that the margin of scores by the two judges who scored it for sam peter 116 111
00:04:15is what created some of the furor in those scores there were only three rounds given to james tony and
00:04:21steve that just didn't jive with reality to a lot of people will will that decision have any influence
00:04:26do you think on how the judges will see tonight's fight well you know that's an interesting question
00:04:31obviously those judges don't exist in a vacuum they saw all the furor and there's still a pr
00:04:36campaign that has gone on from the tony camp to paint tony as a victim there's kind of a history of
00:04:42this you know when evander holyfield had that draw with lennox lewis lewis was thought of as a victim
00:04:46in their rematch lewis did win the fight but i thought many more rounds went to lewis than should have
00:04:52because there was kind of a backlash there could be the same kind of backlash against samuel peter
00:04:56and that's why strategically peter has one new mission in this fight
00:05:01and that mission is to increase his punch output which will score points win rounds and make the
00:05:1038 year old tony work harder if tony throws a left hook peter must counter it as he did in the first
00:05:18fight peter's is just more powerful no one lands right hands against tony but peter did it in their
00:05:24first fight since he's unlocked the mystery of landing it keep doing it
00:05:28for james tony the jab isn't essential he used it less as the first fight went on it hurt him
00:05:36and only throw left hooks off the ropes in the center of the ring peter has room to counter that punch
00:05:43and when peter does throw his right hand and overextends it tony can counter that punch and do it
00:05:51effectively so how will al's keys impact your way of thinking in terms of tonight's fan participation
00:06:05as we invite you to text message your predictions on our main event to us here at showtime using your

00:06:22eight eight standard text messaging rates apply
00:06:27in eighteen plus years as a pro fighter the old master future hall of famer james tony has never been
00:06:48more motivated never worked as hard for a fight than this one under the watchful eye renowned
00:06:53taibo fitness guru billy blanks he dramatically changed his diet had lima beans coming out of his
00:07:01ears did thousands of sit-ups hundreds of rounds of sparring miles of road work and as he put it lots
00:07:08of throwing up i hope he at least gets a free taibo video out of it but he went up a pound from the
00:07:15last fight to 234 he appears more fit and toned and al even though he he looks better are you
00:07:21concerned especially after such a rigorous camp he came in heavier than the first fight well i believe
00:07:27he did train hard and i believe he's in better shape than the first fight i would still like to
00:07:31see him 10 or 15 pounds less mostly for the speed it would help him bring to this rink but it's true
00:07:37that they did a lot of weight training and certainly muscle weighs more than fat it's not how you look as
00:07:42james tony tells you it's how you perform you know he's a guy who likes to kid around and be playful
00:07:46but as soon as the subject of sam peter comes up he is all business very serious he is still upset
00:07:54saying they stole that one and now he will teach peter a blessing
00:08:00real big fight atmosphere here tonight as mentioned earlier it is not a championship fight but certainly
00:08:09carries the aura of what a lot of celebrities and luminaries in the crowd
00:08:13and from the small town of aqua bomb nigeria where he started out boxing bare-fisted and
00:08:32barefoot on dirt and rock massively filled sam peter a devout christian who doesn't drink or
00:08:39smoke peter a slight favorite still bitter that he has to do this again with tony this time he says
00:08:47it will not land in the judge's hands he'll leave absolutely no doubt but no easy feat knowing tony
00:08:53has never been stopped how pivotal is it al that peter vigorously stepped up his training for this
00:08:59fight you know much has been made of james tony's conditioning but peter has had his issues with
00:09:05training and preparation for fights and i think his commitment to this match has probably been his
00:09:10best ever and let me say this he needed that this could come down to the area of conditioning
00:09:17and who has the energy to throw more punches and one last point before the fight about the judges peter
00:09:24said he's not worried about a possible backlash because tony simply won't be able to take his
00:09:30punches or be able to finish the fight to say sam peter is supremely confident is an understatement
00:09:47as we size them up let's go to the tail of the tape and the numbers favor peter he's 12 years younger
00:09:54than tony peter listed at 26 but there are rumors he's older the two and a half inch edge in height
00:10:01for sam and a five inch reach advantage and at the way in two days ago peter outweighed tony by 15 pounds
00:10:07249 to 234 a reminder peter dropping eight pounds tony won more than in the first fight and the key unified
00:10:15rules no standing eight count no three knockdown rule a fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round
00:10:21if an accidental headbutt causes a fight to end within four rounds it's a no decision after four rounds
00:10:26they go to the scorecards if a punch causes a cut and the injured fighter can't continue he loses by tko

00:15:34currently ranked the number two heavyweight by the WBC. Introducing, the one and only, James
00:15:43Leicao Tony!
00:15:53And his opponent across the ring on my left, fighting out of the red corner, wearing white trunks,
00:15:59fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada, by way of Akwaibom, Nigeria. He weighed in at 249 pounds,
00:16:06his fine record stands at 27 wins, only one defeat, with 22 wins coming by, way up knockout,
00:16:14recognized in the top five by all sanctioning bodies. He is currently ranked the number one heavyweight
00:16:21contender by the WBC. He is known as the Nigerian Nightmare. Introducing, Samuel Peter!
00:16:38Once again, a referee in charge, Jorge Alonso.
00:16:42Peter, Tony, we spoke to you in the dressing room earlier today. Let me remind you,
00:16:47do not hit your opponents in the back of the head. Do not hit your opponents in the back.
00:16:51Okay? This is good here. This is good here. I want you to protect yourself at all times,
00:16:57and obey my instructions, and follow my commands at all times. Any questions from this side?
00:17:02Any questions from this side? Touch him up. No, no, we're going to touch him up,
00:17:05and then we're going to come out. All right.
00:17:15And let's take a look at the text message results.
00:17:18We draw your eyes to the most popular result, Tony, by decision, 35%.
00:17:25That's what the fans who called in think of the outcome.
00:17:28Amazing that 31% said Tony by KO. That surprises me.
00:17:34That perhaps the least expected scenario. Peter, of course, known for his power and pressure,
00:17:38and those words from Jorge Alonso were a message to the Nigerian Nightmare
00:17:43about clubbing to the back of the head. There's no question about that.
00:17:46Something he has been guilty of. Here we go.
00:17:50And James Tony, the way he turns his head and turns his body,
00:17:53sometimes kind of invites that, and that happened in the last fight.
00:17:56Sam Peter in the white, James Tony in the green.
00:17:59In the first fight, Peter able to do something not often seen against Tony.
00:18:04Tony got hit by a lot of right hands, and that of particular concern
00:18:09to Tony's trainer, Freddie Roach, because of the fact
00:18:12Peter doesn't exactly have blazing speed with his hands.
00:18:15Tony, of course, a defensive master precision counterpuncher,
00:18:19was hurt for the first time in his illustrious career by Peter.
00:18:24Hey, early in this fight already there's a message.
00:18:26Sam Peter's thrown more punches in the first 40 seconds of this fight
00:18:30than I would expect in the first round.
00:18:32He is going after Tony, and whether he can sustain it, that's another question.
00:18:36But boy, he's throwing a lot of good jabs and a lot of punches.
00:18:39I was just about to say, if Peter keeps throwing and stays busy,
00:18:43it could be a huge factor in this fight tonight.
00:18:51Long right hand that's scored by Peter.
00:18:55The Tony jab has not been there yet.
00:18:59Very awkward beginnings for James Tony, it really is.
00:19:03Yeah, this time, will he be able to make Peter miss with the right
00:19:07and come back with the right of his own?
00:19:09A signature for Tony.
00:19:11And Tony in that first fight was just too squared up.
00:19:14And there's one thing about Tony, there's no question about his head movement,
00:19:18it's the legs.
00:19:26There's that right hand, and that stunts James Tony.
00:19:28James Tony early is rocked.
00:19:31Bounces off the ropes.
00:19:36That was a warning for hitting on the back of the head,
00:19:39so Jorge Alonso saying those punches landed on the back of the head.
00:19:46Right hand by Tony, hammering away,
00:19:48perhaps sensing the urgency here in the first round.
00:19:51He knows he's got to get Sam Peter's attention earlier,
00:19:54and he's going to get whacked.
00:19:55And then the jab getting in there by Sam Peter.
00:19:58What a start for Peter.
00:20:00Missing with that right hand.
00:20:02Missing again with the right hand.
00:20:04A grazing blow.
00:20:05That's the signature move Tony had in the first fight.
00:20:08When, again, he did it.
00:20:09When Peter misses with the right hand, he counters with the right.
00:20:12Peter is trying to end this on one punch.
00:20:15It is quite obvious.
00:20:17But a lot of his punches are wide looping,
00:20:20and it gives Tony a chance to get out of the way.
00:20:22But one of them got in, and it stunned Tony.
00:20:26Now Peter going back to the jab.
00:20:33Tony trying to get his footing.
00:20:36Get his footing.
00:20:37Again, Peter missing with the long right hand.
00:20:39What's the low, low?
00:20:40What's the low, low?
00:20:41What's the low, low?
00:20:43Come on now.
00:20:44Get out of there.
00:20:45So Sam Peter getting off to a much busier start.
00:20:49Then you win a matchup.
00:20:56How you feel, baby?
00:20:58Good.
00:20:59Good.
00:21:00All right.
00:21:01Is that bucket, Jimmy?
00:21:02Give me that bucket.
00:21:03Give me that bucket.
