We often hear about sports tourism.

And it's happening in Tobago as scores of Jiu-Jitsu enthusiasts trekked from all corners of the globe to participate in the annual Rolling in Tobago Jiu-Jitsu retreat.

The week long retreat wasn't only about the sport but also treated the visitors a true taste of the beauty and culture of Tobago.

00:00you're probably wondering what's going on here but there's a valid explanation my
00:13name is Joe Moses from Roland Tobago this is a annual jiu-jitsu retreat we
00:18host every year in Tobago in the month of May we attract black belts from
00:22outside the country to come in and teach our local community we also attract
00:26international practitioners to come here and share the knowledge with us and share
00:30the maths with us and in turn we get to share our island our culture with those
00:34guys right now we have Australia Bosnia the UK Canada and the US and we hope
00:40every year to attract other countries to come to Tobago and train with us as well
00:45the retreat is in its third year and for Joe bringing jiu-jitsu to Tobago is a
00:50perfect blend Tobago is just a beautiful island man it's an easy sell you bring
00:55guys here you show them the beaches the beautiful weather it's an easy sell for
00:59sure jiu-jitsu is a mainly a grappling art it's been around for closer a century and
01:06it's becoming a fairly popular sport now in the United States and there are big
01:11competitions year-round and we hope that we can get some of our local guys and
01:15continue to build the sport with our local guys and hopefully go outside and
01:18represent the country one day but there's always room to improve as Joe would like
01:22to see more sponsors involved yes we hope that we could get more local agencies
01:28involved public private just to come and help give a little bit more support so
01:31we could do a little bit more and attract some newer guys advertising for the
01:36markets we always want to add value but of course here always constraints
01:40financially so any sort of support I think can go a long way in terms of
01:44continuing to grow this however the retreat isn't only about jiu-jitsu this is
01:49our third year Anna and I help run the tours because we do two classes a day
01:55then we do excursions right so we do the tours together and it's just bringing
02:00everybody as Joe said to train in this discipline as well as have a good old
02:05time in paradise you know the nylon pool waterfalls and it's just a fun time and
02:11Neve who came all the way from Australia shared her endorsement it was amazing it was amazing it is the
02:18best experience anyone can ever have I would recommend it to anybody I'm a white
02:21belt and everyone here was so friendly and so helpful yeah I would recommend it
02:28to everybody I think if you want to have some fun and you want to get some you know
02:33good fitness in in come to Tobago
