Energy Minister Rudal Munilal said at a post-Cabinet briefing at the Red House on May 22nd
00:06
that he would be taking a trip to the U.S. from May 28th to May 30th.
00:11
There, he will have discussions with officials from the U.S. Department of Energy,
00:16
the Department of Secretary of State, and the Treasury Department
00:19
to discuss Trinidad and Tobago's future collaboration with the U.S. in the area of energy security
00:25
and to focus on strengthening ties between both countries.
00:29
He said he will also engage with officials from Shell Global, the Americans' Council, and the Inter-American Dialogue.
00:36
We will meet senior officials of those organizations to discuss with them
00:41
our mutually beneficial interests in the area of security.
00:47
I can also indicate that this comes at a very critical time since we have inherited,
00:53
I think as everyone knows, we have inherited an energy sector in significant decline,
01:00
both in the production of gas and oil, and of course with consequences for the petrochemical sector.
01:07
At yesterday's Cabinet, Munilal said he's hoping that his ministry can build a partnership
01:13
with other regional countries in the hope of rebuilding TNT's energy sector,
01:17
adding the government of Guyana is willing to engage in discussions with TNT.
01:22
Working together in real time on significant partnerships with Guyana.
01:28
We have also reached out, of course, to other areas,
01:31
and we expect in the coming days to get involved in discussions with them.
01:37
With Grenada as well, we have had discussions, informal discussions,
01:41
with officials in Grenada, and we expect that very soon we will make a short visit.
