Hundreds gather for a vigil for Pheobe Bishop in Gin Gin last night

Hundreds of people have come together in the Queensland town of Gin Gin for a vigil for 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop who police allege was murdered by her housemates.

00:00There was sort of incredibly emotional scenes in Jinjin last night.

00:06As you mentioned, there was hundreds of people who turned out for this vigil in a small park.

00:11They were all wearing brightly coloured clothing, playing some of Phoebe's favourite music,

00:16laying flowers, putting down photos and sharing their thoughts and memories of this much-loved

00:2217-year-old.

00:24A number of people addressed the crowd who gathered there, including Phoebe's sister Kaylee

00:30and as well as her mother, Kylie Johnson.

00:33Kylie spoke of her magical and free-spirited daughter and also showed a moment of incredible

00:39grace in awful circumstances by asking the community of Jinjin and the broader community

00:44to have some empathy and show respect to the families of those accused of murdering Phoebe.

00:52Now, this was a very emotional time and it was a great opportunity for that very small

00:58community to come together and to share some of that grief.

01:01And I think because of that success, there may be further gatherings planned in the coming days.
