00:28election observers arrived in the country and tnt won big at the carifter games as per usual if it
00:36was happening it was on six let's get right into it the election race intensified this weekend with
00:44both the pnm and the unc claiming to be leading in the polls political parties including the nta went
00:51all out for their last rallies before the april 28th general election the national transformation
00:58alliance took off first on saturday through a motorcade indigo martin it made its way into st james
01:10after navigating through the traffic the motorcade continued its journey heading towards its final
01:14destination the larry gom stadium in arima meanwhile at the edihad ground in tiger rico team read the
01:23people's national movement for what is its largest campaign before the big day when our cameras
01:29arrived people were still gathering but there was yet another shocker in this election race
01:35as united national congress member of parliament anita haynes stepped out in an unusual color
01:42matching that of unc dissident dinesh rambley haynes told the media she has always maintained that she
01:48will put country first and to refer to her presence there as a continuation of what she has stood for
01:54which is that it is possible to work together haynes further hinted that her membership in the unc was long
02:00over but indicated that she may speak on the issue in more depth in future meanwhile the yellow team the
02:07united national congress gathered at the orangwest savannah this year's young king's winner squeezy
02:13ranking performed early at the event although acting commissioner of police junior benjamin opened a
02:29priority bus route from 10 a.m to 10 p.m on saturday to facilitate the activities by the various parties
02:35motorists still faced significant delays with slow moving or standstill traffic along the bus route
02:42both the pnm and unc rallies commenced at 3 p.m alicia boucher tv6 news unc political leader kamla
02:52pasal besessa addressed thousands of supporters on saturday and took the opportunity to thank all her
02:59loyalists even as she acknowledged that she has made some mistakes that my body
03:04may appear frail and small but inside this body is the mind and heart of a mother that is filled with love
03:18i have been and will always be a mother to all of you was i perfect no i wasn't and humbly says sorry
03:35to my loyal rank and file membership and friends for that i did make some mistakes but as a good mother
03:44i was never i was never ashamed to be with you because i am unc and i am proud we are unc and we are proud
03:55meantime another former unc mp attended the pnm's political rally and urged everyone to vote for the pnm
04:03some of you the journey to the polls may not be an easy one on monday but do not let any kind of fear
04:13or intimidation stop you from going to vote on monday
04:17i ask you to stand tall i ask you to persevere hold your heads high
04:27and when you get into the voting booth when you get into the voting booth it will be you and it will be
04:40your god no one else just you and god and ladies and gentlemen in that moment when you are with your god
04:52in that voting booth but trinidad and tobago first the national security minister expressed confidence
05:00in the capabilities of the police service and the defense force to ensure the safety and security of
05:07the general election this after the acting top cop announced a possible threat to the election
05:14tv6 users sought responses to acting police commissioner junior benjamin's announcement on tuesday
05:20that the trinidad and tobago police services intelligence says things are foot to disrupt the
05:26electoral process and we would be taking a no tolerance a zero tolerance in dealing with that
05:34certain things have come to our attention and we are saying based on the things that have been brought
05:40to our attention that anyone that seeks to break the law as relates to the elections or anything
05:49dealing with the the the offenses under uh the the elections we are going to deal with that decisively
05:56tv6 users spoke with the political leader of the national transformation alliance former police
06:01commissioner guy griffith who is his party's candidate for the saint joseph constituency saying
06:07that the phrase zero tolerance is outdated mr griffith recalled the planning for the police for the 2020
06:13general election when he was the top cop and said nothing like that has been done thus far for the
06:202025 general election mr griffith also wanted clarification from the acting police commissioner
06:27if it is intelligence has proven this but you but what you have done now you've made a public statement
06:32just to basically that can cause more fear and more panic and was it necessary if it is your intelligence
06:38that um would have provided this should you not have just dealt with it monitor it or do you feel
06:44that by telling the public it is going to to give some degree of support to assist them in reducing the
06:50threat and if that is not the case why have why make it public in the first place that can cause problems
06:56that can cause issues uh so i am very confused he needs to make he needs he has a lot of explaining to do
07:02tv6 news also sought a comment from dr rudal munilal the candidate for oropouch east for the united
07:08national congress who has often spoken on behalf of the unc on issues regarding national security we are
07:16calling on the police to maintain order ensure that the process is fair and not tainted um i cannot doubt
07:24or confirm intelligence reports uh received by the police but one believes that the police would be
07:32taking those matters seriously at this stage there is no intention to discuss these matters with law
07:38enforcement but continue to monitor and be vigilant as to the elections in response to questions sent by tv6
07:47news national security minister marvin gonzalez said that he can confirm that he was briefed on the matter
07:54and he is satisfied that the ttps with the support of the ttdf the trinidad and tobago defense force
08:00will deploy all resources of the state to protect the electoral and democratic process and to ensure
08:07it's carried out free and fair mr gonzalez is the people's national movement's candidate for aruka
08:14lopino the elections and boundaries commission issued a post on their facebook page on wednesday
08:18warning the public to avoid any offenses that would prevent voters from casting their ballots
08:25in the general election on april 28th jewel brown tv6 news meantime the caracom observer mission said
08:34it is not here to interfere with the electoral process but will be looking out for anything
08:39suspicious caracom said the observer missions final report will be shared with the government
08:45the leader of the opposition and the election and boundaries commission however the chief of the mission
08:51said they will be presenting their preliminary findings to the media as well the day after the general
08:57election we we simply report what we see and if there is a need to flag anything that looks
09:07suspicious then of course we would chief of mission of the caracom secretariat election observer mission
09:13ian hughes as he told the media that if the mission observes what he called malpractices that go
09:19outside of the remit of the law with regard to the general election in trinidad and tobago they
09:24will be included in the recommendations in their final report and it is um hopefully made public so
09:31that those of you in the media will have access to that so that's our remit we are not there to interfere
09:39but we will observe we will ask questions based on what we see but not questions that are going to be
09:49um intrusive to come across as though we are interfering the caracom observer mission had
09:55originally invited the media to a meeting at the hilton trinidad hotel but it turned into a media
10:00conference there should be six teams and moving throughout five in trinidad and there's a team in
10:06tobago moving throughout the well as best we can um the length and breadth of all of the constituencies
10:12as i said east west north south and central uh within the time frame that's allotted for voting
10:18and of course um staying for the um the count at the various locations he said they are credited to
10:26observe activities and polling stations but also to observe what is happening outside of them as well
10:33as for tobago in particular um i i know we will be going to tobago east that's one of the areas that we
10:40we were told that is um a marginal so we will visit there but um we will also visit um tobago west and
10:51of course as many of the polling stations a question was posed to mr hugues about a dossier the caracom
10:58observer mission received from the unc during their meeting with the party on tuesday i would not want to
11:05be premature by making any statement that would be inaccurate so we are taking our time to go through
11:12that dossier and as i said once we um by tuesday of next week and we have our press conference we would
11:24be in a position to make any sort of statement regarding regarding that the office of the prime
11:31minister said prime minister stuart young met with the caracom election observer team and separately with
