00:28former President Álvaro Uribe's convictions for fraud and bribery setting the stage for
00:34further appeals in the case. And in Argentina, President Javier Milei enacted emergency laws on
00:43pediatric health and security university funding but suspended their implementation
00:49and ordered Congress to determine the sources of their funding.
00:53Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Habana, Cuba.
01:02We begin with the news.
01:15United Nations experts denounce that the covert actions and threats of the United States against Venezuela
01:20violated sovereignty and international law. According to the experts' conclusion, the
01:25military actions of the United States in the Caribbean region violate the United Nations
01:29Charter and constitute a dangerous escalation with serious implications for international
01:34peace and security. They emphasize that it threatens territorial integrity including the attempts to
01:41impose regime change in Venezuela. In this regard, they urged Washington to cease its aggressions
01:46actions against the Caribbean and respect its self-determination.
01:55The Foreign Minister of the country, Ivan Hill, spoke out on behalf of the government to reiterate
02:02its position against threats. The Venezuelan Foreign Minister expressed,
02:06the United States, the United States, the United States, the United States, the United States,
02:11the United States, the United States, the United States, the United States, the United States,
02:12to justify a supposed right to defense, resulting in massacres in the Caribbean Sea.
02:17Ivan Hill also stated that the Bolivarian government, on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, reiterated
02:24its call for dialogue and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela.
02:29National authorities in Granada reaffirmed the people's commitment to national sovereignty and dignity,
02:38making it clear to the U.S. government that the country will never be its backyard. The United States
02:44government requested the installation of military assets at Maudis Bishop International Airport,
02:50located in St. George's, the capital of Granada. With this action, Washington intends to continue
02:57expanding its interference in the Caribbean. And the Prime Minister of Granada, Deacon Mitchell,
03:02will inform the people about the government's decision on this issue before the end of October.
03:07And in addition, the Trump administration, once again attempting to pressure Granada to accept
03:13deputies from third countries, a request it has made on several occasions since January 2025. In this
03:20scenario, the Granada Collision for the Zone of Peace called for a public march on October 23rd,
03:27which will depart from the government headquarters.
03:30We say no to refugees coming into our country who are non-Grenadians. We don't want people that we don't know anything about. We're struggling, as we said,
03:47with our own housing problems. And we are not accepting refugees just because the empire says so, skilled or unskilled.
03:54If we decide we want refugees, we will say we want refugees. But nobody is imposing refugees on Granada. We're not accepting them like that.
04:03We did receive earlier in the year, I think sometime in January, a request to house third party or third country
04:14refugees or nationals, third country nationals. And we did indicate then to the United States that we
04:22will be willing to accept Grenadians who they wish to deport out of the United States, but not third country nationals.
04:33The request has since been renewed and we have not responded because we have not officially changed our position.
04:45But they have again made the request as far as I know, but we have not given an answer.
04:53And the Venezuelan National Assembly proposed on Tuesday to call on all parliaments of the countries of the Caribbean Basin to
05:04meeting the U.S., who affirmed that the Venezuelan Parliament had all the necessary legal instruments to guarantee peace in the
05:10nation. During the parliament meeting, the lawmakers approved unanimously a draft agreement on the recent canonization by the
05:17Vatican of Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez and Mother Carmen Rendiles. Deputy Jesus Brito informed that Pope Leo XIV had
05:25sent a message in which he expressed his hope that the canonization of Hernandez and Rendiles be assumed
05:32by all Venezuelans as an opportunity for their unity as a nation.
05:39And what can be said about the traitors who, fortunately in a minimal way, are calling for
05:47violence, bloodshed, and destruction for our country. Which is why this council needs to defend
05:55every Venezuelan, every Venezuelan, and their right to live in peace. The great Caribbean parliamentary
06:03meeting is scheduled to take place in the coming days. And the deputies will be informed so that they
06:10can play an important role in all activities. And the Bolivarian government provided uniforms and
06:17supplies to the tactical units of the Venezuelan Armed Forces. Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino
06:23Lopez delivered equipment aimed at increasing the operational capacity of Venezuelan troops in the
06:29national territory, as well as guaranteeing the security protection and defense of the people.
06:35The Venezuelan Minister also reported that comprehensive exercises have been conducted as part of Operation
06:41Independence 200 in all entities of the nation, with the aim of coordinating and organizing the people
06:48in a civil military police union for the defense of Venezuela.
06:59And well, from now on, I also want to show how, as I have already said,
07:05we have been carrying out 200 independence exercises every day. These are comprehensive exercises
07:14that we have carried out in the capital and in all 24 states, territory by territory,
07:22operational zone by operational zone of comprehensive defense.
07:28And the Venezuelan Defense Minister also emphasized that President Nicolás Maduro democratized the defense
07:34of the nation with the fusion of the popular military and police forces.
07:38We could say that 13 years later, President Nicolás Maduro has placed all matters relating to the comprehensive
07:49defense of the nation in the hands of the people. In other words, he has democratized defense.
