00:00A calm and more reserved Philip Alexander tells the Morning Edition his party's executive has discussed the merger of his party with the United National Congress at length.
00:12He holds the view that the progressive policies now adopted by Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa inspired this possible move.
00:21According to Alexander, it just makes sense.
00:24She repositioned herself very much as a center party and took on a lot of our policies to the point where it no longer made sense having two parties pretty much advocating for the same thing.
00:38It may make more sense to just merge our movement to the UNC.
00:44He stresses, however, there have been no discussions with the UNC on the matter, but his executive has spoken on it and are ready to proceed in that direction.
00:56Alexander says the UNC and the Coalition of Interests are aware that there is a lot of work ahead and are ready to get started.
01:04She has assembled a formidable team. These are accomplished people. These are people that can fix it. These are people that can deliver. You're right, we have no honeymoon.
01:17You don't have the luxury of a honeymoon in a country where the economy is failing. That's the reality.
01:22Meanwhile, former MP for Mero Russian Parry says he has no desire to see anyone fail and wished the party success.
01:31He says the party's election victory did not come as a shock.
01:36The campaign that we did in June, it created a good fundamental platform that the party listened.
01:43And I think a lot of changes were seen in the run-up to this election. And we had a marvellous campaign as well.
01:49I think the 2025 general election campaign, it was far beyond anything that the PNM put out there.
01:56So the results of the election wasn't surprising to me. The win wasn't surprising.
02:00Parry explains that he is willing and ready to serve his country if he is called to do so, adding that the issue or the challenge he felt they had in the past arose out of the UNC's ability to manage the internal organs of the party.
