00:00Wearing the blue trunks with the gold stripes and weighing 203 and 1 half pounds, 13 and 1, Wendell the Spoiler Bailey!
00:19Bailey!
00:21Well, you're looking at Wendell Bailey, who's 25 years old, from Baltimore, Maryland.
00:26In the rear corner, from the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
00:37Wearing black trunks with the white stripes and weighing 235 pounds even.
00:48And the best contender for the crown, Jimmy Young!
00:58Jimmy Young!
01:00And the crowd really amazed at that 235.
01:05You can see on your screen, he is round at the moment.
01:08Young wanted to protest that announcement.
01:10I think he's a little vain.
01:11But looking at him now, I not only wonder if he's in his 8th or 9th month, but whether he's wearing a B or a C cup.
01:18Well, I'll tell you one thing, Bailey's going to find out in a hurry.
01:22Because Bailey looks like the type that will go right to Young's belly.
01:26Because that's where it is.
01:28It's all down there.
01:30And Jimmy Young is about, I would say, 30 pounds overweight.
01:35Maybe 25, but certainly he is 25, if not 30.
01:41Here's the bell for round of a 1.
01:43Young facing you.
01:44Bailey on the left.
01:45Now Bailey is facing you.
01:47And it'll be interesting to see, Larry, what Bailey will do.
01:52Bailey, 13 wins out of 14 fights.
01:55Young on your left.
01:57Bailey with his back.
02:01Young, of course, far more experienced.
02:03But also, obviously not in the best of shape.
02:07Look at those rolls of fat over the trunk, Woody.
02:13Look at that.
02:13Look at that body on that Bailey.
02:20I think as Larry Merchant pointed out, the best thing for Bailey to do is not to try to knock Young out.
02:25There was a nice and slow.
02:27An interesting combination.
02:28The first combination that Bailey threw was a right left, followed by a right to the stomach.
02:37Bailey on your left is 26.
02:39Young is 30.
02:42Bailey at 2.03 and a half.
02:44Young at 235.
02:45And you can see every ounce of it.
02:47Well, he's got to go to the body.
02:51No question about that.
02:55The referee is Billy Graham.
02:58Former great.
03:03Jimmy is cute.
03:04Young is a little bit more positive and aggressive in this round than he ordinarily is, Len.
03:18And it's my suspicion that he wants to let his younger opponent know that he's in there with somebody across.
03:25He got tagged with a left.
03:27And he blinked and staggered him.
03:28He got hurt with that one.
03:31No question about it.
03:32And he was smart enough to get out of there in a hurry.
03:36Well, as I was saying, he was coming in and being aggressive.
03:38And just as I said it, an uncharacteristic way for him to fight.
03:43And he got nailed.
03:44Always happens.
03:50Young on your left.
03:51Bailey on your right.
03:52And I tell you, if Young loses, he's going to be in a bad way insofar as commanding any sizable amount of money to fight.
04:02Right now, Bailey should be pressing forward and going on the attack, tiring his man out.
04:08Young can't punch very hard, can't hurt him.
04:11He is dazed himself.
04:13The inexperience of Bailey right now perhaps is costing him a chance for a sensational victory that would launch him right into the thick of the heavyweight picture.
04:22He might be a little over-award by this.
04:25Well, I think he may be over-award.
04:27And he shouldn't be.
04:28He just really hurt this man.
04:31It'd take him a round or two maybe to get rid of the nervousness.
04:35We'll see how he moves along here.
04:36There's only four seconds left in the opening round of the scheduled 10-round.
04:40There's the bell.
04:41And that's the end of the first one.
04:43It'll be interesting to know what the corner of Wendell Bailey advised him to do.
04:48They may feel that if Bailey can press him and stay with him, that at Young's weight that he will get tired in the fifth or sixth round and then for the younger fellow to come on.
04:59I tell you, you raise an interesting point, Larry.
05:01If I were working Bailey's corner, I would tell him to play it cool for three or four rounds and see what Young does.
05:08He's got all the time in the world.
