00:00In 49 states, it's just basketball, but this is Indiana.
00:11The NBA Finals are tied at one game apiece.
00:14The Pacers will head home and get the joke from their home crowd.
00:20I just know Gabriel's gonna be rocking it, and I know how long this city's been waiting, you know, for this Finals experience.
00:27Our home court advantages are different because people are really passionate about our teams,
00:32and their parents were passionate about the team, and their parents before that were passionate about the teams.
00:39Every game is a reset. The basketball reminds you of that. It's very humbling.
00:43It shows you that if you don't stay in the moment, if you don't come play, they're ready to play, you get beaten.
00:52Turn the page, focus on game three. That's the biggest game of the year.
00:57It's been one of the most anticipated finals.
01:07You're watching what greatness is all about.
01:13Back out to Allen.
01:15Just keep it coming.
01:16Three in a row.
01:18And the dream season is now complete.
01:20Anything possible!
01:23West pulls it up.
01:24Welcome to the NBA Finals, presented by YouTube TV.
01:31Boy, do they have pace or fever in Indianapolis.
01:35First Finals home game in 25 years.
01:38Tyrese Halliburton wearing a mic for us tonight.
01:41This the one?
01:48That's cool.
01:48You like that?
01:49That's cool.
01:51He's coming today.
01:52He's back courtside tonight.
01:53He's going to be over there.
01:54Yeah.
01:54Always the big smile on the star point guard.
02:00Starting lineups brought to you by Ford.
02:03And Mark Dayton and the Thunder keep the same starting five that they've had in these finals
02:08with Cason Wallace rounding out the five Holmgren, Gildas Alexander-Williams, and, of course, Lou Dort.
02:14Meanwhile, for the Indiana Pacers, same starting five they've had for every playoff game during this incredible run
02:20as they head into game three of these NBA Finals.
02:23Again, the last time they had a finals game here, it was the first year of this building's existence.
02:29They had a different name back then, but same loud, crazy fans.
02:35It has just been phenomenal to get the feel of how much they love their patience, Richard.
02:39I have been blessed to play two playoff series here in this building.
02:43One that involved the great man Reggie Miller and Oscar Robertson right there next to him.
02:48And, look, everywhere else they say it's just basketball, but this is Indiana.
02:52That is a true, true statement.
02:55And, Doris, the road for both these teams have had rough times in game three.
03:00You're looking at Indiana's 0 for 3 in their game threes.
03:03Oklahoma City's 1 and 2.
03:05Rick Carlisle in our coaches meeting talked about this group playing with force
03:08and playing with an urgency, which he does not believe they've done in the first half of basketball games.
03:13I've got to believe the juice they get from this crowd enhances that.
03:18Of course, Indiana thrilled to get one win, but we're not happy with their performance in game two.
03:24We have an offensive foul right away to start.
03:29Eight seconds into the game.
03:34Gilders Alexander called for the foul.
03:39Remember, they're childhood buddies, these two, growing up outside of Toronto.
03:43And SGA already with a personal.
03:45Mike, there are no friends on this basketball court, especially now.
03:51Well, Nimhart has said that.
03:52We are not close right now.
03:53I think they're going to get a foul on Dort here, Mike.
03:56Level of physicality on the switch.
03:57He had Siakam at the elbow.
03:59And it'll be interesting to see, Doris, if this is the way they're going to call.
04:02Are they going to call it tighter?
04:03Because we've seen some games that are so physical.
04:07Well, this is who they are.
04:08I mean, both teams physical.
04:14Halliburton.
04:15Good open look.
04:16Nembhar in the corner.
04:19And Gilders Alexander will come the other way.
04:21Oklahoma City, four and three overall on the road.
04:24Dribes on Nismith, spins, bank shot, can't get at the fall.
04:29Nismith, the Halliburton.
04:31You know the Pacers are going to want to push.
04:33It has always been one of the keys to their success.
04:37But they have started slowly in the first two games.
04:40Turner, nice move.
04:41Won't finish.
04:42Holmgren grabs the rebound.
04:44We haven't seen smooth court first quarters to start.
04:47Yeah, both teams seem like they settle in as the quarter gets going.
04:50Holger gets the first bucket.
04:52Pacers have only scored 20 points in the first, in each of the first two games.
04:56Wallace deflects it, comes up with a steal.
04:58Here's Wallace.
04:59Turner in pursuit.
05:00Locked from behind.
05:01I think Turner got a piece of it.
05:02But Jalen Williams right there to clean it up.
05:10Turnovers, of course, it's one of the key topics every time.
05:14You talk about OKC.
05:16Meanwhile, Siakam, and that's a good sign, Doris.
05:18It's pivotal, Mike, that he beat that matchup.
05:21If Shea is guarding him on the post, that has got to come away with three throws or a bucket.
