00:29anti-immigrant policies.
00:32Four out of twelve activists and crew members of the humanitarian ship Madeline have been
00:41deported by the Israeli regime after being illegally kidnapped in international waters.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:54We begin with the news.
00:55Argentina's Supreme Court upheld Tuesday the six-year prison sentence handed down by a federal
01:14court against the former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in December 2022. The ruling also
01:20establishes Fernandez's perpetual disqualification to hold public office. The decision represents a
01:25turning point in the judicial and political history of the South American country by confirming for the
01:31first time a criminal conviction against the former President. The three top court justices dismissed the
01:37arguments of the defense which had questioned the impartiality of the process and the strength of
01:43the evidence presented by the prosecution. The ruling takes place in the context of an electoral campaign and
01:50high political sensitivity. Unions and social organizations in Argentina as well as Latin American leaders have
01:56rejected the decision and expressed their support to the former Argentinian President.
02:01While addressing her followers gathered at the headquarters of the judicialist party in Buenos Aires, Cristina Fernandez denounced
02:13the court's sentence response to the interest of the country's economic powers.
02:17To the popular vote is not put by this Trump, this court, which is unpresentable. No, no.
02:37This people who cannot even present themselves and are just working
02:47as a fiction, a fiction of the top court. No, no, no. It's just three three men that are just responding to upper higher
02:58interests that are way above them. So the worst and it's not either the it's not the opposition. It's the economic concentrated
03:12economic power of Argentina, dear comrades that it's saying that you need to put down the telephones that
03:23they cannot see. Please let the comrades see. It's the concentrated economic power.
03:38In this context, Fernandez called on militants to organize and stand together next to the people during this crucial time for going political disputes.
03:49Go, go and organize yourself. Go and do political activity and be right next to the people because they need it. Go and do your political activism right next to those political and social spots that are being targeted.
04:06by this political force in power. Go and be next to the people arise their sympathies. It is fundamental that they see a political leadership that are committed with the problems of the people and not the problems of leadership.
04:24Please let's commit ourselves with all our strength and all our conviction, helping those who need help.
04:36The lawyer for Cristina Fernandez, Gregorio Dalbon, also rejected the Supreme Court's decision to condemn the former mandatories to six years in prison. On his ex-account, the lawyer stated,
04:50As Cristina Fernandez, the Kirchner's lawyer, I denounced before the Argentine people and the international community one of the most serious and shameful judicial decisions since the return of democracy in 1983.
05:02Today, a leader who did not commit any crime has been condemned. Today, a trial that should never have existed has been sealed with a sentence written in advance.
05:14This is not a conviction. It is a revenge of power. It is the result of a set of interests that does not tolerate a woman who transform Argentina with social justice, political sovereignty and economic independence.
05:27A leader who was not and will not be part of the system of privileges that governs from the shadows. There is no crime. There is no proof. There is no justice. We say it with all legal clarity.
05:39There is no typical anti-juridical or guilty act attributed to Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. There is no direct or indirect evidence. There is no malice. There is no personal benefit. There is no participation.
05:53There is not even a clear description of the punishable act. The sentence is based on speculations, inferences and a story created outside the file. It is an artificial construction that ignores the principles of legality and flagrantly violates all due process guarantees.
06:11Cristina is not alone. Cristina is not defeated. She is not condemned by history. History has already absolved her. The world will soon see what is happening here. A political persecution disguised as legality. It is time to fight. We will do it. The sentence is not legitimate. The judges are not legitimate. This has just begun.
06:32Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa condemned through his ex-account in the decision of the Argentine Supreme Court against former President Cristina Fernandez. He wrote,
06:48Hang in, Cristina. Hang in, Argentina. Enough lawfare. Defeat us, if you can, at the ballot box.
06:55Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel sent also his support to Cristina Fernandez and described the judicial process as a political persecution. On his official ex-account, the Cuban President said,
07:13We reaffirm our unwavering support to Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in the face of an episode of political prosecution. Once again, justice is used with political motivations as an instrument of the right wing against progressive leaders in the region. Hang in, dear Cristina.
07:30On the other hand, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez condemned the Argentine Supreme Court's ruling against Cristina Fernandez and expressed the Caribbean island's support to the former president.