00:21:04Give me, give me, give me.
00:21:06All right, man.
00:21:07It's relaxing.
00:21:08Do what you do now.
00:21:09Well, James Tony got hurt in round one.
00:21:12It was an overhand right that landed.
00:21:15That hurt him.
00:21:17Then, as Peter came in, and from that punch,
00:21:21you see how those right hands are landing on the top of the head of Tony.
00:21:25Tony complaining to Jorge Alonso,
00:21:29which will lead to a warning by Alonso to Sam Peter.
00:21:33Now, some of those right's fine,
00:21:36but there's one on the side of the head,
00:21:40and there's one on the back of the head,
00:21:42and that's, I think, what Alonso noticed,
00:21:44and that's what provoked the warning by Jorge Alonso.
00:21:47It's funny.
00:21:49The referee in the first fight, Raul Caiz Sr.,
00:21:52was telling James Tony,
00:21:56don't put your head into Sam Peter's punches.
00:21:59That's a part of the problem,
00:22:00but in this case...
00:22:01There goes Tony.
00:22:03Down for the first time since 1994
00:22:06against Roy Jones.
00:22:08By a jab.
00:22:10And...
00:22:11How you doing, James?
00:22:1212 seconds into the round,
00:22:13a jab putting James Tony on the canvas.
00:22:16He was rocked in the first,
00:22:18and now he's down in the second.
00:22:20And when you don't have leg movement,
00:22:30as Tony doesn't really,
00:22:32it becomes an issue now,
00:22:34because you've got a big powerful man banging on you.
00:22:36Can Sam Peter live up to his way
00:22:38of knocking out James Tony?
00:22:40He's off to a fantastic start.
00:22:42And Tony has a long way to go here.
00:22:47Two minutes in round two,
00:22:48and Peter's landing with those heavy lights,
00:22:50missing with the left hook.
00:22:52Whizzing by Tony.
00:22:55Tony wants to warm against the ropes there,
00:22:57but he didn't get too much done, did James Tony.
00:22:59Uh-uh, no post, no post.
00:23:01Come on, come on. Let him go, Tony. Let him go, Tony.
00:23:05As Tony gets older, he gets more hittable,
00:23:08and that is quite evident here.
00:23:11And Sam Peter has straightened out his punches a lot.
00:23:14He started doing it in the last fight,
00:23:16and he's doing it here.
00:23:25Will youth be served here tonight?
00:23:29The left hand there by Tony.
00:23:31He's stuck that one into the head.
00:23:32So far the jab of Tony, there's a good one.
00:23:34Hasn't been as active as he was in the first fight.
00:23:39Now Tony, remember, usually very good off the ropes.
00:23:42He likes this.
00:23:43Let's see if he can get the job done.
00:23:45There's a right hand at the top of Tony's head.
00:23:49Another clubbing right hand near the back
00:23:51getting the warning from Jorge Alonso.
00:23:54Peter's keeping his distance here,
00:23:56and that's why Tony can't get to him.
00:23:59Brilliant fighting by Sam Peter.
00:24:01He's not getting close enough where Tony can counter him.
00:24:03There's a left jab.
00:24:05There's a jab by Tony.
00:24:07And he gets off the ropes now.
00:24:09Tony with the jab again.
00:24:12The big headline of this fight to me is the Sam Peter jab,
00:24:20which he used fairly effectively in the last fight,
00:24:22but it is much better in this fight.
00:24:28Again, even punches that aren't flushed by Sam Peter
00:24:31can be very effective.
00:24:34Left hand by Tony.
00:24:37Another left hand by Tony.
00:24:38Clown a little more behind Tony,
00:24:40even though Peter has fought here in Florida several times.
00:24:43Another left hand by Tony.
00:24:45And Tony says, all right, come on.
00:24:48Oh, and a big right hand to the head at the bell by Peter.
00:24:51And Tony with some bravado.
00:24:54Sam Peter's jab, is it good?
00:25:10Yeah, I guess so.
00:25:11Scored a knockdown in the last round, sending Tony off balance.
00:25:16Now, Tony's footwork has not been stellar in this fight,
00:25:18and that's part of the reason why he was knocked down by that jab.
00:25:23There.
00:25:24It wasn't even the best jab that Peter has thrown,
00:25:26but it caught Tony squaring up and going backwards.
00:25:30And by the way, Tony told us he doesn't want to square up
00:25:33in this fight as much as he did in the last fight,
00:25:35and he did here, and that's why he got knocked down with the jab.
00:25:37Look, he's totally squared up to Sam Peter
00:25:39and had no balance and just went straight backwards.
00:25:49So we begin round three, scheduled for 12.
00:25:54An excellent start for Peter, but Tony coming on in the last round.
00:26:00Oh, big right hand by James Tony over the top.
00:26:14But did Peter even flinch?
00:26:16The problem with this fight is, and that is an indication of it,
00:26:20James Tony, I don't believe, is going to be able to hurt Sam Peter.
00:26:24Maybe he can as the fight wears on.
00:26:26The problem is if it's a slugfest, oh, wow.
00:26:29What a right hand by Tony.
00:26:31That's finding a home on the head of Peter,
00:26:33but Peter's like a rock.
00:26:35Great punch, but Sam Peter went nowhere.
00:26:38Body shot by Peter.
00:26:40Again, Tony fighting off the ropes where he likes to be,
00:26:44but it could be dangerous against this guy.
00:26:46Tony with a wild swing and a miss.
00:26:48Ah, ah, ah. Don't grab that. Don't grab that hit.
00:26:50Tony's made some inroads with those right hands, though.
00:26:53There's no question about it,
00:26:54and has slightly changed the tenor of this round.
00:26:57Yeah, Peter a little more cautious now.
00:27:00Now, round six of the first fight, Tony believes he had Peter hurt,
00:27:03and feels he missed an opportunity there.
00:27:06Tony is just swinging for the fences here.
00:27:09Tony's having a much better round.
00:27:11The jab is getting in from time to time.
00:27:13Well, it's less risky for Peter to fight Tony's fight
00:27:16than for Tony to fight Peter's.
00:27:18Yeah, you're right.
00:27:20Very dangerous strategy here by James Tony, but...
00:27:28Danger is his middle name.
00:27:30Boy, and he is just tough as nails.
00:27:32He's in there against a guy 100 pounds bigger
00:27:35than people he started fighting with
00:27:37when he became a professional,
00:27:38and he is trading punches and landing big right hands.
00:27:41And he's loving this. You know it.
00:27:43Another right hand over the top by Tony.
00:27:47Keep it backing up. Don't wait on him.
00:27:49Don't wait on him.
00:27:51Don't wait on him.
00:27:53See, this is where Sam Peter gets a little tentative,
00:27:56doesn't throw punches, and potentially allows a round
00:27:59to slip away.
00:28:02Tony's not that busy himself right now,
00:28:04but he was busier earlier.
00:28:08And once again, you have to wonder about the conditioning
00:28:10factor for each.
00:28:13Body shot there to the side by Peter.
00:28:16Tony missing with the right hand.
00:28:18Peter comes back with a short run.
00:28:20You know, Sam Peter doesn't have much of an uppercut normally.
00:28:23They've added that for this fight.
00:28:25Every time we see him fight now,
00:28:26starting with that last fight,
00:28:27he adds more to his arsenal.
00:28:29New co-trainer Stacy McKinley, they say,
00:28:31has made a difference.
00:28:37Bono seconds of round three.
00:28:39Close round in which Peter has come back a bit.
00:28:47Came up short on that one, Peter.
00:28:50How do you score that one?
00:28:54You're working good, okay?
00:28:56He done stopped fighting and started to toughen.
00:28:57Okay, listen.
00:28:58You're on your flat feet.
00:28:59Get up off your flat feet
00:29:00so you can get on the balls of your feet.
00:29:01Then you'll be a little more quicker
00:29:03because you're feeling a little tired
00:29:04you're going back on your flat feet.
00:29:05Well, James Tony landed some superb right hands.
00:29:07Tough to move, Sam Peter.
00:29:09Tony, of course, coming up in weight,
00:29:11up, up, up in weight.
00:29:12So he's not a monstrous puncher as a heavyweight.
00:29:24But that's a perfect right hand.
00:29:26And look at Peter getting ready to try and counter him.
00:29:28But there were a number of right hands that landed for Tony
00:29:30in a round that he may very well have won.
00:29:33Now, there was a good right hand by Tony,
00:29:35and there's that little uppercut by Sam Peter
00:29:37when Tony leaves his head exposed.
00:29:41This is turning into a fascinating match.
00:29:43Well, they said in the first fight,
00:29:44judges were influenced by punching power over punch volume,
00:29:48but who would have thought it would have been Tony's
00:29:50punching power here in the rematch?
00:29:53He landed some big right hands on Peter.
00:29:58I think I would have given that last round to Tony.
00:30:00Yeah, by a small margin.
00:30:02I gave it to Tony.
00:30:04So that's one of those rounds that are close,
00:30:07and we'll see how they go.
00:30:08Left-right combination upstairs by Tony,
00:30:11showing some hand speed there.
00:30:13Another jab that got in by James Tony,
00:30:16then pushed back by a jab by Peter.
00:30:18Good left-right combination upstairs again
00:30:20by the busier James Tony all of a sudden.
00:30:25Now, Peter's following him against the ropes.