05:28He's been fighting over the screen.
05:30A lot of contact there.
05:32Jalen Williams knocks down another.
05:33He's got four quick points.
05:38But I like this toss and then have Halliburton go get it.
05:41That frees him up.
05:42That gets him a full head of steam.
05:46Siakam aggressive.
05:47Nice, soft touch.
05:49And he's got a couple of buckets already.
05:56And a whistle and a foul.
05:57In the first two games, 96 minutes.
05:59This OKC has led for 91 minutes, 23 seconds.
06:02Indiana for 1 minute, 53 seconds.
06:05What I like about this play is Shea already has one foul.
06:08Go be aggressive.
06:09Try and get the MVP with two early.
06:11He did it on that other post up.
06:12Did it there.
06:13If a player has one foul early on, you have the free reign to go.
06:17Williams ball, beautiful pass.
06:20And Holmgren inside.
06:21So Holmgren and Williams accounting for the thunderscoring early.
06:28Pacers 6-2 here in Indianapolis during these playoffs.
06:33See, Arkham spins again.
06:36So aggressive.
06:37That one in and out.
06:39Yeah, but they are establishing him early.
06:42He is their leading scorer.
06:44And inside the free throw line, such a tough matchup.
06:47Holmgren spins and draws the foul.
06:50Turner picks up his first.
06:52And we have our first free throw attempts.
06:59Holmgren in game two made his presence known very early after a subpar game one.
07:11Thunder have hit four of their first six shots from the field.
07:14Well, it's time for try-it free throws with YouTube TV.
07:22Scan the QR code to unlock your 10-day free trial and get your favorite sports and live TV on one app.
07:34Holmgren hits a pair.
07:38Of course, the way this series is now, it goes 7-3 the next five games
07:42here in Indiana.
07:44Alliburton finds Turner.
07:47Dort pokes it out of bounds.
07:48Still paced her ball.
07:53Carlisle saying before the game,
07:55you just, you can't simulate in practice the way the Thunder play defense.
08:08Siakam spins against Dort who backs off.
08:10Pascal Siakam, he's got it going early.
08:13They are making it a priority.
08:16And the pickie comes off a game where he was not super aggressive.
08:19They are putting that to rest early.
08:22Lou Dort connects on a three.
08:25And that's right there.
08:26They're attacking Tyrese Halliburton.
08:28The help has to come.
08:29That leads to an open three.
08:31You've got to be better at that point of attack if you're Tyrese.
08:34Nimhart with Siakam.
08:37And moving screen going to be called on Nimhart.
08:42I like the pressure by Tyrese, but now Pascal Siakam has to help.
08:46Turner's not used to that rotation.
08:48And yes, Pascal gets out there, but ultimately that's just an open shot.
08:52That's a tee-up.
08:55Full-court pressure.
08:57Nimhart, who has become such a superb defensive player.
09:00Gildas Alexander, fakes the pass.
09:03Good ball movement.
09:04Baylor Williams off the bounce.
09:06Dort fakes.
09:08Shot clock at six.
09:09Dort inside.
09:10Back shot won't go.
09:11Well contested by Nismith.
09:13Here comes Siakam.
09:18Tries again.
09:19Goes at the seven-footer.
09:20Leans in.
09:22Good defense from Holmgren.
09:23Turner short.
09:30Allibert closes in on Dort.
09:36Defense!
09:36Defense!
09:37Defense!
09:38Defense!
09:38Defense!
09:38Defense!
09:38Defense!
09:39Defense!
09:40Edwin Williams coming off a good game, too.
09:42And Siakam picks up the foul.
09:44There's a lot of whistles early on that perhaps early, even in this finals, but earlier in the playoffs, we have not seen.
09:51No, we haven't.
09:52But also, watch this kick here by Pascal Siakam.
09:55He gets called for the foul in the face right there.
09:58But he's just trying to prevent him from sweeping through.
10:01I haven't seen that defense too often, Mike.
10:05Holmgren gets it.
10:06Pulls up.
10:07And Chet Holmgren off to an excellent start.
10:10Come on.
10:10This guy is ridiculous.
10:11Just your seven-footer early in the basketball game, off a rip and a run and a rebound, puts it on the deck and gets to the cup.
10:17He's got so much game.
10:19This guy's so young.
10:21He missed 39 games, folks.
10:23He had a fractured hip.
10:24He's saying, I'm in the NBA Finals.
10:26It's time to work, Richard Jefferson.
10:28Time for the AT&T Connected Cam.
10:35Doris.
10:36Watch Shen Holmgren do it on both ends.
10:38He's guarding Turner.
10:39He makes this a tough shot.
10:40He's going to board it.
10:41He's seven feet.
10:42He's going to have the handle.
10:44He's going to look around.
10:45He's taking his time.