07:45In his message on acts headed, Cuba expresses its firm solidarity with Cristina Fernandez. And Rodriguez also wrote, We reiterate our support to the Argentine people in defense of sovereignty and dignity.
07:59The conviction against Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is a clear act of revenge and threat.
08:04And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tik Tok at Telesur English where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more. We'll be right back, stay with us.
08:23Welcome back to From the South. U.S. President Donald Trump militarized the city of Los Angeles amid protests against his anti-immigrant policies.
08:42On the orders of the U.S. President, at least 700 Marines were deployed in the California city after a night of protests condemned his immigration measures.
08:52Likewise, nearly 4,000 National Guard troops were added to the militarization that Democratic leaders described as premature.
09:00The Trump administration warned that if protesters showed up at the military parade scheduled for June 14th in Washington, they would be confronted with heavy force.
09:10In this context, on Tuesday, Democratic members of California's congressional delegation accused President Donald Trump of creating a manufactured crisis in Los Angeles with his orders to send in National Guard troops and Marines.
09:28The chaos is the bait and the switch is the switch is a constitutional crisis and power grab.
09:35Trump created this political distraction to divide us and keep our focus away from his policies that are wrecking havoc on our economy and hurting working families.
09:47He's not keeping us safe. He's not restoring order. He's ratcheting up the tension, wishing for it to reach a boiling point point.
09:56And we all knew that this day would come. It was just a matter of time. And this isn't leadership. It's a deliberate attempt by Trump to incite unrest, test the limits of executive power and distract from the lawlessness of his administration.
10:14Bringing the National Guard and the Marines only escalates tensions, turning our neighborhoods into battlegrounds and militarizing our streets is not the answer.
10:26It's not the answer for California and it's not the answer for any other state or municipality across the country.
10:35This Tuesday, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheyman, responded to declarations of the Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States, accusing her falsely of encouraging the violent protests in Los Angeles, California.
10:51Mexican president through her through her social media ex stated a few moments ago in response to a question from a media outlet, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security
11:02mistakenly mentioned that I encouraged violent protests in Los Angeles. I inform you that this is absolutely false. Here is my statement from yesterday in which I clearly condemned violent demonstrations.
11:16We have always been against them, and even more so now in the high office I hold. On the other hand, our position is and will continue to be the defense of honest, hardworking Mexicans who support the United States economy
11:31and the families in Mexico. I am certain that dialogue and respect are the best path to understanding between our peoples and our nations and that this misunderstanding will be cleared up.
11:46We do not agree with violent actions as a form of protest. The burning of patrol seems more like an add of provocation than resistance. It should be clear that we condemn violence,
12:06we call the Mexican community to act peacefully and do not fall into provocation.
12:15The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects its inclusion in the ridiculous list of high-risk countries published by the European Union.
12:23Through a statement, the Venezuelan government stressed that what does represent a real risk is the European Union's inability to protect its own interests, its economy and even its dignity.
12:34An anachronistic, outdated bureaucracy disconnected from its people now seeks to lecture Venezuela when it cannot even govern its own space coherently.
12:46It has banks, laundry, money in its own capitals, officials who look the other way and tax heavens that operate with total impunity within its borders or under its protection.
12:59Venezuela, on the other hand, Venezuela is a growing economy with political stability and institutions that respond to its people, not to financial interests or lobbies.
13:10We have faced blockades, sanctions, attempts at isolation and here we are, stronger, firmer and without double standards.
13:18What bothers the decrepit European elite is not the risk but the truth that there are countries in the south that no longer bow their heads, that do not accept tutelage and that are not willing to join the ranks of the obedient.
13:33The process of swearing in of the governors elected by the great patriotic police moving forward in Venezuela.
13:46From the city of Guanare, Portugueso State, Primitivo Cedeño was sworn in as the next governor of that region for a second period, 2025-2029.
13:56The event was attended by the Vice President of Venezuela, Delci Rodriguez, who described the
14:03just intentions of the extreme right.
14:07Likewise, the Vice President emphasized that the May 25th elections reaffirmed the democratic and participatory commitment
14:14of the communities that elected the regional leaders with the aim of consolidating the economic and social progress of Venezuela.
14:21In Colombia, more than 13 explosions and gun attacks have left at least three people dead and several injured in Cali on Tuesday.