00:30:27Let's see if Tony can make something happen here.
00:30:29He wants him there.
00:30:32Normally, fighters not successful off the ropes.
00:30:35Tony the exception.
00:30:38How busy can Tony be on the inside?
00:30:40Let's be honest.
00:30:41He's still carrying some weight.
00:30:43So is he in a position to keep punching
00:30:45throughout all these rounds?
00:30:48Well, something hasn't changed Tony's eye, I think.
00:30:50Rubbing his eye.
00:30:51He's trying to wave something.
00:30:56Tony stiff-arming Peter,
00:30:58and then a clubbing right hand by Peter
00:31:02to the top of Tony's head.
00:31:04And then we saw Tony come back
00:31:06with his own right after that.
00:31:07So this is a round in which Peter's off
00:31:09to a fairly good start,
00:31:10even though Tony has landed some good counter-punches.
00:31:12Tony does look better, but still has the spare tire.
00:31:15It's obvious.
00:31:18Peter looks the better of the team.
00:31:21One of the issues was,
00:31:22would Peter be able to defend against the Tony jab?
00:31:25Well, he's not going to hit with as many jabs
00:31:27by Tony in this fight.
00:31:28And there's a left-right combination.
00:31:30Another shot by Tony that got through.
00:31:33And the double jab by Sam Peter,
00:31:38trying to set up that big right.
00:31:40Right uppercut missing by what looks to be now
00:31:44a bit of a frustrated Peter.
00:31:46He's a little less precise with his punches
00:31:48than he was in the first couple of rounds.
00:31:52Tony just pulled back with that right hand
00:31:54at the last second.
00:31:55No holding, no holding, let him go.
00:31:57Under a minute remaining in round four.
00:31:59It's a pretty good two-way action.
00:32:01And another round in which I believe
00:32:04maybe Sam Peter has been lethargic enough
00:32:07to let this round slip through his hands.
00:32:09Again, a fairly close round.
00:32:11We'll see what happens in the remaining seconds.
00:32:13Not as if Tony's been super active,
00:32:16but he's been a little bit more active than Sam Peter.
00:32:19We saw Peter run out of some gas in the middle of the first fight
00:32:23and then had a second win.
00:32:26And remember the last fight in which the last 30 or 40 seconds
00:32:29were dominated by Peter?
00:32:30Well, here he goes again.
00:32:32He stole a lot of rounds that way.
00:32:34Peter coming on and being waved in by Tony Al.
00:32:37There's a good double left jab by James Tony.
00:32:42Tony fighting up the rope, but Peter's getting the better of him.
00:32:45Back comes Tony with the left hook.
00:32:49Oh, great action.
00:32:53How's that?
00:32:58How you feel, son?
00:33:00Alright, you did.
00:33:04What we're talking about how you feel.
00:33:06Good.
00:33:14Paint the pitching man, paint the pitching.
00:33:15You good?
00:33:16Perfect, baby.
00:33:17Lights the back of the head, bro.
00:33:19All right, James.
00:33:22And the combination was rough here.
00:33:24Of course, if it isn't rough enough in that ring,
00:33:26here we'll see a clash of heads.
00:33:30Tony actually initiating a little bit more,
00:33:32although I don't know if it was intentional,
00:33:34but his head banged against Sam Peter.
00:33:36He ended around a fantastic exchange,
00:33:39and Peter trying to do what he did so often in the last round.
00:33:42There's the jab by Tony,
00:33:43trying to win the last 30 seconds of a round
00:33:45to steal it, if you will.
00:33:47And he was very aggressive.
00:33:49Now, both men landed good punches at the end.
00:33:51The question is,
00:33:52who did they think got the better of these exchanges?
00:33:55A very close round.
00:33:57And now round five schedules for 12.
00:33:59Sam Peter in the white.
00:34:01James Tony in the green.
00:34:03Right hand there.
00:34:05That's scored by Peter.
00:34:06Oh!
00:34:07After a shot by Tony,
00:34:08a big right hand by Peter.
00:34:10Another right hand by Peter.
00:34:12And now Tony trying to hold him.
00:34:14Says something.
00:34:15You know, James Tony is working the body more now
00:34:20in these last couple rounds.
00:34:21We'll see if that pays him any dividends.
00:34:24There he goes again to the body.
00:34:26James Tony.
00:34:27Don't hold him.
00:34:28Don't hold him.
00:34:29Trying to make Peter think and work,
00:34:31trying to frustrate him,
00:34:32tire him out for the later rounds, perhaps.
00:34:35You know, the first two rounds look like
00:34:37Sam Peter was going to walk through Tony.
00:34:39And it hasn't been quite so.
00:34:41Beautiful uppercut by Peter, though.
00:34:44Tony, as he's walking away,
00:34:46scores with a white.
00:34:48A right upstairs.
00:34:53So crafty.
00:34:55So ring-sabi.
00:34:56Trying every trick in the book.
00:34:57He's got Sam Peter thinking a little bit more,
00:35:02but that's a beautiful right by Peter.
00:35:05It landed squarely on the head.
00:35:08There's another right hand
00:35:09to the head of Tony.
00:35:11Tony trying to cover up on the ropes.
00:35:13This time not effective off the ropes.
00:35:15It's all Peter.
00:35:17Fire in the way.
00:35:21Tony trying to roll with the punches.
00:35:23So the impact is it was big.
00:35:27Step back, step back, step back.
00:35:28You know part of the problem,
00:35:29when he was fighting middleweights
00:35:30and light heavyweights,
00:35:31he could roll that way,
00:35:32and those big bombs didn't hurt him so much.
00:35:34The big man hits you at heart from there.
00:35:36And we look at the press roll scoring,
00:35:38all for Peter.
00:35:39Biggest margin, Dan Redfield on ESPN.com.
00:35:44I've got it 39-37 for Peter.
00:35:47Dan had Peter winning the first fight.
00:35:49And it was a highly debatable fight.
00:35:54Left-right combination there by Peter.
00:35:58Tony's left eye looks to be damaged.
00:36:07Sam Peter landing some big clubbing punches in this round.
00:36:11Oh, there's a big left hook to the head by Sam Peter.
00:36:19That got Tony's attention.
00:36:32Yeah, Tony's left eye beginning to close.
00:36:36Swell, very swollen now.
00:36:38Just got a good look at it, not looking good.
00:36:43You know, Sam Peter doesn't have to worry
00:36:44about getting hurt right now.
00:36:45That's why he can walk right in.
00:36:49Time!
00:37:00How do you feel?
00:37:01Good, man.
00:37:02Water.
00:37:03Okay.
00:37:03At the beginning of the last round,
00:37:17these two men went at it.
00:37:20Tony came out.
00:37:21He did a no-no trying to land the left hook
00:37:23in the middle of the ring.
00:37:24A mistake by him.
00:37:25He's always countered when he does that.
00:37:27And those little short right hands getting there.
00:37:28Although, Tony did some good work himself.
00:37:32Tony leaps out with the hook,
00:37:34gets clubbed with the right hand.
00:37:35That one was kind of on the back of the head.
00:37:37But, of course, James Tony turned that way.
00:37:40And that set the tone for the round.
00:37:41Peter really landing some powerful punches
00:37:44during the course of round number five.
00:37:46Let's go.
00:37:52It is round six scheduled for 12
00:37:54in a WBC heavyweight elimination fight.
00:37:57The winner to get a shot at the WBC title,
00:38:00currently owned by Oleg Moskiv.
00:38:05A fight from close range,
00:38:07and it's hard body shots by Peter.
00:38:09Great work.
00:38:10Tony's trying to claim one was low,
00:38:11maybe a little, but I'll tell you what.
00:38:13Those were excellent body shots by Sam Peter.
00:38:15Peter said he would have a better volume of punches
00:38:19in this fight.
00:38:20And for the most part, that has been true.
00:38:23Peter is showing that he is in good shape.
00:38:29Tony bouncing around, flicking the jab.
00:38:32But that's not going to do much against Sam Peter.
00:38:36Even his biggest right hand
00:38:38didn't make Peter flinch.
00:38:41Now, the Tony jab starting to kind of reassert itself
00:38:45a little bit in this round.
00:38:47Come on, come on, guys.
00:38:48Work out of there.
00:38:48Work out of there.
00:38:49Work out of there.
00:38:50Peter has never been down cold or amateur.
00:38:55Tony down for the third time in his career,
00:38:57back in round two, off the jab.
00:38:59I think the right hand stunned James Tony there for a moment.
00:39:07Peter pressing the attack.
00:39:10And then backs off.
00:39:11And what I like that Sam Peter is doing
00:39:14when Tony gets against the ropes,
00:39:16he's fighting tall.
00:39:18And against the smaller Tony, that's what to do.
00:39:21And Tony can't counter you.
00:39:22Use the jab as Peter is doing now
00:39:24and creating space.
00:39:26And then Tony can't punch off those ropes.
00:39:28It's a very smart strategy.
00:39:32Peter just missing with a right and a left.
00:39:35And a right hand at the end of that sequence by Peter.
00:39:45That's this fight in microcosm.
00:39:47A big punch by Tony.
00:39:49It meant nothing.
00:39:50And Peter went after him.
00:39:51Wow.
00:39:52Peter countering the collar puncher
00:39:54and very effectively.
00:39:57If James Tony was fighting a cruiserweight right now,
00:39:59he would have won by knockout.
