00:00Minister Kujo says some of the challenges still faced in Tobago are in road and drainage
00:07infrastructure.
00:08However, she says it's not so much for central government but mainly the responsibility
00:14of the Tobago House of Assembly.
00:17As such, she tells TV6, to properly address those issues, cooperation and collaboration
00:23is required from the THA.
00:26The minister also explains that government worked on the Tobago autonomy legislation
00:32for seven years, but the bill was not supported by the THA.
00:37It's just unfortunate that in the end of it all, we didn't get the support to pass the
00:41legislation.
00:42Of course, the government didn't have enough seats or enough votes to pass the legislation.
00:48The opposition, after following instruction by the Tobago House of Assembly, did not pass
00:54the legislation.
00:56When asked about several complaints from Chief Secretary Farley-Augustin in the past about
01:01the insufficient budget allocation for Tobago, the minister says it's a matter of prioritizing.
01:08Minister Kujo says efforts were made to accommodate the request for an increase, but they were
01:14refused.
01:15Not just that, we put place before the parliament legislation as it relates to increasing the
01:23allocation to 6.8 percent, which would have been an additional $1.5 billion to Tobago.
01:29And the Tobago House of Assembly under the TPP rejected that.
01:34She further stresses that the Sandals Resort is a major opportunity for Tobago's development,
01:45its economy and job creation.
01:47The Tobago West MP tells the Morning Edition she believes it's an option worth exploring and
01:54it's time to prepare for negotiating and seizing the possibilities.