07:57How? Well, by creating important instruments, that Bolivarian militia that our supreme commander envisioned,
08:07but which was put into practice by our commander-in-chief President Nicolás Maduro. There we see it,
08:15in full construction, these independence 200 exercises, which we were reviewing for 10 days,
08:23ordered by our commander-in-chief showed us the great creation we have achieved,
08:28the great strength we have achieved and reached in the union of the people, the military,
08:37and the police to bring the entire nation to optimal readiness, the preparation of the people,
08:44above all for defense. Also on Tuesday, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced that a fourth
08:51public consultation will be held on November 23rd. The main objective of the consultation is to call
08:57on the people to prepare and propose the projects they wish to implement in their communities,
09:03to which the President refers as an example of direct democracy. The first national public
09:08consultation was held in April, where 4,500 community projects were selected for funding
09:17to strengthen the role of people's power. In this regard, President Nicolás Maduro denounced the
09:22foreign campaigns against democracy promoted by former President Hugo Chávez Frias, while demanding
09:29respect for the people of Venezuela.
09:31And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
09:41where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more. We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:54Welcome back to From the South. This Tuesday, President Nicolás Maduro received the credential
10:00letters from the new ambassadors designated by the republics of Cuba and Lebanon. In the sun of Peru,
10:06held at the Miraflores Palace, the President received His Excellency Jorge Luis Mayo Fernández,
10:12ambassador designate of the Republic of Cuba. This diplomatic event honors the strong roots of
10:18cooperation and solidarity forged by the Eternal Commanders Hugo Chávez Frias and Fidel Castro Ruz.
10:25The President also welcomed Her Excellency Nizrin Bukhara, ambassador designate of the Lebanese
10:31Republic. And also the ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister Ivan Hill and the Executive Secretary
10:37of Alba TCP Rander Peña. Both meetings underline Venezuela's priority of strengthening ties of cooperation,
10:45respect and brotherhood with the world within the framework of its foreign policy focused on
10:51achieving world peace.
10:57In Venezuela, delegations from social movements and political parties from 52 countries express
11:02their solidarity as part of the International Day of Support for the Bolivarian Revolution and the
11:08communities that are developing in Caracas. The event organized by the Simon Bolivar Institute and
11:15anti-imperialist movement seeks to highlight popular power and promote the development of communities that
11:21serve as a model for participatory and protagonistic management, fulfilling the legacy of Commander Chávez.
11:28The International Front of Solidarity with Venezuela brings together countries from Asia, Africa, Europe and
11:36Latin America to discuss the role of women and denounce the aggressions of the United States.
11:41It should be noted that the Day of Support for the Bolivarian Revolution will continue until October 22.
12:06Now we are moving to the heart of Caracas, to the 23 de Janeiro neighborhood where the residents of
12:14Fe Socialista Comune have transformed their environment into a living and production space.
12:19Popular organization, ecology and solidarity are the response from below to the aggressions and challenges
12:26of the blockade and the neoliberal model that the empire wants to impose. Let's see the following report.
12:31Self-management seeks to break with the neoliberal model and oil renterism in order to build from the
12:38basis a new social organization that is sovereign, ecological and participatory. The people through
12:43their assemblies are moving towards self-sufficiency. The commune always has an assembly-based principle,
12:50making all decisions in communal assemblies. Neighbors in the communal territory discuss projects,
12:56choose priorities and plan development in coordination with the city council. Every decision is subject to
13:00popular consultations where participation is a priority. At the last consultation held on July 27,
13:08a project specifically dedicated to youth one, which involves training courses, science, technology
13:16and telematics. Through the INSEE and the communal councils, the community has launched a popular training
13:22network for young people and adults, baking, computer science, urban agriculture and animal husbandry.
13:28Jacqueline has been teaching the art of bread making for six years.
13:33If I'm being honest, they arrive thinking, oh, what is this? Why am I going to cook? And I don't know
13:39why, but the first time they make bread, they fall in love with it. From then on, they start asking
13:43enthusiastically, teacher, what's for tomorrow? What do I have to do tomorrow? The commune produces a varied diet
13:50in a sustainable way. It is distributed directly to families in the surrounding areas, avoiding speculations
13:55and intermediaries and guaranteeing fair prices in believers.
14:01We serve the Fe Socialista commune. Specifically, our focus is on Sun E, although we also take surplus to other areas
14:07of our community, specifically in Sun E. We serve approximately 1,500 families who are served monthly
14:16through the club's structure. We coordinate with the club's spokesperson so that every product made in
14:21the territory effectively reach the Venezuelan table. In this space, a circular economy model is practiced
14:28that reuses resources and reduces waste. Everything is utilized, nothing is lost.
14:34The circular economy models allow things that might otherwise be discarded to be reused. This creates an
14:39ecological model that is one of the driving forces behind our country, where ecology plays an important
14:45role. Animal waste is used for fertilizer. This gives us a surplus and a margin to be able to systematize
14:52and still have a wide margin for distribution. The project has not only transformed the local economy,
14:57but also the lives of the youngest people. Neighbors who came from industrial jobs are now connected to
15:02the countryside and food sovereignty right in the city.
