00:00The city 68-14 during the season they tied the 72-73 Celtics for the sixth best record in the history of the sport they won the West by just a staggering 16 games and here they are trying to take that next step to what they hope is going to be a championship season as we're off and running here in Memphis in game three Scottie Pippen Jr. rough shooting start for him for the first two games
00:30a little bit short and this is you know better than anyone when you're supporting cast players usually play better at home will that be the case tonight for the Grizzlies yes but regardless of where you're at your go-to player set the tone they set up the those others to be able to play well and be in great position and these friendly baskets usually the ball goes in you get the friendly bounce not bad time for Scottie Pippen Jr. this is off the bottom of the
00:59basket so a little break for Memphis and an underneath out of bounds for the Grizzlies and I mentioned earlier that they're being outscored by 64-37 in that first quarter the Thunder have not started well last game it was 4-4-4-6-4 but then they go in this burst in that mid to first quarter and the Grizzlies have not been able to answer that
01:22it was going to be bumped and he's going to shoot free throws looks like Chet Holmgren took a shot as he bore the brunt of that collision
01:30and Zach Edie to the free throw line
01:33and saw Isolo and his coaching counterpart Mark Dagnall at the chess match between those two the whirlwind for Isolo
01:40took over March the 28th for Taylor Jenkins who was
01:45showing the exits
01:46trying to figure out some kind of way to push some of the right buttons against this juggernaut
01:52of an Oklahoma City team
01:54and with nine games left in the regular season
01:57coach Isolo takes over at the time Memphis number four tied for number four in the west
02:05and so let's see what they can do
02:08to get back to playing the way with the amount of pace and energy and getting up and down the court
02:15that they did in the regular season that's their goal in this first quarter is to set the tone
02:19he's a low guy who was really a complete unknown in NBA circles when Memphis hired him to be one of Taylor Jenkins top

02:41So it's a big scoring game for the season
02:44and we saw this Thunder defense Moran steps back
02:48so both teams a little bit off from the outside
02:53Thunder has missed their first two
02:55and the Grizzlies oh their first three
02:58it seems like both of these teams are due
03:01as SGA pats himself on the butt
03:04hasn't shot a great percentage in this series but he still
03:08does so many SGA things that maybe don't show up in the stat sheet but again
03:13Grizzlies shooting 32 percent from beyond the arc
03:16they've got to be able to get some of these to go down
03:20for them to be able to to battle against this Thunder team

03:56as Desmond Bain has whistled for his first
03:58and right here SGA doing SGA things you can tell
04:00is a point of emphasis to get him back to that mid-range
04:03shot a lot of threes in those first two games and they need him in the paint
04:07and then again John Moran this is what we're used to seeing him getting into the paint
04:12and making the defense pay because he elevates so high on his jump shot
04:17you know we talked to both coaches and one of the things that Isolo told us
04:22he agreed with you pace is just really something that has been their strength all season
04:27and offensive rebounding but he said the turnovers that we've committed
04:31the 22 in game one they've really neutralized what has been an advantage for this memphis team
04:36and of course it all starts with how good the thunder is defensively
04:39and let's just be honest this is not a great matchup for memphis this is going on they have a
04:4911 game win straight going back to playoffs and regular season combined from last year
04:55in terms of percentages they shoot 40 percent from beyond you know from the field against this thunder defense
05:02Moran to the ring a little bit of body bumping down low no whistle
05:06run-out opportunity as the grisneys get back holmgren underneath to hartenstein
05:12far side corner to dort career best season from three missed it and desmond bain is saved
05:19and that right there sets the tone you get that rebound you don't give the thunder another opportunity
05:24on goal and you're able to get out against not a set defense
05:30desmond bain up top he took a little bit of a bump from the back and the loose ball to dort
05:35and the officials well he said traveling violation probably just pointed the wrong way so it looks
05:42like it's going to stay here with memphis as they will put 14 seconds on the shot clock

05:53you got tony allen you need this grizzlies team to kind of take a page out of the houston rockets book and
06:00impose their will a little bit make this a physical game because that's what they need to do to slow
06:05this thunder down for fluidity jackson boy a thing of beauty the footwork the spin

06:13here comes sga the little hesitation and over and that 80 gets it from the back
06:21just an amazing defensive recovery with all that length

06:47and a side out of bounds for memphis well this right here has got to make coach isolo happy
06:54establishing jaron jackson jr in the paint he's a tough operator in there and then again ed getting out on the block