10:46Nobody's rushing him.
10:47He's got to split two defenders.
10:49He's got to have excellent footwork.
10:50And he finishes with the jump hook on the left.
10:52Oh, my goodness.
10:54They call him a unicorn, especially at OKC.
10:577-1 with that skill set.
10:59And off to an excellent start.
11:01Ben Shepard seeing his first minutes off the bench for the Pacers.
11:06Obi Toppin also comes in.
11:09Alliberts up top to Shepard.
11:13Nice fake to get rid of Dort.
11:14Now pulls up the mid-range.
11:15Got it.
11:18Always wondering, big games like this, which role player is going to have a huge game to make a difference.
11:24Toppin now guarding Holmgren.
11:30Big old small.
11:31Williams struggles with his dribble.
11:34Shepard also a good feisty defender.
11:36Knocks it away.
11:37Right on cue with a steal.
11:39Here comes Halliburton.
11:39Open court drives inside.
11:41Throws it up.
11:42Toppin gets it and finishes.
11:45Wasn't the smoothest down the hook, but just as effective.
11:48He's got that three-point range.
11:59Can't get that one.
12:00Siakam grabs the board.
12:03Baster's looking to push.
12:06And Nimhor took his eye off it.
12:13So again, here on the defense, the pressure.
12:16We've talked a lot about OKC.
12:18Indiana has a top-ten defense also.
12:21And then the transition.
12:22This is what they do.
12:24Obi Toppin doesn't get it the first time, but that second jump, his athleticism is unique and special.
12:31Rick Carlisle talking about Toppin before the game.
12:34Says he's got some special gifts offensively.
12:38SGA misses.
12:40Siakam snatches the rebound.
12:41Siakam, their leading scorer and rebounder.
12:47Halliburton's first shot off the mark.
12:51But he's got to get some free shots.
12:53If you're those players for each team, you're allowed some free shots as you see the foul for Chet Holmgren.
12:59Tyrese Halliburton's got to find a way to get himself going early and often.
13:02And that's OK if you start off 0 for 5 or 1 for 5 here in the first quarter.
13:07You've got to make the offense feel you.
13:09So Chet, again, handling the basketball.
13:11His off-the-bounce game is hard to contend with.
13:13You see the reach-in for Obi.
13:16And they're going to give him a couple of free throws.
13:18That looks pre-gather.
13:20Why is he shooting free throws?
13:22I agree, Doris.
13:23But on the subject of Halliburton, you guys, how does he balance that?
13:27If the defense, which has been geared to try and stop it, how does he balance between not forcing it
13:33and at the same time being aggressive looking for his shot?
13:36Well, sometimes you've got to force it.
13:38But we're going to take a look at this one right here.
13:39Right there, that's where the foul occurs.
13:41That's a tough and one if you're Indiana.
13:45So sometimes you feel you have to force it.
13:47Sometimes you have to force it, DB.
13:49Well, my point is how about we talk about Pascal Siakam and the rest of the group as well?
13:54I get it.
13:55Halliburton is the driver of the system.
13:57But Siakam didn't play with enough force last game.
14:00What a difference he's played with in his first five minutes.
14:02Toppin misses the three.
14:04Rebound deflected.
14:05Taken by SGA.
14:06Caruso his first minutes.
14:07Beautiful pass.
14:08Holmgren run to the floor.
14:09Poor transition defense that time by Indiana.
14:12And a nine-point lead for the Thunder.
14:19Halliburton.
14:21Deflected.
14:21Good hands from Jalen Williams.
14:22That's now four turnovers for the Pacers.
14:27And then they had nine turnovers in the first quarter of game one.
14:32Gildas Alexander steps back.
14:34Can't get the three.
14:40Halliburton.
14:41The floaters up.
14:42Beautiful shot from Tyrese Halliburton.
14:44Jalen Williams pulls back short.
14:52Mike, he's really struggling to shoot the ball in the series.
14:55Steal by Halliburton.
14:56One man to beat behind the back.
14:58Now Toppin goes inside and lays it up.
15:00And the Pacer defense leading the offense timeout.
15:04OKC.
15:07Let's go!
15:12Tonight's Starwatch brought to you by Amika.
15:22Richard.
15:23And we said it in the open.
15:25You're going to have to pressure Shea.
15:27He has not hit a field goal.
15:29And that allows for transition for the Indiana Pacers.
15:32Again, Tyrese Halliburton.
15:34He got that shot in the fourth quarter.
15:35You have to find the shots that are available and take a steady dive.
15:39And here, their defense turning into offense.
15:42It's a three-on-two break.
15:44And Obi Toppin is rewarded.
15:45This is the way they have to play.
15:47Can we get an amen for some transition in the series?
15:50Four and six points respectively from these two teams.
15:53Been hard to come by.
