Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen has requested a report into the missing 90 thousand dollars from a safe at the San Fernando City Corporation, she also warns Corporation authorities against hiding such impropriety.
00:00Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Khadijah Amin is telling the hierarchy of regional corporations that hiding acts of impropriety, financial or otherwise, is to be complicit.
00:13The minister spoke with TV6 News regarding the police investigation into some $90,000 discovered missing from a safe at the San Fernando City Corporation's head office on May 19th.
00:26Any person that is aware of wrongdoing and stays silent is an accomplice and therefore I expect that the mayor of San Fernando will do all in his power to ensure that the truth comes out and we get to the bottom of the whereabouts of taxpayers' money, we get to the truth of the matter as well as some other matters that will be brought to his attention.
00:54She has requested an administrative report into the matter.
01:24But it's not the only report reaching the minister.
01:30While we are in need of a lot of things and from the regional corporation where they have been pleading for roads to be fixed, drainage issues and so much more.
01:44But it's not the only report reaching the minister.
01:47This is not the only incident or issue of impropriety that has been raised, has been brought to my attention and I trust that the mayor and the CEO will do what is necessary to bring the truth to light.
02:05Amin is asking the public to come forward with any information regarding similar acts.
02:11We cannot be sweeping things under the carpet if we want performance and we want to maximize the use of taxpayers' dollars.
02:19We cannot be condoning these things.
02:22And anybody who condones wrongdoing to protect the image of their corporation or the image of their organization, you are an accomplice in thiefing taxpayers' money.
02:34That is what it is. Any sort of wastage, any sort of impropriety, this leads to taxpayers' money going down the drain.
02:42The funds in question are remittances, fees and taxes collected between April 30th and May 16th.
