AccuWeather's Tony Laubach reported live from the scene of a tornado in Missouri on June 10.
Transcript
00:00No doubt in my mind right now, without question, we are definitely looking at a very large tornado.
00:04You're seeing this here live again.
00:06This is Unionville.
00:07So folks in Unionville, I know we are going to be talking very close here.
00:10And again, we might get lucky and this might pass off to the north.
00:12That is some good news here, but we never want to assume a lot of times these stronger storms certainly
00:17can produce tornadoes that turn right.
00:21So Unionville, absolutely, 100% take shelter.
00:24There's another tornado right now actually forming just off.
00:27So this is a satellite tornado that just came down here.
00:30So we've got two potential areas of rotation in progress right now.
00:34The large tornado and then this satellite that's just come down here to the south of the main one, which,
00:41again, you can see very clearly is on the ground.
00:44We've got kind of the dust bowl debris.
00:46So two tornadoes, again, the satellite that's just come down.
00:49And again, this is a very large tornado.
00:51We're going to have a really good view of this here in a second, Jeff.
00:53So let's stick with this for now.
00:54I don't think we move from this because, again, we've got it on here.
00:58And this, again, this is a big tornado.
01:00Again, we're looking – we're about five, six miles south of Unionville right now.
01:06This is stout.
01:07This is certainly one of the more stout tornadoes.
01:09It's been a rough year for me.
01:11This easily is the biggest tornado I've seen so far this year.
01:14So this looks very, very powerful.
01:18Again, the radar velocity, the couplet of this now, this is going to put this just – I can't tell
01:24what the name of that town might be, if it is a town.
01:27But it's over 136 right now.
01:30This is going to – boy, this is going to be close for Unionville.
01:34But you're right, Jeff.
01:35I think this probably is going to head north of the Unionville area.
01:39So that – I'm hoping that's going to be good news.
01:43Might be trying to – might be trying to kind of fan out right now.
01:47It's hard to tell.
01:48It's not as, you know, girthy as it was a second ago.
01:53But that is down.
01:58Good.
02:31Yeah, I'm on headset, Jeff.
02:33You got me?
02:46Yeah, I would say it's west of Unionville.
02:48It does look to be lifting right now, so that is some good news.
02:51This was – again, though, we had it at its peak.
02:53This thing was stout.
02:54You can still see – again, I know the contrast isn't the greatest here, but there's still obviously debris on
02:59the ground.
02:59This is now a cone, a full-fledged cone tornado.
03:02I don't – I'm not going to say it's roping out.
03:04It certainly is definitely weaker or certainly smaller looking than it was, but you can kind of see it now.
03:10Maybe trying to lift, but that is definitely a stout funnel.
03:15I don't know if it's going to come back down in full force or not, if another area of rotation
03:20is going to take over.
03:21But now it's full cone again.
03:23So this thing is, again, still just absolutely going to town right now.
03:28This does not appear to be doing anything to weaken itself.
03:33So, you know, take this seriously, folks.
03:36This is the warning verification.
03:38This is exactly why we're out there.
03:39Radar is not going to pick this up.
03:42And you're relying 100% on the reports that we're giving right now.
03:46And, again, this is a confirmed on-the-ground right-now tornado that we are seeing.
03:51And this is now, again, going to be due west of Unionville.
03:59And it's transitioning.
04:00You can kind of see the top of it there going, like, pulling away from the base of the funnel
04:06as that funnel is kind of getting dragged at the base.
04:10But it's roping out for sure, I would say, right now.
04:13So that is some good news.
04:14At least it looks like it's trying to weaken.
04:16I don't know if it's going to fully do it or not.
04:18But, again, you're seeing this.
04:20You're watching this.
04:22Very unique process here.
04:24As you can kind of see, we've got some traffic in front of us here, some of the locals.
04:27But you can see, again, the top of the vortex is dragging the funnel at the ground.
04:32But this is still going on.
04:34Typically, when you rope out, the whole tornado gets skinny.
04:39What looks like it's happening kind of here is from the ground up.
04:42It's kind of starting to weaken.
04:43But there's still ground contact, Jeff.
04:45I could still see a faint debris swirl at the base of this tornado.
04:50But what are we on now?
04:52About five minutes?
04:53This thing's been ongoing for about five minutes.
04:55Definitely not as strong-looking as it was.
04:59So we're going to stick with it.
05:01Obviously, we're going to have to reposition.
05:13So...
05:26All right.
05:33Okay.
