A council in Melbourne’s booming outer north has quietly dropped plans for a pool after more than 20 years. Whittlesea Council says the proposed Mernda Pool will cost about $120 million, money it doesn't have. It's raising questions about whether councils can afford to fund and operate aquatic centres.
