00:00All right, I want to bring in Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter right now.
00:05And you know, John, when you look at the season thus far, what an early part of the tornado season here
00:12as we saw a steep incline in the number of tornadoes during the months of March and early April.
00:21Yeah, take a look at that, Bernie.
00:22It was one of those hockey stick increases as far as rapid increase in the number of tornadoes
00:26with several tornado outbreaks during the springtime.
00:29And that has landed us with preliminary tornado reports well above the long-term historic average.
00:35This year's in red, long-term historic average in blue.
00:38And we're going to keep adding to that here over the coming weeks.
00:41Well, because, you know, we're getting closer and closer to the heart of the hurricane season,
00:48the severe weather season and tornadoes, John.
00:50And that peaks the severe weather season in a couple of weeks.
00:54It does.
00:54We went back and crunched the numbers a couple of years ago here at AccuWeather exclusively,
00:59and we determined that it's actually May 25th is the peak, the historical peak of the tornado season
01:06in terms of the day of the year with the largest number of tornado reports over many decades.
01:12You can see that rapid increase during the spring like we've seen this year.
01:15But the point is we still have many months to go here in the tornado season.
01:20And, you know, John, it's always important to review your severe weather plans.
01:25And, you know, we have some advice for you to make sure to keep you and your family safe.
01:30It's so critical.
01:31These can be scary storms, obviously, but being prepared goes a long way.
01:35That's where the free AccuWeather app is so helpful.
01:38We deliver warnings here at AccuWeather on average faster than any other source.
01:42It can save your life.
01:43And, you know, John, this year's tornado season, as we talked about, has been one of the most active in recent memory,
01:49threatening families and communities across the country.
01:52At AccuWeather, our expert meteorologists work around the clock, combining our superior accuracy
01:57and proprietary tools with official warnings to deliver life-saving alerts, often minutes ahead of others.
02:04One family presents our app for giving them the confidence to act fast and get to safety as the tornado closed in.
02:11As they put it, it's more than an app.
02:14It's knowing there are real meteorologists looking out for my family.
02:19Take a listen.
02:20I've watched you guys as you guys have given accurate in advance forecasts in other areas.
02:27We knew what we were looking at.
02:29So that that by just knowing and watching you as an advance, it led me to trust you guys.
02:37When I was being told that I'm in a tornado path when there is literally nothing to give me any indication
02:45of why I should pack up my kids and go and bother a neighbor late at night.
02:49It literally is more and it's more than an app.
02:53It's more than anything to know that there's meteorologists that are looking out for my family.
02:58It's called the AccuWeather Advantage.
03:00We take it seriously.
03:01John, let's talk about next week quickly.
03:03We've got a lot of trouble brewing next week in terms of multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms.
03:09Big dip in the jet stream.
03:10That's going to cause thunderstorms to erupt on multiple days across the plains starting on Sunday
03:16and shifting eastbound into early next week with a tornado threat.
03:20Yeah, and that is going to be a huge problem next week.
03:24All right.
03:24Did you know in 2011, a super outbreak of 350...
03:28...to New York, killing 348 people.
03:32AccuWeather Early continues after this.