15:55It's so hard scoring in the half court against both these teams.
16:00We talked OKC defense, one of the best ever.
16:02The Pacer defense has been superb at times.
16:05Mark Stein, Caruso.
16:08Dort.
16:09That high arcing three-pointer.
16:10That rattles in his second three-pointer.
16:12Dort had five of them in game one.
16:18Lead back up to eight.
16:24Hildas Alexander guarding Halliburton.
16:26Good screen set by Turner.
16:29Shepard to Toppin.
16:30Five on the 24.
16:32Pass inside.
16:33Turner shot blocked from behind.
16:34Knocked out of bounds.
16:35Three-point-one remaining.
16:37Excellent defensive play.
16:39Come on now.
16:40He gets him on the switch.
16:42And the ability to just get a hand on the basketball without fouling.
16:46That's six-foot-six and long wingspan helps.
16:49Shepard comes off a screen.
16:51Comes up short.
16:52And Caruso has it.
16:53But if I'm the Pacers and you're Turner, you've got to finish that.
16:56You've got to go up strong.
16:57You have to finish that bucket if we finally get you in the paint.
17:01Good defense there from Halliburton.
17:03Forcing the turnover.
17:04Aaron Wigginson.
17:05Wigginson, Caruso, who off the bench,
17:07both scored more points than anybody on the Pacers in game two.
17:11Both bench is vital.
17:14Hartenstein pokes it away.
17:16Tries to save it.
17:17He does.
17:18All right to Shepard.
17:20Back up top.
17:26Hiltus Alexander once again was on Turner.
17:28Now, Hartenstein switches.
17:30And Turner hits the three.
17:32His first field goal.
17:37Playing in a finals game at home here in Indiana.
17:40A dream come true for Miles Turner.
17:41Defense!
17:42Defense!
17:44Defense!
17:47Defense!
17:47Dort comes to help.
17:48Defense!
17:50Off the dribble.
17:53Great deny.
17:54That was great deny by Nembhardt.
17:56They wouldn't let Shea touch it to organize the offense.
18:02Now, Dort picks up Halliburton.
18:04No hesitation.
18:05It knocks down the three.
18:07Second three-pointer for Indiana.
18:10They are number one in the playoffs in field goal percentage and three-point percentage.
18:17Wiggins, one of the heroes of game two.
18:19Kicks it out.
18:19Dort, nobody near him.
18:20Plenty of time sets and knocks down another.
18:23He's three for three.
18:24He's not an offensive player.
18:30But the threes are always so timely for Lou Dort.
18:34Oh, beautiful move.
18:35Obi Toppin.
18:37Sidestep in the left hand.
18:38He's got six points in five minutes off the bench.
18:42Defense!
18:43Defense!
18:46Defense!
18:46Douglas Alexander gets to the rim.
18:48Blocked by Turner for the goaltend.
18:50Got it off the backboard.
18:51And it goes to Alexander with his first points.
18:55So they tried some high pressure last game.
18:57Shea beat it consistently.
18:59Gets it wisely off the window.
19:01Feeling the backside pressure from the best shot blocker in the playoffs.
19:05Got the two best.
19:07Turner and Chet Holmgren.
19:09Wiggins putting some pressure on Halliburton.
19:12Right back to Turner.
19:14Turner inside.
19:15Layup too strong.
19:16He thought he got fouled.
19:17There was contact.
19:18Here comes SGA the other way.
19:19Wiggins goes inside.
19:27Blocked by Halliburton.
19:29And the save.
19:30Halliburton's made some really nice defensive plays here in the opening period.
19:39Inside Nimhart.
19:41Nimhart back up to Toppin.
19:46Toppin launches a three.
19:48Bounces on.
19:50Yeah, but there's a couple of layup there.
19:53There's a couple of floater opportunities.
19:55I love the shot creation.
19:57But those gaps will be easier for you and your teammates as Shea with the left-hand finish.
20:02The shots will be easier for you and your teammates if you get a couple of these layups.
20:08Nimhart fouled on the double team.
20:10Wiggins picks up his first.
20:13Let's watch the MVP.
20:15The most prolific driver for five straight years.
20:18That crossover puts Nimhart in the rear view.
20:21Now he's got to navigate two bigs.
20:23Does he get sped up?
20:24Does he rush?
20:25No.
20:26He splits him and uses the left hand.
20:28He's so crafty.
20:29Demhart 14 points game one.
20:3211 points in game two.
20:35It's the free throw.
20:36Offcoming national TV schedule brought to you by American Express.
20:38ABC Friday.
20:40Game four of the series right back here in Indianapolis.
20:43ABC Saturday.
20:44Liberty.
20:44Playing right here against the Indiana Fever.
20:46And then ABC Monday.
20:49Game five as the series will go back to Oklahoma City.