05:09It's a 10-rounder.
05:10The guy obviously is out of shape, Jimmy Young.
05:12And as you can see, Bailey is not.
05:15And I would say anywhere from the fourth and fifth round on, as Young starts to tire, then Bailey should move in.
05:23But right now, I would play it kind of cool.
05:25Just jab and box and see what the heck Young has got to offer.
05:28The first round, of course, is always a feel-out round.
05:30And Jimmy Young on the right is the veteran.
05:35And he's got the experience.
05:37And Wendell Bailey, now on your right, might be a little overawed by the reputation of a Jimmy Young, who, after all, has boxed Ken Norton and Muhammad Ali.
05:45So, that might have a bearing on the boy.
05:49Let's see what he does.
05:52He's Wendell Bailey from Baltimore, Maryland.
05:55And he's 2-0-3 and a half.
05:57Well, if he's a boxer who we'll be reckoned with, he shouldn't have respect for Young, but he should not be in awe of him.
06:03And particularly after he showed that with one punch, he could stagger him and daze him.
06:10I guess it would be quite a feather in his cap if he can beat Jimmy Young on the left.
06:18Young is getting around $20,000 for this fight, which is far off some of the six-figure curses he was getting when he was fighting the top heavyweights.
06:30He's almost eaten himself out of contention.
06:34Well, at least he has enough money to eat.
06:42As the fight progresses, you might see Bailey gain in confidence.
06:46It'll be interesting to see how he steps up his offense.
06:5250 seconds left to go in round number two of a scheduled 10-rounder between Jimmy Young facing you and Wendell Bailey with his back piece.
07:01Good sneak right by Young there.
07:03He's got a good sneak right hand.
07:12We're counting down now in round number two.
07:15It doesn't hurt, of course, for Bailey to lean on Jimmy as much as he can.
07:2410 seconds left in round number two.
07:35Bailey Graham separates them.
07:36And we're coming up to the bell.
07:41Thank you, Larry.
07:43But I'm slightly disappointed in Jimmy Young's physique.
07:47Whereas Wendell is terrifically awesome, like heavyweight should be, this man has not been training like he should, I suspect.
07:57One of my favorite fighters, too, Jimmy Young.
07:59I'm worried about him.
08:01I hope that he's in better shape than he looks.
08:06We're going to find out, Brian, because it looks like Wendell has been ordered to step up his attack as we move into the third round.
08:14Right now, I would say that this fight is really more of a test of Wendell Bailey than Jimmy Young.
08:21Right now, we want to see if Wendell Bailey has the stuff to be a heavyweight of distinction, a heavyweight who carries his weight.
08:32He should beat this man.
08:35And if he goes to the attack and asserts his youth and his conditioning, he's somebody we'll want to look at again.
08:46A minute 56 to go in round number three of a scheduled 10 between Jimmy Young and Wendell Bailey.
08:54Young on your left and Bailey on your right.
08:56And Billy Graham in between and Washington folks.
09:02Young is trying to pull Bailey into the corner.
09:11He's laying on him.
09:13Trying to use that weight to some advantage.
09:19Short chopping right.
09:21Didn't score by Young.
09:23He's giving the youngster something else to think about now with a change of his style, and we'll see if Bailey can solve it.
09:29He's working down on Bailey's midsection when he gets the chance.
09:33A minute and nine to go in the third round.
09:37Jimmy is digging into the body now and scoring.
09:42He's pulling an alley on Bailey.
09:45That left hook caught him.
09:46Caught him again.
09:51I have to admit, I didn't see the punch.
09:53Bailey's all right.
09:59He's going to make it, but he took a good left hook, followed by a right and another left.
10:04There's that short right, left, another left and right.
10:08A short right, another right.
10:11That's it.
10:12That's it.
10:13That's all over.
10:15It's all over.
10:16Two-thirty of the third round.
10:21Roughly a TKO for Jimmy Young.
10:28I want to tell you, the guy's crowd is buzzing.
10:33Jimmy Young in the space of about a minute and a half.