07:50substitution just past the eight minute mark isaiah joe will wait to check in at the table for mark
07:55dagnall 756 to play in his first quarter a memphis team that lost almost in historic fashion in game
08:05won by 51 points can they make this a series sga misses from the elbow and edie rips the rebound
08:12underneath but those are shots that we're accustomed to seeing sga knocked down in his sleep
08:18right here pippen jr knocking down a much needed three i questioned the big fella big edie the other
08:39day i said big fella is the speed of the game too much for the physicality he said i'm still adjusting
08:44to it but he's having fun cams is off to a fast start tonight with a couple blocks a couple rebounds
08:50yes the biggest thing in your first playoff series is adjustment and game one boy to to have that be
08:56your first ever experience in a playoff you're going to be able to keep his head as sga is so smooth with
09:02that left hand edie did a great job of just staying poised doing his job and and adjusting and he
09:09getting to that block early just shows that his activity level is different today sga forward ending
09:15at 801 and pippen jr already he's got his second three ball
09:22nine point grizzlies lead and now he's got to contend with sga at the other end of the floor

09:35offensive rebound jacob his second on this trip and initially the grizzlies doing a great job of

10:55another three for the grizzlies this is a great sign seeing the ball going around
11:00memphis for being in from deep sga trying to lean in to create this space just so crafty so resourceful
11:08and a much better start tonight than we've seen from sga in the series pippen red hot
11:19keep in mind memphis for all of their struggles the first two games as sga hits again and that's
11:26the scary part the thunder have dominated this series with sga
11:33not shooting great from beyond the arc not shooting great from mid-range 413 in game one
11:3810 of 29 in game two we're not accustomed to seeing that but then you got pippen jr
11:45knocking down his second three on the day i mean the third three on the day excuse me
11:54candace we have to remind ourselves again because they started so poorly the first two games memphis
11:58was the number two scoring team in the league this season nearly 123 points per game
12:05and so we know that they've got the firepower
12:07but can they continue with this okay pippen jr i think you should guard him right there heating up
12:15four of four from beyond the arc memphis has hit five straight from deep and now both teams starting to cook
12:28a nine point game as we cross the five minute mark left in this first quarter
12:32this is going to get jadeline williams on a reach in here as pippen jr creating all kinds of havoc

14:06offense for this struggling grizzlies teams that's shooting only 38 in the series 32 from beyond the
14:13arc as colchard knocks down another one this is exactly what the grizzlies hope for coming back home
14:22sleeping in your own bed being able to be familiar with the rims jaron jackson jr knocked it down the
14:29thunder have relied so much on the extra effort in the extra play scotty pippen jr known to lock up
14:36has done a great job of sga on the series but now he's doing it on the offensive end as well
14:42sga boy just masterful here at the start the little hesitation maneuver to create the space

14:53see what he's done so far the other thing to keep in mind with memphis remember they missed their first
14:5710 shots of game two before they finally were able to turn it on job found some things with his
15:04offense in the second quarter and they are still scalding hot and the grizzlies hitting their seventh

15:16unbelievable they hit 10 in game two as aldama he's able to connect let's see who the officials get
15:23here with holmgren trying to chisel his way to the basket diagonal electing to go small with chet
15:30holmgren at the five with their feisty guards alex caruso usually draws the assignment of the four
15:38four so chet holmgren who was just magnificent in game two at the free throw line to get this thing

16:34ways what a luxury to have joe come in off the bench wall as caruso really doing a great job of
16:40providing energy and effort on the defensive end and then you got home right
16:45it looks like he got fouled on that play official said that aldama got him cleanly
16:53look at memphis the slow start and what they've done since they're going to get sga here
16:59as jackson trying to attempt to catch penalty situation with the thunder over the limit
17:06as john morant's going to check back in you have to assume that his rests are going to be very brief

17:17and you've got to think that memphis has to establish themselves in the post against this lineup
17:23it's going to be crucial for them to not get live ball turnovers to get the thunder out into fast break

17:36in game two and fast break and that's normally memphis likes to run they like pace but it just speaks to
17:44what the thunder are able to do on the offensive end but using that number one defensive rating
17:49in the nba to get some easy looks in secondary and transition jaron jackson now 25 years of age in
17:56his seventh season one time nba all-star one-time defensive player of the year beautiful backdoor cut
18:04caruso up high with that just terrific movement everyone in constant motion
18:11well doma gonna get him reset this is jackson drawing the assignment of jaron i'd like to pitch the ball a
18:24little bit closer to the basket so he has an advantage against an underside undersized alex caruso

19:15we haven't seen him draw the number of fouls that he draws during the regular season in this series

19:24you overplay that left side he can go right he needs to live in the paint he needs to be relentless
19:32in the paint against this thunder team because then that's going to open up more looks
19:37beyond the arc and make things easier for your others