20:54Kaitlin Clark watching the game.
20:57Aaliyah Boston on her left.
20:59They've got to get that young woman back on the floor.
21:02When they get them on the floor, they're going to be an absolute problem.
21:09Wallace back in.
21:11As we approach a minute remaining here in the first.
21:13SGA pulls back.
21:16Good defense from Shepard.
21:18A little too handsy that time.
21:20And picks up the personal foul.
21:23Pacers in the penalty.
21:25And right now the Pacers are saying,
21:27if you're going to call that,
21:28that's going to be a foul on every player for OKC.
21:35Yeah, they've been letting that go,
21:37especially in the first two games.
21:39Once you start grabbing the jersey.
21:41That's just saying hello.
21:43That's just saying hello, Mike.
21:46Gildas Alexander,
21:48who has set the record for most points in his first two career finals games.
21:5338 and 34.
21:54He broke his idol.
21:56Allen Iverson's record by one.
21:58Only one player in the history of the NBA finals has scored 30 points
22:02in their first three finals games.
22:04That was Rick Barry.
22:05Way back in 1975 with the Warriors.
22:09As Neesmith checks in,
22:11Nimhard will sit down.
22:12Did you shoot your free throws underhanded too?
22:15I know that was the first few years.
22:17The first few years.
22:18Back then, nobody was shooting over him.
22:20OK.
22:20Set shots too.
22:21Set shots.
22:24This is Alexander.
22:25Knocks down a pair.
22:26Largest lead here in the first is nine.
22:30Right now an eight-point advantage.
22:35DJ McConnell, who has been outstanding so far,
22:37first two games of the finals throughout the playoffs,
22:40looking for some room.
22:42Siakam.
22:43Shot clock at six.
22:45Good defense from Hartenstein,
22:46but a blocking foul.
22:47Boy, he did so many things well on that, though, defensively, Mike.
22:52The things Hartenstein is able to do,
22:54his communication is early, it's off, and it's loud.
22:58He's allowing space for that defender to get underneath.
23:01If you make the switch, that's a hard thing for him.
23:04But this guy, there's so many subtle things he does
23:07to contribute to winning.
23:08It's incredible.
23:12Well, Thomas Bryant set to check in.
23:14Jalen Williams, J. Will, will check in as well.
23:19Halliburton, five points, four assists here in the first quarter
23:22as Siakam now with seven points to start.
23:27And you see Holmgren off to an excellent start.
23:30And Lou Dort, one of the best defensive players in the game,
23:33perfect from three-point range.
23:36Early in his career here with the Thunder,
23:39he averaged 17 a game.
23:41They weren't very good back then.
23:42And with all the talent came in offensively,
23:45he's had to sacrifice his offensive game.
23:47Not a problem.
23:49Off the missed free throw, Bryant.
23:51Trying to hold on, and it's going to go the other way.
23:54They're fortunate.
23:55That has been problematic at times for Oklahoma City.
23:57Just corralling defensive rebounds off free throws.
24:00Well, a team that has won the rebounding numbers
24:04have won the first two games of these finals.
24:07Holmgren.
24:08Part of by Bryant.
24:09Bryant's shaking his head.
24:10Nope, not going to get hit by me.
24:12But Holmgren gets by him and draws the foul.
24:16First foul on Bryant.
24:18Free throws for Holmgren.
24:19I like Tyrese Halliburton's aggression here early.
24:25You have the three, the floater.
24:27He's got five points.
24:28He's got four assists.
24:28When you look at that, okay, that's the...
24:30But he's on pace for a 20-point 10 assist,
24:33and we know that they have only lost one game
24:35when he's put up those numbers.
24:37It's about building brick by brick.
24:39And listen, they are attacking him defensively.
24:43He is having a cover all over the floor.
24:45There's times they're bringing him up.
24:46They're trying to wear him down,
24:48understanding that he is the straw that stirs the drink.
24:51There's a lot on his shoulders tonight.
24:53I love as much what he's done on offense
24:56as how he's fought on the defensive end.
24:58And he's very self-aware of what's going on.
25:01He said that he had two really poor first halves
25:05in games one and two.
25:10There's about a five-and-a-half-second difference
25:12shot clock and game clock
25:14as we wind down the first quarter.
25:17T.J. McConnell gets into the pace.
25:19Spins lost a handle, picked up by Holmgren.
25:22Seven turnovers here at the first.
25:24No fouls to give here for the Pacers.
25:27Knocked away by McConnell.
25:30OKC ball with 6.3 remaining.
25:32The Thunder shooting 55 percent and the Pacers 50 percent.
25:41Caruso and Jalen Williams check in for the final possession.
25:52Caruso will inbound.
25:54Gilgis Alexander, four seconds.
26:00Backs in, falling away.
26:01Baseline jumper won't go.