14:33The mayor of the city, Alejandro Eder, confirmed that the first violent incident occurred after a motorcycle bomb exploded at the Meléndez police station south of the city.
14:44Almost at the same time, there was an explosion at the police immediate response center in Manuela Beltrán in the capital of the Cauca Valley.
14:52In addition, separated explosions were reported in the towns of Corinto, El Bordo and Llamundí.
14:59The detonations seemingly targeted police stations and other municipal buildings occurred amid a wave of violence in Cali, the country's third largest city,
15:08and just days after the attempted assassination of former presidential candidate Miguel Uribe in Bogotá.
15:14In Brazil, former President Jair Bolsonaro testified for the first time before the Supreme Court on Tuesday as part of a trial over his role in the 2022 coup d'etat attempt.
15:29This way, Bolsonaro and seven allies are being questioned by a panel of top judges over their participation in the multi-step scheme that intended to keep the far-right leader in office,
15:42despite his defeat in polls to current President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva.
15:46The defendants stand trial on five counts, among them attempting to stage a coup and attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, all of which Bolsonaro has repeatedly denied.
15:57If charged, the accused could be sentenced to decades in prison.

16:31Welcome back to From the South.
16:53Since the intensification of the aggression on the gases trip in October 2023,
16:58Israel has killed more than 16,000 students.
17:01In its most recent report, the Ministry of Education revealed that nearly 26,000 students have been wounded by bombardments from the occupying force.
17:10It states that over 900 teachers and education workers have been killed, over 4,000 wounded and almost 200 detained by Israeli troops.
17:20It also states that Israeli aggression has affected more than 400 schools, some of which are run by the United Nations.
17:27In this regard, the Palestinian Journalist Union said the number of media professionals killed by Israel's Zionist forces rose to 227 after new raids.
17:43In the most recent Israeli attack against Gaza, Palestinian journalist Mohamed Abu Alouf and three other paramedics were killed while they were evacuating the wounded in a school use for displaced families.
17:56The Gaza government media office denounces that the largest unprecedented massacre of journalists is taking place and condemns the killings that the occupation forces have been carrying out since October 2023.
18:13Four out of 12 activists and crew members of the humanitarian ship Madeline have been deported by the Israeli regime after being illegally kidnapped in international waters.
18:24The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which launched the ship's mission, confirmed on Tuesday the deportation of activists Greta Thunberg, Baptist André Umar Feyd and Sergio Toribio while informing the eight remaining crew members are still detained.
18:41The volunteers were given the option of consenting to deportation of remaining detention to face a tribunal.
18:48In this context, the coalition encouraged some of the activists to agree to expedite return to advocate for the release of their fellow participants.
18:56The Madeline crew members' detention has been condemned as illegal and another Zionist attempt to block the entry of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave.
19:05In Austria, at least 10 people died and 12 were injured during a shooting at a school in the city of Graz.
19:22Around 300 police officers responded to the initial alert as counter-terrorist officers were also deployed to the scene.
19:29In the aftermath, authorities unveiled the suspected shooter who killed himself after the act was a 21-year-old former student of the centre with no previous criminal record who likely used two weapons that he possessed legally.
19:44In this context, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker has decreed three days of national mourning with a minute of silence to be held at 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday to mark what he described as a dark day in the history of the country.
19:58This day is the darkest day in the history of our country.
20:11The school shooting is a national tragedy that has deeply shaken us.
20:21Through this unimaginable act, nine people were suddenly torn from their lives.
20:31There are no words to express the pain, bewilderment and grief.
20:36The entire Austrian nation is in shock.
20:40My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the bereaved, the families and those who have lost a child.
20:47The Russian authorities have announced that they are working to secure the release of Russian servicemen being held in Ukraine.
21:07The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, said that the return of soldiers from captivity to Russia had begun following the agreements reached in Istanbul and that all efforts would be made to return them as soon as possible.
21:21He also announced that the first group of Russian servicemen under 25 years of age had been returned from Kiev and that an equivalent number of Ukrainian prisoners had been handed over in exchange.
21:32The Russian government announced that it would hand over the bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian servicemen who had been killed.
21:39However, the Ukrainian side did not show up at the agreed location.