22:08um we obviously knew their their plan of attack was going to beat it right faster so it's got to
22:12get back in transition offensively is the ball now moving like it was in games
22:16wanted to get easier shots i mean we put up 30 points um you know you're going to make something
22:20you're going to miss some but defensively we got to be better appreciate yep oh boy thankfully
22:24looks like j-dub is okay as it takes a nasty spill remember jimmy butler going down hard last night
22:32to call the confusion for golden state to be young and not back up we're going to say the same
22:37thing it's the luxury of having a roster that's average age is 24 right there his team in the league
22:43we asked mark dagnall about it he said look i know this isn't normal for from a coaching
22:48standpoint to be able to coach a group like this so dynamic so talented so young
22:54and so unselfish that the organic feel to this team
22:59there's so much of success is the buy-in
23:03that's what it is it's talent for sure it's depth for sure it's x's and o's but it's the buy-in and the
23:09leadership that you need and the guys wanting to this thunder team has proved time and time again
23:16that they play for each other and they put the team before themselves one or three wouldn't go from
23:21canard then williams again come into the rim they are arguing that ed touched it off the glass and
23:27that the basket should be counted here i don't think they're going to win that argument as mitchell irvin
23:32makes a call at the table they'll put jalen williams at the line for two shots
23:39and see already he's going to earn his second trip to the line here in the first 32 seconds of the quarter

24:45we saw home already defending moran and that time jackson it was too strong inside
24:51and jackson caught the ball closer to the basket it's a lot easier to play against the guard when he
24:55left left left the ground to cover game one and two he was being pushed out to the three-point line
25:01he's really established himself in the paint which has allowed the grizzlies to live where they love
25:07right there's jog it's the sweet right hand floater
25:13so john moran six points three of his first seven he has missed his first three from the
25:18he's going to work against conchar right down broadway making that look easy
25:31moran again now defended by caruso who is switching all over the floor

28:06physicality of the thunder and they've really sought out the paint and we asked tomas isolo about
28:14conversations with john moran who you know looked like he was a little passive canvas at the start of
28:19that game two before he turned it on and he said look we we are constantly having conversations and
28:24he said it's it's really the holy grail of basketball right it's the balance between aggression
28:29and patience but make no mistake the urgency level is as high as it could possibly be tonight for moran
28:39right now memphis holding a 13 point lead
28:41see the free throw numbers so far this case and wallace the bounce this is jaylen williams the kick
28:52out to the other jay gubb and the rebound last touched by caruso and it belongs to memphis

30:59And this is how the Grizzlies want to play they average 121 points per game they want to play fast

31:08Getting rebounds and getting out and allowing their athleticism to show in the open court

32:31against a set Thunder defense they're able to play in the open floor and they
32:36look pretty this is a 24 point Memphis lead which is hard to believe after what
32:45we saw the first two games in OKC as the officials get a loose ball foul here
32:50Jalen Williams knocked to the floor it's on Edie that'll be his first with 527 now
32:59left to play before halftime let's talk about ball movement Scottie Pippen Jr. had
33:04an opportunity to take a three earlier and he passed it up for from good to
33:08great and then Bain just providing energy and effort and selfishness and Pippen
33:15Jr. being the beneficiary of that six of eight he is red-hot
33:21let's check in with Dennis well guys so much was talked about do the Grizzlies have
33:26their legs coming off the playing game now for a whole day off it looks like they found that
33:31you're talking about Candice well indeed they have so far Morant misses or grabs the miss from SGA
33:38chisels into the paint inside Alabama and the roll of the left iron
33:44Curtis Alexander ahead to Joe transition three misses badly and boy the Thunder now
33:50from beef Candice are two of 15 and because the Thunder cannot get a stop because the Grizzlies are
33:58running it down the Thunder's back the Thunder cannot set their defense as Pippen picks SGA

34:27eight today Candice I'd give Zach Randolph all the credit Jack got one look at Zach on the baseline and I got his juices
34:34pumping big shot for OKC case and Wallace hey if I had back up with Zebo and Tony Allen I'd yell too
34:42so that ends a 22-5 Grizzlies run
34:47they look up and they are still in a 25-point hole so they get the three from Wallace and then the turnover
34:52unforced on the perimeter and you don't overreact to that it's not a live ball turnover the thing
34:58about Memphis in the games one in game two they were sparking the Thunder offense by turning it over
35:03live and then having to guard SGA J-Dub Chet Holmgren in transition
35:13SGA working against Desmond Bain who again is playing with those two personals
35:17shot clock at five door high arching rainbow three too much and the loose change corralled by Bain
35:25Bain doing a great job on SGA and then coming in and securing the rebound
35:31officials are going to get Holmgren here on a block Holmgren is arguing that he was pushed into
35:35the path of Jackson by Scottie Pippen Jr. but Holmgren is called for his second nonetheless

35:49well as a result of the Thunder having to
35:53play in the half court set right here yes that's that's the correct call
35:57Jaron Jackson Jr. doing a great job enforcing his will and not backing away from the contact but
36:02the Thunder having to play in the half court makes me feel like coach Dagnold should go back to
36:07Hartenstein he does a great job of initiating
36:09offense able to take the pressure off of SGA and J-Dub
36:14find the Thunder guards for some back cuts
36:17Hartenstein did pick up his third personal so trying to save him