00:40:01But he's not.
00:40:02Those big punches are not getting Peter hurt.
00:40:07And now James Tony's lip beginning to bleed.
00:40:11He's got problems with the left eye and the lip.
00:40:15Peter has only been truly hurt one time in his career
00:40:18when Vladimir Klitschko hit him with that monstrous left hook.
00:40:21And he did not go down.
00:40:25And Klitschko, of course, a very big puncher.
00:40:29Peter putting Klitschko down three times,
00:40:32although he ran out of gas
00:40:33and lost the fight to Vladimir.
00:40:38Come on, come on.
00:40:39Get out of there.
00:40:41Peter able to unleash a shot just after the Klitsch.
00:40:49Sam Peter always throws more punches at the end of the run.
00:40:52Tony has something to say to Sam.
00:40:55Tony thinking it was a late shot.
00:40:59Wild card Saturday in the afternoon game.
00:41:01Indianapolis beating Kansas City 23 to 8.
00:41:06The Colts dominating defense, forcing three turnovers
00:41:08and held the Chiefs to just 126 yards.
00:41:12And Seattle gets by Dallas in the NFC game, 21 to 20, both finals.
00:41:17Late rally by the Seahawks.
00:41:19James Toney working to the body and to the head.
00:41:33Sam Peter works upstairs, then downstairs.
00:41:42That's the double-leck hook from James Toney.
00:41:44That's a terrific punch.
00:41:45But guess what?
00:41:46He gets nailed with the right hand right afterwards by Sam Peter.
00:41:50That punch just didn't hurt Peter.
00:41:52Tony's M.O., I'm sure, going in partly was to try and frustrate
00:42:02and discourage Sam Peter.
00:42:04But it seems to be now the other way around
00:42:06because Tony is throwing everything with such power behind it.
00:42:13And it doesn't seem to be having much effect on the massive Sam Peter.
00:42:19This is, to me, it's a fascinating fight
00:42:22because we're seeing elements of the first fight
00:42:25and yet there are clearly differences here.
00:42:28Sam Peter just can't be hurt by Tony.
00:42:31And that is the big story at this juncture.
00:42:34And he's busier.
00:42:35And those two factors are enough to give him the edge in this fight.
00:42:41Well, one of the improvements of Sam Peter in that first fight
00:42:46was his technical skills, his counterpunching, his jab.
00:42:49As you look at press row, continues to be all old Peter.
00:42:54Again, the biggest disparity, Dan Raphael.
00:42:57And he is picking up with a left off.
00:43:00There's a good left hook that sent Tony back.
00:43:04And Peter's jab doing a nice job throughout here.
00:43:07And, of course, the big overhand right as well.
00:43:13Let's go start that holding now.
00:43:14And counterpunching Tony nicely too.
00:43:16Let your hands go, Sam.
00:43:18Let your hands go on the other side.
00:43:19Sam, come on.
00:43:22So right now, while there was a lot of doubt in that first fight,
00:43:25there doesn't seem to be much doubt at all as to who is ahead here.
00:43:30There is Tony.
00:43:30You know, Tony can't resist throwing the hook
00:43:33because it can't land against Peter.
00:43:34But more often than not,
00:43:36when he throws that punch anywhere but off the ropes,
00:43:38it gets him in trouble.
00:43:39Peter counters with the right hand or with his own hook.
00:43:45It's a real conundrum for James Tony.
00:43:47The only thing that could make this work for him
00:43:50is if he was busy enough to win these rounds.
00:43:52But honestly, James Tony hasn't been able to be busy
00:43:55for 12 full rounds for a long time
00:43:57in the heavyweight division
00:43:59since he fought Evander Holyfield.
00:44:00Oh, puncher, get out of there.
00:44:02And that's an issue for him.
00:44:04He's not going to win by knockout as a heavyweight.
00:44:06He has to throw punches.
00:44:08And a lot of them.
00:44:10In the first fight,
00:44:12it felt to many of us that he threw enough.
00:44:14And not so much the stuff.
00:44:15Punches seem to be getting to James Tony
00:44:18in terms of his stamina.
00:44:20He looks a little tired and worn out, fatigued.
00:44:23And a big right cross to the head by Peter.
00:44:27And Tony just stands there.
00:44:30The Tony jab while it has reemerged,
00:44:32I don't know if it's been enough to win these rounds for him.
00:44:38Once again, the more powerful, heavier punches
00:44:41being offered up by Peter.
00:44:45But he's doing more.
00:44:46It's not only that.
00:44:48He's also scoring with the jab.
00:44:50He's doing it with technique as well.
00:44:51Well, celebrity Taibo instructor Billy Blanks
00:44:59working the corner along with Freddie Roach
00:45:02for James Tony brought in to improve,
00:45:04among other things,
00:45:05Tony's diet keeping him to about 1,500 calories per day.
00:45:09Tony did not actually do Taibo.
00:45:12Blanks almost got into it
00:45:13with Peter's co-trainer Stacy McKinley
00:45:15at the press conference the other day.
00:45:16McKinley unleashed some insults to Blanks.
00:45:20I wouldn't mess with either one of them.
00:45:23You're working on the inside.
00:45:26All right, let me relax on the inside.
00:45:28You have to fire that combination, okay?
00:45:30All right, son?
00:45:31Get to fire that combination, okay?
00:45:32Don't relax me.
00:45:33Fire the body and then finish with the hook to the head, okay?
00:45:36Bang, bang, bang.
00:45:37Finish this son of a bitch, okay?
00:45:39And here, we'll be hiding the points
00:45:40and you'll pick it up a little bit, okay, son?
00:45:42Come on, man.
00:45:43I'll let him back in this round, all right?
00:45:44Tell him on the ropes.
00:45:46All right, give me a time.
00:45:48And when you get him on the ropes, turn left hand.
00:45:51Championship big-time atmosphere here
00:45:53at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida.
00:45:57Steve Alvin along with Al Bernstein, Jim Gray,
00:45:59Karen Bryan, our Showtime crew,
00:46:01happy to have you with us for the rematch
00:46:03between Sam Peter and the White,
00:46:05James Tony in the Green.
00:46:06It is round eight scheduled for 12
00:46:08in this WBC heavyweight title eliminator.
00:46:11And Sam Peter continues to control the action.
00:46:13There's a left and a heavy right.
00:46:16Big left hook hurt Tony momentarily,
00:46:19and then the right hand came along.
00:46:23Don't push, don't push.
00:46:24You know, to show you how far Sam Peter has come,
00:46:27they told him if you get Tony hurt on the ropes,
00:46:29turn lefty, which he did earlier.
00:46:31That's a nuance that, trust me,
00:46:32Sam Peter wasn't going to be able to handle
00:46:34a year or two years ago.
00:46:35Watch your right hand.
00:46:36Come on, come on, come on, break.
00:46:38Come on, break.
00:46:39With all the big punches that Sam Peter has landed,
00:46:49the irony is that the only thing that put James Tony down
00:46:51was a jab that caught him off balance.
00:46:53Don't get that up, don't get that up.
00:46:54That is ironic, yes.
00:46:56Don't die up, don't die up.
00:46:57Come on, guys.
00:46:59You know, they sparred with Alicio Castillo,
00:47:02a Cuban fighter from this area
00:47:03who is a very clever and crafty defender,
00:47:06and I think that was a very good choice
00:47:07in sparring partners for Sam Peter.
00:47:09Both men becoming a little inactive here.
00:47:17Although there's the Peter jab.
00:47:18The double jab by Sam Peter.
00:47:23Peter, I'm sure, in his mind knows
00:47:25he's got a lot of rounds in the tank.
00:47:27So, getting a breather, a second wind.
00:47:33Freddie Roach, honest with James Tony,
00:47:35telling him we're behind on points.
00:47:36I never saw Freddie saw rah-rah
00:47:40entering that 12th round of the first fight
00:47:42when he knew, he kind of knew that Tony,
00:47:45it could have gone either way,
00:47:46and he said, you know what?
00:47:47Take it out of the judge's hands.
00:47:49Go knock Peter out.
00:47:50But, of course, Tony never did,
00:47:51and Peter won the split decision.
00:47:55Now, this is a round in which Peter got off
00:47:56to a very good start.
00:47:58Now, he's been pretty lethargic,
00:48:00not throwing too many punches.
00:48:02Tony hasn't exactly been a ball of fire,
00:48:04but he may be edging back into this round.
00:48:08But will Peter, as he always does,
00:48:10come on strong in the last 30 or 40 seconds?
00:48:12Tony has come to a grinding halt here,
00:48:15and this is where the conditioning,
00:48:16as we talked about so many times before the fight,
00:48:19could be factoring in.
00:48:21Don't pull the head.
00:48:22Don't pull the head.
00:48:22Stop.
00:48:23I got it.
00:48:23Hey, hey, don't pull the head, all right?
00:48:25Let's go.
00:48:26Jorge Alonso cautioning Sam Peter
00:48:29not to pull Tony's head down.
00:48:34This is one of the few rounds
00:48:35where Peter has been moving backwards
00:48:37at the end of the round,
00:48:38but there, again, he's aggressive.
00:48:39And some pretty good hand speed there
00:48:42offered up by Sam Peter.
00:48:44Always more punches from Peter
00:48:46in the last 30 seconds,
00:48:47every single time.
00:48:48Sam Peter doing a good job there
00:48:50with the right hand,
00:48:50and generally doing a good job
00:48:52of shortening up his punches.