26:03And that will end the first period.
26:08Strong starts from a couple of key Thunder players,
26:11including Chet Holmgren.
26:14Holmgren with 13 points, four of five from the field.
26:17He's already taken six free throws.
26:19And Lou Dort, perfect from three-point range on all three attempts.
26:29Welcome back to the NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV.
26:32We're here with Chet Holmgren of the OKC Thunder.
26:3513-4 for you.
26:36What's led to the early start for you and the success?
26:39Just coming out and trying to compete,
26:40not worry about anything else,
26:42and let that kind of guide me.
26:44Tyrese Halliburton kind of controlling the pace for them early on.
26:47Five points, four assists.
26:49How do you try to slow him down?
26:51We've got to get in front of him.
26:52We can't let him play in space.
26:54We've got to put a body on him
26:55and then get our team defense in behind him.
26:58Chet, good luck. Thank you.
26:59Thank you very much.
27:00Mike?
27:00All right, Georgia Steel off the Siakam make.
27:02Siakam's going to try again.
27:04Three-pointer.
27:05McConnell with a rebound.
27:07Touch pass inside.
27:08Matherin lays it up and in.
27:10Excellent start to the second quarter for Indiana.
27:14Shea Gildress, Alexander getting his first rest.
27:18They are plus seven with him off the floor.
27:21These are minutes Indiana has got to win right now.
27:26Aldrin aggressive again.
27:28Can't get it to fall.
27:29Matherin the rebound.
27:36McConnell setting it up.
27:38Keeps that dribble alive.
27:41Leans in, takes the shot, falling down.
27:43Wallace.
27:45Ahead to Holmgren.
27:46Holmgren up and foul.
27:49Neesmith hit him.
27:50That's going to be the second foul on Neesmith.
27:55He's had a chance to be quite the highlight.
27:57And Chet was ready to take off.
27:59And those are one of the ones where you go to the body.
28:01Yes, you make an attempt at the ball.
28:03But if you can stop the body from going forward, you're in a pretty good shape.
28:06That's just a good NBA playoff foul.
28:08We don't give anything easy.
28:09Make him go earn two at the line.
28:12But look at the top of the square.
28:14Okay, Chet.
28:15The cliche is so appropriate for Holmgren.
28:21He's just scratching the surface.
28:23And you see stretches.
28:25And again, the injuries have slowed it down a little bit.
28:27But he's got a chance to be a special player for a long time.
28:30This guy is a tremendous shot blocker.
28:33There's times where you don't think he can get to basketballs.
28:36And his speed, his closing speed's incredible.
28:40Now you add the off-the-bounce, the passing, the ability to stretch from three.
28:44I mean, there's very little he can't do on the floor, Mike.
28:47He's got 15 of their 34 already.
28:50And a foul away from the ball.
28:55Hearnstein.
28:57His second foul.
29:00Playing the two bigs.
29:02Mark Dignall and the Thunder.
29:03And this goes as Alexander relaxes.
29:05Wiggins is going to quickly check in.
29:07And now we go from two to one big.
29:09Second foul on Hearnstein.
29:10But we talk about the no Shea minutes.
29:14But there's no Tyrese Halliburton also.
29:16So you have both of your stars on the bench.
29:19Who's what bench, what group can take advantage of this time
29:22and give their stars a more quality rest.
29:25If you're a star and you're coming into the game
29:26and you were into the game and you were up for it,
29:30now you're down two,
29:31the stars got more work to put in now.
29:33Well, stars, of course, what we talk about so much
29:36for both these teams without their bench.
29:39They're not in the finals.
29:43Nismith to Matherin.
29:45Shock lock at seven.
29:49Matherin pulls up, jump shot.
29:51It's good.
29:52Matherin off the bench with a couple of buckets.
29:56OKC's lead cut to four.
29:57Matherin, one of the bench players capable of a big scoring night.
30:02Caruso inside.
30:03Shot blocked by Siakam.
30:05Knocked out of bounds.
30:06Thunder ball.
30:07Siakam's activity tonight, OK?
30:10He had a defensive rebound out of his area.
30:12He comes and snatches it.
30:13Caruso's always lurking.
30:15You lose sight of him.
30:16But the closing speed, the length,
30:18the ability to get over and contest that.
30:20Great job, Siakam.
30:21He's kicked, so now they'll inbound it on the sideline.
30:31But Caruso does such a good job of working that baseline.
30:35It's when you have four out and Chet playing outside,
30:38sometimes you need a man at the dunker.
30:40You don't have to start at the dunker.
30:41You can start at the three.
30:43But as the action starts to move is when you slide underneath the basket.
30:47Like right now, Pascal Siakam, he's losing him.
30:50It doesn't happen, but he does a great job.
30:52But you're going to see Caruso underneath that basket multiple times tonight.
