00:00Look up, look down, look all around
00:08Up in the air or on the ground
00:13Come for a walk, come for a ride
00:18There's so much to see, so come outside
00:26We're useful in the bathroom, we're often on the floor
00:32We come in different shapes and sizes, so
00:37Some of us like painting, while others like to clean
00:43All sorts of things
00:45What are we? Do you know?
00:48We're brushes
00:51Hello, my dears
01:01My sister Ede is coming round today
01:03So I'm tidying up before she gets here
01:06She's very fussy
01:09Listen to that
01:15Pippin's got her friends round
01:20They're playing
01:22Pippin's got her friends
01:40Pippin, come here! Look at you! What a mess! You need a good brushing before Edie sees
02:04you. Look, I haven't got time to brush all of you. Go on, you two. Off you go. That's
02:12enough playing for today.
02:20Pippin enjoys this. Her brush has lots of bristles. They brush away the dirt and make
02:29her hair look neat and tidy, just like your hairbrush does. There. That's better. Now,
02:39go and sit in your basket while I finish tidying up.
02:47When there's cleaning to be done, there's a way to make it fun. Sing a little song, it
02:56will help you along.
03:00Sweep, sweep, sweep the path. Wash the dishes to keep them clean. Scrub the lawn, scrub it
03:09well. This will be the cleanest house we've ever seen.
03:17Sweep, sweep, sweep the floor. Wash the teapot to keep it clean. Scrub the loo, scrub it
03:25well. This will be the cleanest house we've ever seen.
03:30Brushes are very good at sweeping up all those little bits of dirt because the bristles are
03:53thin and quite sharp. These bristles are made from coconuts. I'll show you. This is a coconut.
04:16And these are the coconut fibres which make the bristles on the brush. I remember the day
04:27I bought this brush. It all started one morning when Pippin was getting under my feet.
04:37Oh, dear. Look at this old brush. I really must buy a new one. Pippin, it's time to fly.
05:06And so off we went to find a new brush.
05:19On the way we flew over the seaside and saw lots of boats.
05:24Soon we arrived at a factory where they make all sorts of brushes and brooms. Hello.
05:43I found some coconut fibres. They'd come all the way from India.
06:02They use a plastic base to hold all the fibres. That's where the fibres go. And this is the handle.
06:14This machine punches holes in the plastic. Then it sticks clumps of fibres in the holes to make the bristles.
06:30They're trimmed so they're all the same length.
06:47It was exactly the kind of brush I needed.
06:59Then I saw a machine making brushes for dogs.
07:20These fibres are made from PVC, a sort of plastic.
07:25They didn't grow like the coconut fibres. They were made by machine.
07:31This base is made of wood.
07:40Holes are punched in the wood.
07:43And the fibres are glued in the holes to make the bristles.
07:50The dog brushes have a strap to make them easier to hold.
07:54I decided to buy one for Pippin.
07:59And that's when I noticed she wasn't there.
08:03Where was she?
08:05It's in the bonito tuldy!
08:07Then I spotted her.
08:08Getting up to mischief by the look of it.
08:09It's in the Wrong somethin'.
08:10Then I spotted her.
08:24Getting up to mischief by the look of it.
08:31I spotted her, getting up to mischief by the look of it.
09:02Thank you. Goodbye.
09:09We only went out to buy one brush, but we came back with hundreds.
09:19Still, they've all been very useful.
09:22Oh, Pippin!
09:33You remind me of a story about a young boy and some brooms.
09:38They made a terrible mess.
09:41Let me see if I can remember it.
09:44Once upon a time, in an old castle,
09:48there lived a very old man who had magical powers.
09:52He had a young boy helping him.
10:03Well, he was supposed to help.
10:07But in fact, he was very lazy.
10:12One day, the old man told the boy to fill a big pot with water
10:18while he went out.
10:22The boy fetched two buckets of water and tipped them into the pot.
10:30Phew! This is hard work, he thought.
10:35There must be an easier way.
10:39Then, he noticed the broom.
10:43He waved his arms at the broom and said the magic words he'd often heard the old man say.
10:50And suddenly, the broom began to move.
10:55It picked up the buckets and off it went.
11:02The lazy boy settled down and went back to sleep while the broom did his work for him.
11:11Suddenly, the boy woke up.
11:27Water was lapping round his ankles.
11:29The pot was overflowing.
11:32The pot was overflowing.
11:34Stop! shouted the boy.
11:36But nothing happened.
11:39He waved his arms and said some magic words.
11:43But he said the wrong words.
11:44And to his horror, the broom became two brooms.
11:51Then four.
11:53Then eight.
11:55Soon it seemed as if a hundred brooms were marching back and forth with their buckets.
12:01The water rose higher and higher.
12:06The boy was swimming for dear life when the old man returned.
12:14He quickly said the magic words.
12:18The water drained away and the brooms disappeared.
12:22And there stood the boy.
12:26Dripping wet and in deep trouble.
12:41I wonder what happened to him after that.
12:44Oh!
12:46That'll be easy.
12:47Pippin!
13:11You two again!
13:15Pippin!
13:21Just look at you!