00:49:02Spit that out.
00:49:05Spit it out.
00:49:07All right, James.
00:49:08You're letting him steal the round
00:49:09the last 10 seconds, son.
00:49:11All right?
00:49:11You can't do that.
00:49:13All right?
00:49:14The 10-second bell goes off.
00:49:15You got to be...
00:49:16not letting me get the combination off.
00:49:17You got to get yours off.
00:49:18You hear me, son?
00:49:19All right?
00:49:21Yeah.
00:49:21How you feeling, man?
00:49:23Fast lane, Jimmy.
00:49:25John.
00:49:26That's good.
00:49:26Come on.
00:49:27Move them legs.
00:49:27Move them hands, man.
00:49:28That guy just stuck up
00:49:29on left hook, James.
00:49:30Just stuck up on left hook.
00:49:31James.
00:49:32When he's relaxing,
00:49:33when he's having bang, bang, bang.
00:49:34Sam Peter doing what Freddie Roach
00:49:37just said and what I suggested,
00:49:38probably going a long way,
00:49:40or Sam Peter going a long way
00:49:42towards stealing that round.
00:49:46And he was active at the end
00:49:47the last 10 seconds.
00:49:48He's always active, Peter,
00:49:49in the last 30 seconds.
00:49:50He was getting instructions,
00:49:54James Toney from both sides.
00:49:56And Billy Blanks saying
00:49:58he's a sucker for a left hook,
00:50:00meaning Sam Peter.
00:50:01I don't think Billy Blanks is there
00:50:02to give technical advice
00:50:04and scoring.
00:50:04And by the way,
00:50:05with all due respect,
00:50:06that's not the punch
00:50:07James Toney's supposed to be throwing.
00:50:08And then Freddie Roach said
00:50:09to get him on the inside.
00:50:13Not that Billy Blanks hasn't done boxing,
00:50:15but he's there for conditioning.
00:50:20So round nine, scheduled for 12.
00:50:24Sam Peter in command,
00:50:26wearing the white trunks,
00:50:27looking to make it two for two
00:50:28over James Toney.
00:50:29Let him go, let him go, let him go.
00:50:30Break!
00:50:32Step back, step back, both of you.
00:50:33Step back, step back, step back.
00:50:34Good combination on the inside
00:50:48by Tony.
00:50:49And of course,
00:50:50he needs much more of that.
00:50:51That's what he should have been doing
00:50:52or if he could
00:50:53throughout this fight
00:50:54when he's on the inside.
00:50:55Now look at him.
00:50:55He wants Tony Peter
00:50:56to come to the ropes
00:50:57and Peter's like,
00:50:58oh, hell not good, man.
00:50:59Decisively in front
00:51:03is Sam Peter
00:51:04in the unofficial press row scoring.
00:51:08Santos Perez from the Miami Hall,
00:51:10Dan Raphael from ESPN.com
00:51:12has the widest margin.
00:51:14And Tim Smith from the New York Daily News.
00:51:16I have it 79-73 for Samuel Peter.
00:51:19Sam looking for reaffirmation here
00:51:22after winning the first fight
00:51:24in hotly disputed, debatable
00:51:26this controversial fashion.
00:51:33And tonight he wanted to make a point.
00:51:35Of course, he still wants to knock Tony out
00:51:37to really make a statement.
00:51:39But he is well ahead
00:51:41and well on his way to victory
00:51:43via points at this rate.
00:51:46Had Tony hurt early in the fight
00:51:48several times,
00:51:49couldn't really press the advantage
00:51:51as much as he would like.
00:51:52Had Tony down
00:51:53in the second round.
00:51:55Only the third time
00:51:56Tony's been down
00:51:57in his 18-plus year career
00:51:58from a left jab.
00:52:0012 seconds in a round, too.
00:52:02Nice right hand by Tony.
00:52:03You know, going to the body,
00:52:05he opened up that right hand.
00:52:07The jab to the body by Tony
00:52:09freezes Peter momentarily
00:52:11and opens up that right hand.
00:52:14Tony's left eye
00:52:15damaged, blood coming from the lip,
00:52:19inviting Peter in,
00:52:20but then gets away
00:52:21from the ropes now.
00:52:22Now he's trying to
00:52:22side Peter back
00:52:23towards the ropes,
00:52:25gets him with a left hook
00:52:25to the side of the head.
00:52:28Little smirk from there, James.
00:52:31He's not a one-sided round.
00:52:33This is a pretty close round,
00:52:35one in which Tony's got
00:52:36a little bit more done.
00:52:37Question is,
00:52:37did he get enough done
00:52:38to win it?
00:52:40A jab there.
00:52:41That's scored by Tony.
00:52:44Peter missing.
00:52:44Wilde with the left.
00:52:49Again, this is where Tony likes it.
00:52:51The bell sounds.
00:52:59Star-studded audience here tonight.
00:53:03I guess he can call this guy a heavyweight.
00:53:05Yeah, I'd say.
00:53:07He loves boxing.
00:53:08He really does.
00:53:09Shaq from the defending champion Miami
00:53:12hit some pretty good moves there.
00:53:18This guy's right hand
00:53:19is right around his ass, okay?
00:53:20You can land that left hook
00:53:21whenever you want, all right?
00:53:23Now let's go out there
00:53:24and show him, okay?
00:53:25I want you to go out there
00:53:26and throw that shot
00:53:27as hard as you can, okay?
00:53:28All right?
00:53:2910.
00:53:29We need these rounds.
00:53:32Let's go for him.
00:53:33All right?
00:53:33Is that eye okay?
00:53:34About here?
00:53:35Okay.
00:53:36Make sure.
00:53:37All right?
00:53:38Let's do it.
00:53:38Right here.
00:53:39You need to go out there
00:53:40and go for it for me, okay?
00:53:42All right?
00:53:42Fire that left hook
00:53:43with all your might, okay?
00:53:44You will knock him out
00:53:46with that left hook, okay?
00:53:47His right hand
00:53:48is right around his ass.
00:53:49Couldn't be more graphic
00:53:51with James Tony
00:53:52spitting blood
00:53:53into the bucket.
00:53:55Now that's interesting advice
00:53:56from Freddie Roach.
00:53:57We will see.
00:53:58I have to be honest.
00:54:00I think it's a very dangerous move
00:54:01for Tony,
00:54:02but maybe when you're
00:54:03in this position,
00:54:03you better try it.
00:54:05But when he's thrown
00:54:06those hooks in center ring,
00:54:08he's been countered
00:54:08in the last however many rounds,
00:54:11the last, you know,
00:54:1221 rounds they've fought.
00:54:14Now, meanwhile,
00:54:15in the Sam Peter corner,
00:54:17they were cheerleading.
00:54:20Sam saying he's only got
00:54:21nine more minutes.
00:54:24If he can just hold on
00:54:25and do what he's doing.
00:54:27He's got a shot
00:54:28at the top.
00:54:29Now, it's true
00:54:29Tony's landing those hooks.
00:54:33The question is,
00:54:34are they hard enough
00:54:34to hurt Peter
00:54:35and is that punch
00:54:36going to put him in danger?
00:54:37Nice jab.
00:54:38That jab is really
00:54:39getting in there.
00:54:41A couple of them
00:54:41by Peter.
00:54:43And, of course,
00:54:44that's the punch
00:54:45that put Tony down
00:54:47back in the second round.
00:54:48Tony, of course,
00:54:48will say it was a balanced shot,
00:54:50but it was a good jab.
00:54:52It's interesting,
00:54:52you know,
00:54:53both men using
00:54:53different gloves.
00:54:54Peter using the Reyes gloves,
00:54:56which we traditionally view
00:54:57as a puncher's glove.
00:54:58And Tony using...
00:55:00Don't pull it in, man.
00:55:02Yeah, it has something
00:55:03to do with the distribution
00:55:04of the padding.
00:55:06And...
00:55:07Boy, right now,
00:55:10James needs more
00:55:10than a pair of gloves.
00:55:12See?
00:55:12Yep.
00:55:12He threw the left hook
00:55:14and he got countered
00:55:14by Peter.
00:55:15And here's Peter
00:55:16with a series of left hands
00:55:19getting a rise
00:55:20from the crowd.
00:55:22How about Peter
00:55:23feigning being hurt?
00:55:25You know he's confident
00:55:26when Sam Peter
00:55:27who's not known
00:55:27for those kind of theatrics
00:55:29would go for him.
00:55:29Coming to James Toney,
00:55:31he's learned
00:55:32from the master.
00:55:33Yep.
00:55:34Well, he did say
00:55:35that even though
00:55:37there was a lot
00:55:38of consequences,
00:55:39a couple of shots
00:55:40had rocked.
00:55:41Tony, that...
00:55:43Tony made a bet.
00:55:43Hey, how about that move
00:55:44by Sam Peter?
00:55:46Well, in the combination
00:55:48punching before,
00:55:49it's certainly something
00:55:50that his corner
00:55:51likes to see.
00:55:52You know,
00:55:53if Sam Peter truly is,
00:55:55that's hard to hurt.
00:55:56Now, granted,
00:55:56Tony's not a big
00:55:57punching heavyweight,
00:55:58but as we pointed out,
00:55:59even Klitschko
00:56:00gained it in monstrous
00:56:01right hands
00:56:02and only hurt him
00:56:02once with a left hook.