30:58Jalen Williams.
31:02Matherin tries to stay Willem.
31:03Pull up jumper.
31:04Can't get it.
31:05Siakam.
31:06Nine points, three boards, a blocked shot.
31:10And exactly what Indiana needed.
31:11Matherin dribbles it off his foot.
31:17Topham and McConnell play catch.
31:19It's a beautiful pass.
31:21Neesmith moving without the ball.
31:24Stolen by McConnell.
31:25Throws it off.
31:26Wallace Pacers have it.
31:34Smothering defense from Indiana.
31:36With T.J. McConnell doing T.J. McConnell things right now.
31:40My Arizona brother with the little drop of a dime.
31:44Did he hear this?
31:44That's the second time he has stolen the ball.
31:47That's the bench pressure.
31:48The players, the intensity, the crowd feeds off of it.
31:54Kimmy Capers having a word with Caruso and Siakam.
31:58Rick Smits inside.
32:00Off balance.
32:01Can't get it.
32:01Holmgren comes flying in for the rebound.
32:04Here's Wiggins.
32:06Wiggins to Wallace.
32:08Wallace lays it up and in.
32:09McConnell pushes, kicks it out.
32:18Matherin fakes, fires, hits a three.
32:22Matherin seven points and three minutes off the bench on the Thunder need timeout.
32:26This is about McConnell and Matherin.
32:34McConnell, if he's going to be in the league, these are the kinds of things he's got to do.
32:38They have made him a non-factor until now.
32:42Pushing the pace, getting the crowd involved.
32:45T.J., we're feeling you.
32:46We're seeing you.
32:47Don't want to miss a matchup?
33:00Just tell Siri.
33:01Show me the playoff basketball schedule.
33:07Back in Indianapolis, T.J. McConnell, a spark, the 33-year-old backup point guard, undrafted,
33:1310th year in the league.
33:14Growing up in Pittsburgh, his dad was his high school coach, says T.J.
33:18He coached me as hard as you can coach anyone.
33:21It was frustrating.
33:22It was difficult.
33:23Nights at dinner, sometimes they weren't speaking.
33:25Mom had to be the buffer.
33:26But now he realizes he's not here without his dad.
33:29He's so grateful for all his dad did for him.
33:32And his dad's so proud here in this arena tonight, watching his son have an impact on an NBA Finals game.
33:40McConnell drives inside, can't get it before.
33:42But a whistle and a foul.
33:44He just won't stop.
33:46So what has he done?
33:49He hasn't scored.
33:49He's about to get some free throws.
33:51He's got four assists and two steals.
33:52But more importantly, he's putting the pace in the Pacers.
33:56He has put a ton of pressure on them defensively.
34:00And he's got this group on their heels.
34:02And dad is saying, just like I taught you, son.
34:05Yeah, take a sip.
34:07Yeah, that's the best thing to do.
34:08There's a lot of stress and pressure on the parents.
34:12He sends it over to George.
34:14Mike, let's not forget, Tim McConnell also coached Megan McConnell, TJ's sister.
34:18He wore her jersey at Game 1 here of the NBA Finals.
34:22Although, TJ did tell us that, obviously, dad wrote him hard, as you mentioned.
34:26But when he switched to coach Megan, he softened up a little bit.
34:29And TJ's like, wait, what's going on here?
34:30So, TJ was the one that was a little harder on Megan, Mike.
34:34Well, if Megan made a mistake, the dad would say, that's okay, Megan.
34:37He didn't say that when TJ made a mistake.
34:40That's so proud.
34:41And the Pacers have their first lead.
34:47Remember, coming into this game, they've only led for one minute and 53 seconds through the first two games.
34:55TJ McConnell and the bench.
34:58Instrumental.
35:0017-0 in bench points.
35:02They force another turnover.
35:03Here comes McConnell.
35:04Back to Siakam.
35:05Lay up.
35:06Long goal.
35:06Rebound Caruso.
35:11Gilders Alexander.
35:15There's two for seven to start.
35:18Okay.
35:18OKC sees a little bit out of rhythm.
35:21They've got to settle down here.
35:23Siakam.
35:24Matherin goes in strong and finishes.
35:27Matherin.
35:27Huge sparkle off the bench with nine.
35:33Matherin topping McConnell, getting it done for the Pacers.
35:38Defense!
35:39Defense!
35:40Martenstein.
35:42Defense!
35:43Wiggins.
35:44Running shot.
35:45Missed it.
35:46McConnell tips it, but Caruso right there to pick it up.
35:48Shot clock did not reset.
35:51Five of the 24.
35:51Defense!
35:52Defense!
35:52Defense!
35:53Defense!
35:53Defense!
35:54Defense!
35:54Caruso goes to the rim.
35:55Well defended by Siakam.
