00:00Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadija Amin is refuting the Port of Spain City Corporation's claim
00:08that there is a delay in the payment of June's salaries due to non-receipt of funds.
00:14I was rather taken aback last evening when I saw circulating a memo from the CEO of Port of Spain
00:22Corporation
00:22addressed to the union that represents the monthly paid officers of the Port of Spain Corporation
00:29informing them that they will not have monies to pay salaries.
00:35To the point where I thought this was some kind of fake memo,
00:40there is absolutely no basis for any corporation to threaten workers or to not pay workers.
00:49I don't know on what assumption the CEO of Port of Spain Corporation went to make this memo
00:58send this memo to the union.
01:00The minister indicates that the corporation did not contact the ministry prior to sending out the memo.
01:07And had the CEO or mayor reached out to us, we would have informed them
01:12because we did receive, as every ministry received from the Ministry of Finance yesterday,
01:18which was the 25th of June, a memo indicating that the process where from Parliament,
01:26it goes to the president, the bill was signed off, the mid-year review,
01:30it comes to the ministry and they send a warrant which says money is available.
01:35Minister Amin is accusing the Port of Spain Corporation executive of petty politics
01:40and she's sending them the following warning.
01:44Port of Spain City Corporation is either misinformed or misinforming workers.
01:51I am in communication with the president of the PSA that represents these workers
01:57and I will not tolerate any workers being victimized by Port of Spain under petty politics
02:04to be paid late.
02:06They have gotten the money, they have received the money to pay the public servants
02:10and they must pay the workers on time.