00:56:04If you can't hurt
00:56:04Sam Peter,
00:56:05he's that kind of heavyweight.
00:56:07He's the David Chua
00:56:08kind of heavyweight
00:56:09that can't be hurt.
00:56:10He's getting his skill
00:56:11level built up.
00:56:12He's got a very tough
00:56:13man to deal with
00:56:14in the heavyweight division.
00:56:15All right.
00:56:15Now, Sam Peter
00:56:16is showing
00:56:17the boxing world
00:56:18that he is better
00:56:21for the heavyweight division
00:56:22than James Tawny
00:56:25unless Tawny can
00:56:26pull something out
00:56:27miraculous to him
00:56:28in the final few rounds.
00:56:32Of course,
00:56:33Peter's much younger
00:56:34and he's got something
00:56:37that fans love to see
00:56:39from the big men.
00:56:40Knockout power.
00:56:41But it's tough to not get
00:56:45an elusive guy,
00:56:47a guy who's such a defensive master
00:56:48like James Tawny.
00:56:51But he has dominated the fight,
00:56:53Sam Peter.
00:56:58Well, a tough night
00:56:59for James Tawny's wife,
00:57:01Angie, right here,
00:57:02lending her support.
00:57:04But you've got to wonder
00:57:05what's going through
00:57:06her mind right now.
00:57:12All right, James.
00:57:14I'll tell you
00:57:14a little second up here, son.
00:57:16All right.
00:57:21All right, James.
00:57:27Sam Peter
00:57:27throwing combinations
00:57:28which he's not known for.
00:57:30Now, that right hand,
00:57:32of course,
00:57:32was the best of those punches.
00:57:34And Pops Anderson
00:57:35made the point.
00:57:35The reason he's been able
00:57:36to land right hands
00:57:37against Tony
00:57:38is that he's consistent
00:57:39with that punch.
00:57:40And there's a move
00:57:41Sam Peter, I trust,
00:57:42has never made
00:57:43in his professional career.
00:57:47And the other thing
00:57:49that's made those right hands
00:57:50land is that Tony
00:57:51has squared himself up
00:57:53to Peter.
00:57:55So here we go
00:57:56into double-digit
00:57:5911 championship round.
00:58:07Let him go, let him go,
00:58:08let him go.
00:58:09One knockdown
00:58:10of the fight.
00:58:11Round two.
00:58:11Tony for the jab.
00:58:13Early in the round.
00:58:17All Peter has to do
00:58:25is hang on
00:58:26for just a few more minutes.
00:58:34For James Tony,
00:58:36the issue really is simple.
00:58:39He has been able
00:58:39to get some things done tonight
00:58:41as he always does.
00:58:42And his toughness
00:58:43is extraordinary
00:58:44to be standing in
00:58:45against a big
00:58:45punching heavyweight like this.
00:58:47But it's the same thing
00:58:48that's dogged him
00:58:49in the fight
00:58:50against Rahman.
00:58:51The last fight
00:58:53as we look at the scoring
00:58:54that is very dominant
00:58:55for Samuel and Peter.
00:58:57James Tony can't sustain
00:58:58the action
00:58:59over enough rounds
00:59:00to win a decision.
00:59:02Although, again,
00:59:03in the last Peter fight,
00:59:05many of us thought he did,
00:59:06but in this fight,
00:59:07he isn't.
00:59:10Peter coming on again.
00:59:12And he is showing
00:59:13his conditioning,
00:59:15his hard training
00:59:16paying off.
00:59:18Looking to finish strong,
00:59:19bouncing around,
00:59:20throwing
00:59:20more punches
00:59:23that people are used
00:59:24to seeing him throw.
00:59:25Much busier
00:59:26than in the past.
00:59:27And just a very good
00:59:29overall effort here
00:59:31by Sam and Peter
00:59:31all around.
00:59:34The other point
00:59:35that will harden
00:59:36his trainer,
00:59:37Popson Anderson
00:59:39and Stacey McKinley
00:59:40and Ivan Gatsov,
00:59:41Ivan Gatsov,
00:59:42his manager,
00:59:43is the fact that
00:59:45he's accurate.
00:59:46He's been accurate
00:59:47with punches.
00:59:49And that accuracy
00:59:50will serve him well
00:59:51obviously in any fight
00:59:53if, in fact,
00:59:54he gets Oleg Moskow
00:59:55next,
00:59:55and I should think
00:59:56he would,
00:59:57that accuracy
01:00:00will help him a lot.
01:00:06Well, coming in,
01:00:07Sam Peter
01:00:08was the slight favorite.
01:00:10But as far as
01:00:11the fans
01:00:11in the text messaging
01:00:13department,
01:00:14most thought
01:00:14that Tony would win
01:00:15this fight.
01:00:1666% in fact.
01:00:17Step back, step back.
01:00:20Only 7%
01:00:22had Peter
01:00:22winning by decision.
01:00:24And we thought
01:00:25after the first fight
01:00:26what a least expected
01:00:27scenario
01:00:27with Peter winning
01:00:28by decision.
01:00:30The other least expected
01:00:31scenario would be
01:00:32Tony by knockout.
01:00:34And that's what
01:00:35he's going to need
01:00:36to win this fight.
01:00:37Oh, on the break.
01:00:39Time.
01:00:40Time.
01:00:41Let's see what
01:00:41Jorge does.
01:00:43Don't do it again!
01:00:44It's gonna cost you a point.
01:00:45You hear me?
01:00:46No more!
01:00:47Time in!
01:00:48Good work by Ori Alonzo.
01:00:50No reason to take
01:00:51the point away
01:00:51at that juncture.
01:00:53Oh, look at Tony.
01:00:53He doesn't want
01:00:54to touch gloves.
01:00:56With Sam Peter.
01:00:58So Peter hitting
01:00:59after the break.
01:01:01And he jumps
01:01:02all over Tony.
01:01:03Time!
01:01:04Time!
01:01:04Time!
01:01:04Last round, touch gloves, okay?
01:01:31Because that's what he's been doing.
01:01:35He's trying to steal a fighter.
01:01:39Peter doing very well early in the round.
01:01:44Beautiful body punches,
01:01:45and that's a very nice combination from Sam Peter.
01:01:48That is something you would not have seen from him
01:01:50a year and a half or two years ago.
01:01:54This is where Peter hits on the break.
01:01:58These fighters are being broken by Jorge Alonso,
01:02:02and there's the uppercut by Sam Peter.
01:02:08As we enter the 12,
01:02:09will they touch gloves?
01:02:10Touch them up.
01:02:11Yeah, okay.
01:02:12Let's go.
01:02:12Shannon Briggs, who's in attendance,
01:02:14needed a last-minute knockout
01:02:16to win his heavyweight title.
01:02:17James Toney will likely need the same miracle here.
01:02:21Here we go.
01:02:22It has not been as competitive a fight
01:02:27as we saw in the first fight.
01:02:29It has been more one-sided
01:02:31for the Nigerian Nightmare in the white,
01:02:35Samuel Peter.
01:02:37There were bursts of great exchanges,
01:02:40but after a while,
01:02:42it settled in with Peter's really controlling thing.
01:02:45And right now,
01:02:51Sam Peter just seems comfortably ahead on points.
01:02:55James Toney is 4-1 in rematches,
01:02:58but in danger of being 4-2.
01:03:00That was a good right hand by James Toney.
01:03:02One of his best punches.
01:03:03Did that have an impact on Sam Peter?
01:03:05We'll see.
01:03:06Well, Peter, apparently not.
01:03:08He comes forward and jabs away.
01:03:09And a body shot by Peter.
01:03:13And a left hook followed by the right
01:03:14to the sides of Toney's head.
01:03:19One thing you've got to say about James Toney,
01:03:21he's a tough guy.
01:03:24He just stands in there.
01:03:25He takes the punishment.
01:03:27I mean, this is a guy that's fighting 160-pounders,
01:03:29then 175-pounders and cruiserweight.
01:03:32He's in against a monster.
01:03:33He's in against a big guy.
01:03:35So you have to give him credit for that, certainly.
01:03:38Taking some massive shots,
01:03:39and that includes the jab.
01:03:41Beautiful double left hook by Peter.
01:03:44He's on the cusp of becoming
01:03:46a really complete fighter, Sam Peter.
01:03:49And there were many that weren't sure that could happen.
01:03:52We started seeing traces of that in the first fight.
01:03:57And maybe it really is true
01:03:59that James Toney brings out the best
01:04:01in Samuel Peter, showing his promise.
01:04:05A moment ago after he landed that big combination,
01:04:07Tony retreated to the ropes.
01:04:09Peter just wouldn't follow.
01:04:10He said, why should I?
01:04:11Why should I walk in there and maybe get countered?
01:04:14Very smart fight by Peter.
01:04:15Under a minute remaining.
01:04:16Sam Peter may be 40 seconds away from a shot
01:04:27at the heavyweight title against Oleg Moskiev.
01:04:32That's if Moskiev doesn't decide
01:04:34or get a fight with Vladimir Klitschko.
01:04:41You certainly hate to see Peter,
01:04:43because while I thought that Tony won that first fight,
01:04:45I thought it was inappropriate by the WBC
01:04:47to order and mandate a rematch.
01:04:49You said if the guy won,
01:04:50he was going to get a title shot,
01:04:51and then you change your mind.