15:04I never thought about working in these fields. I was working in the chemical industry and food
15:13processing, but I never thought about working in farming here in Caracas. I really didn't,
15:19and I think it has been a very beautiful experience.

15:42Final travel break. We'll be right back.
15:53Welcome back to From the South. A Colombian court overturned former President Álvaro Uribe's
15:59convictions for fraud and bribery on Tuesday, setting the stage for further appeals in the case.
16:04The ruling was reached after two judges and a panel of three voted to strike down the verdict
16:11against the ex-president, citing structural deficiencies in the previous ruling, including
16:16insufficient evidence. Colombian President Gustavo Pedro denounced the decision and said it granted
16:23impunity to politicians who came to power in alliance with drug traffickers and who unleashed
16:28genocide in the country. Uribe had been sentenced in August to 12 years of house arrest, a fine of 578,000
16:38dollars and a ban from serving in public office for 100 months and 20 days. Senator Ivan Cepeda,
16:44one of the central figures in this Uribe case, has already announced his plans to challenge the court decision.
16:57Through his ex-account, Colombian President Gustavo Pedro stated,
17:01The Superior Court of Bogota repeats history, contradicts the Supreme Court of Justice and asserts
17:07that the judicial interception carried out by a magistrate of the Supreme Court against a criminal
17:12in which Uribe's voice appears talking about bribes, is private intimacy. This is how the history of
17:20paramilitarism governance in Colombia is covered up, and that is the history of the politicians who came to
17:27power allied with drug trafficking and who unleashed the genocide in Colombia. Now Trump, allied with
17:33these politicians and with Uribe, will seek sanctions against the president who denounced in his life the
17:40alliances between Colombian political power and paramilitary drug trafficking in Colombia, and he
17:46does so with the help of those who helped paramilitarism in the country. In the accusations
17:52commission, they are already seeking those involved in the embezzlement of FOMAG, the Coupe d'État.
17:58So the time for definitions has arrived, and the one who defines is not Trump, it is the people. I await
18:05you in the Plaza de Bolivar in Bogota this Friday to begin the collection of signatures from the constituent power.
18:12In Argentina, President Javier Millet enacted emergency laws on pediatric health and university funding,
18:24but suspended their implementation and ordered Congress to determine the sources of their funding.
18:30The government followed the same pattern as it did with the disability emergency law. Congressman Esteban
18:37Paulón announced the expansion of the complaint for abuse of authority and breach of public office
18:43against Javier Millet, Guillermo Francos, Mario Lugones and Sandra Petavello. Although Millet now
18:49rejects the allocation of funds, just a few days ago Liberty Advances asked the electoral chamber to
18:55reprint all the ballots for the October 26th elections. The request, as rejected by the judges,
19:02would have cost the national government millions. On Tuesday, university unions, workers at Garrahan
19:08Hospital and people with disabilities will once more take to the streets to protest against Millet's policies.
19:25Meanwhile, Argentine opposition deputies will extend their complaint against the Millet administration
19:31under the emergency disability law. The executive branch specified that if the law is not approved,
19:37it cannot be enforced. Therefore, the funding cannot be covered. For their part, in the midst of the
19:43debate on the 2026 budget, deputies are demanding that the government incorporate Congress's request
19:49to into the legislative process and otherwise they will withdraw their support for the bill.
20:01And several social and trade union organizations have called for a protest to be held this Tuesday in
20:09Plaza de Mayo in rejection to the policies from Javier Millet's government. The purpose of the rally
20:15is to demand that the executive branch immediately enforce the laws regarding funding for the university
20:21sector, disabilities and pediatric emergencies at the Garrahan Hospital. In addition, the Argentine
20:27Federation of National University Workers announced a 24-hour strike starting this Tuesday, while the
20:35teaching sector will extend the national day of protest until this Wednesday. Meanwhile, Garrahan Hospital
20:41staff say that if the pediatric emergency laws are not enforced, they will also prepare for a national strike.
20:57Now we go to El Salvador. There, mothers and family members of victims detained under the state of
21:05emergency marched to demand that the authorities unseal documents proving the innocence of their
21:11detained relatives. On Tuesday, social organizations and families of the incarcerated gathered in front of
21:19the National Prosecutor's Office in Defense of Human Rights. The protesters presented the head of the
21:24institution with a series of documents proving the innocence of those unjustly detained without due
21:30process. Activists also denounced the mismanagement of judicial procedures in the country.
21:43And we go to Ecuador now in the context of the national strike. Now it is the 30th day of
21:50international organizations have warned that the government of Daniel Novoa is violating the right
21:55of indigenous communities to protest. Human rights violations that breached international standards
22:01and national laws have been reported during the protest. In this regard, international organizations
22:07pointed out that the law enforcement forces infringed the law on the legitimate use of force and the
22:14United Nations international covenant on civil and political rights which obliged the state to
22:19guarantee the right to peaceful social protest and establish limits on repression. In this scenario,
22:25international bodies demanded impartial investigations, transparency and dialogue to prevent further abuses.
