00:00In response to questions sent by TV6 News, Energy Minister Dr. Rudal Munilal said official correspondence has been sent with regard to one of the new energy policies announced by Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Besessa following the UNC-led Coalition of Interests victory in the 2025 general election on April 28th.
00:19I can confirm that already I have caused to be dispatched in my very first week on the job correspondence to my counterpart in Guyana indicating a willingness to meet at a time convenient to discuss all energy-related matters.
00:39During a media conference in Guyana on Thursday, May 8th, Vice President Barrett Jagdeo was clear on his country's position.
00:47Before the elections in Trinidad and Tobago, I said, and I want to repeat what I said, that right now from the gas to energy project, there is no gas to supply to anyone.
01:06We need all of the gas there for power generation and the fertilizer plant.
01:11Vice President Jagdeo said there is a project that has not yet been approved between Fulcrum, Exxon and the government of Guyana.
01:19One, it's to do LNG and export LNG.
01:28Two, could be to bring the gas on shore for generation of power to sell to Brazil, power, that is the sale of power.
01:39Three, three, to bring the gas on shore for industrialization in Guyana, or a combination of all three, if there is adequate gas.
01:54Guyana's Vice President said it's all about what is best for Guyana.
01:57Assuming Trinidad and Tobago wants to be part of those discussions, to see, then they have, they can, I guess we can have them as part of the discussion.
02:09But we want the most feasible and the most lucrative to Guyana outcome from the use of our gas.
02:18For Guyana, we want, and if it is, as I said before, if taking it to Trinidad offers that outcome, then that's fine.
02:29But we're going to have private investors, so they'd have to make that decision too.
02:34Trinidad and Tobago's new energy minister responded to TV6 News' question about that matter.
02:38I have taken note of the statement by Vice President Excellency Dr. Barajadeo, who sought to clarify the status of their gas-based development initiative and the current limitations given their policy framework at this time.
02:55Certainly, his invitation to have discussions on any role for Trinidad and Tobago will be considered in the interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
03:05The role of the private sector arrangements in that context is noted and is a matter that we will also consider.
03:13Dr. Mounila also weighed in on another regional gas initiative, this time with Grenada.
03:18We are very eager to accept the kind consideration of the Honourable Prime Minister of Grenada
03:24to begin what we believe to be a long-term, mutually beneficial engagement with the government and people of Grenada
03:32on their gas-based industrial future.
03:36The Prime Minister was very eager to have discussions with Trinidad and Tobago on this matter
03:42and I assure the people that those discussions will be held in the very short term.
03:48Prime Minister Persaud-Bissess had announced her administration's intentions to secure natural gas supplies
03:54from CARICOM neighbours such as Guyana and Grenada and not from Venezuela.