01:04:52Wrong.
01:04:53But it would be really a shame
01:04:55if Sam Peter did this out on a title shot after this.
01:04:57Well, he once said George Foreman
01:04:59just refused to do it.
01:05:01In an ordered rematch.
01:05:04Well, a piece of crowd on its feet,
01:05:07and Sam Peter dancing around
01:05:09in triumph.
01:05:14And a different story.
01:05:26A study and disappointment there in the Tony.
01:05:29Oh, boy.
01:05:31You piece of white, white.
01:05:32You piece of making complaint now.
01:05:34Make it complaint.
01:05:35Good boy.
01:05:36Good, baby.
01:05:37Master.
01:05:38Good boy, guys.
01:05:38Your best sight, man.
01:05:40I love your best sight.
01:05:42Oh, Sam.
01:05:43I love your best sight.
01:06:13No controversy tonight.
01:06:15We went on the jab count.
01:06:16We got the jab count.
01:06:17We wouldn't think, anyway.
01:06:18That would really be shocking.
01:06:20Samuel Peter doing exactly
01:06:21what he told us he would do.
01:06:23Excellent performance.
01:06:23Talk to me about your performance.
01:06:25Great.
01:06:25You see, it's great.
01:06:26You stole.
01:06:27I told him Muhammad Ali the last round.
01:06:28Yeah, yeah.
01:06:29That was Muhammad Ali.
01:06:30I told him Muhammad Ali.
01:06:31What's not wrong with that?
01:06:32How you, Biko?
01:06:33Now, you're great.
01:06:35Interesting to hear some of the comment.
01:06:37Very good fight.
01:06:37Very good.
01:06:38Very good.
01:06:38Well, there was one knockdown of this fight.
01:06:43James Toney going down for the first time in 13 years.
01:06:49And the irony is that it would come from a jab.
01:06:52James Toney kind of squares himself up here.
01:06:55Look at how off balance he is.
01:06:56That was the one thing he told us he didn't want to do
01:06:58is square himself up.
01:06:59He did it.
01:07:00He did it repeatedly in this fight,
01:07:02and that jab knocked him down.
01:07:03And the irony is that he was hit with so many other big punches,
01:07:06and that was the only one that sent him to the canvas.
01:07:09But it was indicative, certainly,
01:07:10of the night that James Toney was going to have.
01:07:15And also indicative, I think, of the Peter jab,
01:07:18which was a really big story in this fight.
01:07:21The fact that he came out and established that jab early,
01:07:24and it's what he intended to do.
01:07:27He had a game plan.
01:07:29He stuck to it.
01:07:29He knew he had to get the jab going,
01:07:32which would open up the right hand.
01:07:34And that's exactly what he did.
01:07:36And, you know, there wasn't too much that Peter didn't do tonight.
01:07:39He threw good body punches.
01:07:40He countered the left hook with his own hook frequently.
01:07:44And even threw in uppercuts.
01:07:46I've not seen Sam Peter throw uppercuts before, have you?
01:07:49Very seldom.
01:07:50And even that punch was part of his arsenal this evening.
01:07:52So kudos to him and for James Toney.
01:07:54Very tough loss.
01:07:55Sam Peter on the precipice of reaffirmation.
01:08:03We've got the final numbers.
01:08:05Let's get it up to our announcer, Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
01:08:11Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of action,
01:08:15we have a unanimous decision here.
01:08:17The score totals.
01:08:18Judge at ringside, Peter Tremotera, scores the bat 119 to 108.
01:08:25Judges John Keane and Daniel Vanderville both score the bat 118 to 110.
01:08:32All three in favor of the winner of the WBC heavyweight title eliminator,
01:08:38Sam Peter, the Nigerian Nightmare, the Nigerian Nightmare, Samuel Peter.
01:08:50An overwhelming points victory.
01:08:53Lifesided, unanimous decision win for the Nigerian Nightmare, Sam Peter.
01:08:59James Toney, after going 16 straight on Beaton,
01:09:05not having taste defeat almost 10 years, now loses two straight.
01:09:10Not the first time.
01:09:12His loss is to Roy Jones and Montel Griffin.
01:09:14We're back to back.
01:09:17Let's get it up to Jim Gray in the ring.
01:09:19Jim.
01:09:20All right, Steve.
01:09:21Thank you very much.
01:09:22Samuel, congratulations.
01:09:23Was this your best fight?
01:09:25Excuse me.
01:09:26I am saying thank you.
01:09:28Jesus, thank you, my Lord.
01:09:32I am saying thank you, Jesus.
01:09:35Thank you, my Lord.
01:09:37I'm so happy, you know.
01:09:38I thank God for the victory.
01:09:41Was this your best fight?
01:09:43Yeah, this is my best fight, you know.
01:09:44I fight the best.
01:09:45You know, I win the fight.
01:09:47I still want to thank God.
01:09:48I thank Don King because I wanted to go back to Vegas and he said,
01:09:51no, you got to be here, train.
01:09:53It's painful, it came for me.
01:09:54That's how I proved myself strong.
01:09:56I can see going around.
01:09:57If he's still ready, I'm ready to go again with him.
01:09:59I mean, I run out 12 rounds.
01:10:01Easy.
01:10:02How much resolve did you have?
01:10:04Because quite obviously you were against this rematch,
01:10:07and how difficult was it for you to train,
01:10:09having known that you had gotten the decision before?
01:10:11You know, the first time I know I beat him
01:10:12because everybody that watched the TV,
01:10:15they listened to commentators.
01:10:16Commentators, oh, Tony, if I hit him with right now,
01:10:18oh, Tony, oh, Tony, you know.
01:10:19So I turned the studio down.
01:10:22Then at least I looked at the fight.
01:10:23I won the first fight, you know,
01:10:25when they called for a match, you know,
01:10:26I didn't happy.
01:10:28But because of the referee and the three that gave me the fight,
01:10:30the two referees gave me the fight,
01:10:31that's why I really took this fight.
01:10:33I couldn't take the rematch.
01:10:35But I tried to prove that those two different
01:10:36that gave me the shot, they were right, you know.
01:10:38Then I decided, okay, I'm going to take the fight.
01:10:40Then I trained.
01:10:41I trained hard.
01:10:41I trained hard for this fight.
01:10:43I stayed full four months for this fight.
01:10:45Let's take a look in the second round.
01:10:47You became the first man since 1994 in Roy Jones Jr.
01:10:50to knock Tony down.
01:10:52Tell us what happened here in the second round, Samuel.
01:10:55I know I have a good jab.
01:10:56You know, my jab is just like a right hand.
01:10:57But, you know, he's a very slick, he's a very slick, you know.
01:11:01He's a very slick guy.
01:11:02He trained hard, you know.
01:11:03He's slick, you know.
01:11:04I mean, if I hit him with a good right hand or a good left two,
01:11:07he would not be soft.
01:11:08He's slick.
01:11:08He's rolling a lot, you know.
01:11:10But I do what I can.
01:11:11I thank God.
01:11:12Samuel, you've improved quite a bit.
01:11:14Why have you become so much more accurate?
01:11:16Is it simply a matter of experience?
01:11:17I have a strong team with Duncan behind me, you know.
01:11:20I have a strong team.
01:11:21All my trainers, they were...
01:11:22Nobody sleep.
01:11:23I didn't go for Christmas.
01:11:24I leave my family back home, you know.
01:11:26I didn't go for this Christmas.
01:11:27I didn't go for anything.
01:11:28I was here.
01:11:29Train hard.
01:11:29I run hard.
01:11:30I run in the beach, you know.
01:11:31I run hard, you know.
01:11:33I never run in my life, but I run.
01:11:34Samuel, stay with us.
01:11:35Let's bring in James Toney.
01:11:37James, if we can get you to come on in.
01:11:39And then we'll talk to...
01:11:42Samuel, stay with us.
01:11:43We want to get your future plans.
01:11:44James.
01:11:44What's that?
01:11:46This evening, Samuel, Tony, do you disagree with this decision?
01:11:49Once again, I do.
01:11:50You know, like I said, I was aggressive.
01:11:52He made a couple good shots, but I hit.
01:11:54I wouldn't...
01:11:55I didn't...
01:11:55When I went down, it wouldn't...
01:11:57He knocked me down, slipped.
01:11:59You know, I got up.
01:12:00No problem.
01:12:01So you feel as though you won this fight?
01:12:02I feel like I won the fight, but, you know, it's all good.
01:12:04We come back.
01:12:05I'll do the fight the other day.
01:12:06I'm still the best fighter in the world.
01:12:07Still the best heavyweight.
01:12:08No doubt.
01:12:09On top.
01:12:10And this guy...
01:12:11This guy supposed to be a hell of a knocker.
01:12:12You know what I'm saying?
01:12:16He could be knocking me up.
01:12:17He could not...
01:12:18I'm a middleweight.
01:12:18Remember?
01:12:19I came from 160.
01:12:20I won't beat anybody else.
01:12:21But this guy's game...
01:12:22Let's take a look at the knockdown.
01:12:23It was the first time you'd been knocked down since 1994.
01:12:26Oh, yeah.
01:12:26And Roy Jones Jr., it looked like a jab.
01:12:29Yeah, but I was on balance.
01:12:29Look at my face.
01:12:30We played a game.
01:12:31See, my feet was on balance.
01:12:32He's not...
01:12:33Nobody on this planet can drop James Toney.
01:12:36Nobody.
01:12:37James, let's go back here a second.
01:12:38I want to ask you to follow up.
01:12:40What exactly is it that you thought you did successfully tonight that you feel you won the fight?
01:12:45I landed more effective shots.
01:12:47I was being aggressive.
01:12:48I was thinking of moving.
01:12:50He made a couple good shots.
01:12:52The shots on the back of the head and behind the back.
01:12:54That's all they can do.
01:12:55But you know what?
01:12:56If they won't take this victory and they did something, they didn't do shit because they can knock me out.
01:13:01They come in and knock James...
01:13:02Nobody knocks James Toney out.
01:13:04I don't give a hell who he is.
01:13:07Nobody can knock me out.
01:13:07No one.
01:13:08He tried his best.
01:13:10James, what would be your plans now?
01:13:12I'm still going to fight.
01:13:13You know, I'm knocking on all bums.
01:13:16Stay...
01:13:16You know what?
01:13:17We fight.
01:13:18Whatever Dan want to do.
01:13:19Hold on.
01:13:19Dan, my motor.
01:13:20Whatever Dan's going to do, we're going to do next, we're going to do it.
01:13:22I don't care.
01:13:22I'll fight anybody anywhere.
01:13:24I'll still...
01:13:24I don't turn down nothing.
01:13:26Do you respect Samuel Peter now?
01:13:27I don't respect no one.
01:13:29I don't respect no one.
01:13:31That's the bottom line.
01:13:32I don't care.
01:13:33James, thank you for your time.
01:13:34Nobody has ever done what I've done.
01:13:37I campaigned at 154, all the way to beat the best fighters out there.
01:13:41I beat everybody.
01:13:42I won titles in every division.
01:13:43James, thank you.
01:13:44Let's bring back Don and Sam Peter.
01:13:46Sam, you now have the championship fight against Maskev.
01:13:50Is that what your plans are?
01:13:52It's next.
01:13:53Maskev is next.
01:13:56Do you feel as though you're the future now of the heavyweight division?
01:13:59You know, I mean, I'm not the best at you.
01:14:01I'm going to take the world title.
01:14:02You're not the best?
01:14:03I'm not the best yet, but I'm going to take the world title.
01:14:05When I take the world title, that's why I feel like a heavyweight champion of the world.
01:14:08That's a refreshing comment.
01:14:09Who do you feel is the best?
01:14:10Well, I mean, the champions, they have the belt.
01:14:13You know, I can't take anything from the champions.
01:14:15You know, they hold the belt.
01:14:16They're the best right now.
01:14:18But I do my best.
01:14:18I'm going up.
01:14:19When I took the championship, I will be the best.
01:14:22Congratulations to you, Samuel.
01:14:23Very nice.
01:14:24Let's bring Don King in.
01:14:25Don, terrific promotion here tonight.
01:14:29What are your plans now?
01:14:30Will you make that fight?
01:14:31It is the mandatory.
01:14:32Maskev, is that what we'll see next?
01:14:34Absolutely.
01:14:35First of all, I want to thank all the people that came out here.
01:14:38I want to thank Ken Herjman for having a vision
01:14:40and the foresight to do this.
01:14:41I want to thank Matt Blank for supporting Ken Herjman
01:14:44in his decision to do this.
01:14:46And it surely made Showtime number one
01:14:48because it's the best fight card we've seen in a long, long time.
01:14:52And I think it's going to be a fight card that everyone will remember
01:14:54because he's after Oleg Maskev.
01:14:57And we will get Oleg Maskev.
01:14:59And when you ask me that, it's done.
01:15:01We're going to fight him.
01:15:02You know what I mean?
01:15:02By any means necessary.
01:15:04And he will become the champion of the world.
01:15:06And then we'll try to eliminate.
01:15:07I mean, unify.
01:15:09You know what I mean?
01:15:09So it's going to be great.
01:15:10I'm looking forward to it with great excitement.
01:15:13Don, and we have a fight here, Super Bowl weekend,
01:15:16February the 3rd, the night before the Super Bowl
01:15:18in the Miami Arena with you.
01:15:19Yes, Thomas Adamak, you know what I mean?
01:15:21The great light heavyweight champion
01:15:22will take on Chad Dawson,
01:15:24a fiery, young, tough guy
01:15:26with great courage, valor, and skill.
01:15:28So Gary, uh, uh, uh, Gary Shaw and myself will be promoting.
01:15:33And it's going to be at the Miami Arena right here, Super Bowl weekend.
01:15:37And along with Julio Diaz against, uh, Chase Chavez, uh, Jesus Chavez.
01:15:42And it's going to be a great, great card of boxing.
01:15:45Again, Showtime will go to the forefront with an unimaginable victory of winning.
01:15:50You know, getting the people there.
01:15:52The place was sold out.
01:15:53Everybody was complaining and saying it wasn't going to happen.
01:15:56The crowd would see all the stars, the Jersey Boys, Frankie Valli,
01:16:00the hottest show on Broadway.
01:16:01He came in.
01:16:02Tony Lobianco, he came in.
01:16:05All of them were rolling in here with this,
01:16:06coming down with the elites in society.
01:16:08And all the news media of the state of Florida was here.
01:16:11So I got to tell you, Jim, I'm just elated.
01:16:14I feel very, very good.
01:16:16Thank you again, Matt Blank.
01:16:17Thank you again, Ken Hirschman.
01:16:18We're on our way to a stellar year.
01:16:19We will see you.
01:16:20We will see you Super Bowl weekend.
01:16:22And we want to remind everybody,
01:16:23you can watch the Super Bowl on CBS TV or listen on Westwood One.
01:16:27It'll be a big weekend back down here in Miami.
01:16:30Let's go back to you, Steve.
01:16:31Oh, back to anybody.
01:16:33All right, Jim.
01:16:34Sam Peter, refreshingly humble and modest.
01:16:38Tonight's winner has earned the right to fight Oleg Moskyev
01:16:42for the WBC heavyweight title.
01:16:44And Moskyev certainly seems like the most vulnerable
01:16:47of all the heavyweight champions in the world.
01:16:52He's 37, has five knockout losses on his record
01:16:56as we take a look at the scoring for Peter and Tony, too,
01:16:58the judges' scoring.
01:16:59That is, of course, from the first fight.
01:17:02We saw how they scored it, the margin for Peter,
01:17:05Tony getting a 115-112 margin.
01:17:08The 116-111, we thought, in that fight a little bit wide.
01:17:11In this fight, of course, he got a wide margin
01:17:13and no one would dare question the 118-1 scores
01:17:18or 119-08 scored.
01:17:20I had it 118-110 for this fight.
01:17:22And when James Tony looks at the tape of this fight,
01:17:28I think he'll be singing a different tune,
01:17:31you know, unless he's in complete denial.
01:17:33Because it really wasn't even close.
01:17:36James Tony really understands boxing.
01:17:37And, you know, he didn't do enough in this fight.
01:17:40Sam Peter came of age because he did exactly
01:17:43what he said he was going to do.
01:17:44He established a jab early.
01:17:45He threw a lot more punches.
01:17:47And that was the key, in my opinion, to this.
01:17:50James Tony has a conundrum.
01:17:52He cannot hurt big heavyweights.
01:17:54And he also can't be in enough shape
01:17:56to throw a lot of punches over 12 rounds.
01:17:58That's tough for him.
01:17:59It really was a coming-out party for Sam Peter.
01:18:01Where does a 38-year-old boxing legend go from here?
01:18:07Well, you know, part of the...
01:18:08As we look at the press row scoring
01:18:09and see that they clearly had it very large
01:18:12for Sam Peter, who was basking in this special moment for him.
01:18:17Talking to press row right now.
01:18:19Yeah, there you go.
01:18:19He decided to have his go with them.
01:18:22You know, the fact of the matter is,
01:18:23for James Tony at 38, it's difficult.
01:18:25I mean, this is going to sound like an absurd statement.
01:18:28What he ought to be doing is fighting as a cruiserweight.
01:18:30Now, he's 234 pounds.
01:18:32Guess what?
01:18:33He's about 25 pounds bigger than he should be.
01:18:35He just is.
01:18:36And I love James Tony.
01:18:37I have total admiration for his toughness,
01:18:39for his skill level.
01:18:40He can't fight consistently at this age, at this level.
01:18:44And now Peter is supposed to go up against a guy
01:18:47who's 37 next.
01:18:49And Oleg Moskiev, and they're lining up by the droves
01:18:54to get to this guy because of his history.
01:18:57He's been knocked out five times.
01:18:59An early handicap of Peter versus Moskiev?
01:19:02The way Sam Peter fought this evening,
01:19:04it puts him in a very good position against Oleg Moskiev
01:19:08because I don't know if this man can be hurt
01:19:11by anybody who isn't a monstrous puncher.
01:19:14And I'm not sure Moskiev punches hard enough to hurt him.
01:19:16The only time he's been hurt is once against Klitschko.
01:19:19Sam Peter has shown that he's on the cusp
01:19:21of being an extraordinary fighter.
01:19:26So a very exciting start to 2007
01:19:30for Showtime Championship Boxing
01:19:33as Sam Peter prevails in convincing fashion,
01:19:36a lopsided decision over 38-year-old
01:19:39future Hall of Famer James Tony.
01:19:43As we take a look at tonight's results,
01:19:46let's hear it.