35:57Wiggins can't control in a 24-second violation.
35:59Defense!
36:00Defense!
36:00Defense!
36:01Defense!
36:02Defense!
36:03Defense!
36:04Defense!
36:05Defense!
36:06Defense!
36:07Defense!
36:08Defense!
36:09Siakam early.
36:10Now the defense has to collapse, and then you get the cutters.
36:13So it's that early rim run and that throw ahead that they've been trying to find early.
36:20McConnell goes right at Wiggins.
36:22Leans in, tied up, poked away.
36:24Five of the 24, Matherin drives.
36:29Matherin drives and the ball off the head of Matherin on the deflection
36:39look at that bench what a performance so far meanwhile you don't say this very
36:44often Oklahoma City has more turnovers than their opponent nine turnovers four
36:51already here in the second
36:59new tonight on Jimmy Kimmel live the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger plus
37:06White Lotus star Amy Lou Wood and music from Mumford and Sons all new Kimmel
37:11tonight on ABC some of tonight's key plays with YouTube TV where you can catch
37:16up on game highlights right in the app a lot of highlights from a guy named TJ
37:20McConnell undrafted Mike how does a guy at 6 foot 2 190 pounds make his way in the
37:28NBA by doing exactly this he has done this his entire career push up and
37:34pressure be opportunistic on the steel be the smartest basketball player on the
37:39floor watch that touch pass to Matherin who's got a better chance to finish
37:44Rick Carlisle came into this game saying it is not just Tyrese it's about force and
37:50he has brought all of it and mr. McConnell you got to coach your players
37:54differently you did right by Megan you did right by TJ and that is the look of one
38:00proud father McDonald says I still try to play like I don't belong we got a 45
38:06million dollar contract after last year's playoff heroics as we have a whistle and a
38:11foul it's gonna be on Nimhart two fouls on Nimhart Isaiah Joe
38:20Penbridge Williams Luke Dort Jake Gildas Alexander and Jeff Holmgren now the five on
38:26the floor for OKC top in the return for Indiana with Halliburton and Nimhart
38:31Miles Turner also deflected by Halliburton Isaiah Joe three-pointer and that's good
38:38they're four of six from three-point range but is there a need to go double
38:43team him on the block you double team on the block yes you almost get the steal
38:48but you give up a three Halliburton missus Matherin right there
38:52topping off the bounce goes inside Halliburton Nimhart straight on three
38:57pointer got it
39:00there are by the way he's one of the best three-point shooters in NBA playoff
39:10history his brief time in the playoffs
39:14he'll just Alexander Isaiah Joe and Isaiah Joe who led the team in three-point field
39:22goes during a regular season gets his second but that's what happens he gets a
39:26clean look one time now all of a sudden you're you have a job to put a fire out
39:30because of a missed assignment
39:32Turner and Halliburton play catch rifles a pass over to Matherin that's a very
39:38aggressive and a foul on Isaiah Joe before any shot attempt it'll be a side out
39:44now the MVP he knows how to find his teammates he did a great job eight assists
39:50last game and then Joe just a simple pump fake steps into it that's that's easy for
39:56Matherin draws contact shot won't go two quick fouls on Isaiah Joe
40:08well Matherin to shoot two
40:12Matherin is not in game one had five points game two fourteen points got to the
40:20the free throw line seven times as the most points off the bench in the playoffs
40:29that's by the way the fourth team foul for OKC so for the next six minutes every foul
40:40Halliburton five points five assists
40:43Jimmy Capers a terrific veteran official giving him some thoughts
40:47our officials tonight Jimmy Capers Tony Brothers and Tyler Ford
40:54Matherin a great free throw shooter
40:56eleven points in six minutes off the bench
41:04SGA
41:05Kendrick Williams fakes a three he has some room can't hit
41:09Halliburton the rebound
41:10OB top and run on the floor inside
41:15Matherin counted and a foul
41:18Benedict Matherin a spark off the bench or the Pacers lead by four
41:23so to this point getting to the paint has been problematic in this series for Indiana
41:29but when you're playing off misses and can get to your game which is transition
41:35look what happens when you touch the paint
41:38I mean all of this is about pace and getting to the paint and good to great so good offensively
41:47so over the first two plus games this is the largest lead the Pacers have had again
41:51the Thunder have led most of the series
41:54and Matherin 14 points off the bench
42:00a 14-point turnaround
42:02Thunder led by nine earlier now a five-point
42:05Pacer lead
42:07Neymar gets right up on Gildas Alexander and Neymar that's his third foul
42:11they're gonna come with Neesmith oh they're coming with Shepard
42:19again you're showing the body at some point in time though you got to give some space
42:24that's part of the movement that's part of the free minute movement especially if you have three
42:28fouls but I don't mind the pressure because he believes in the next man on the bench
42:32I'm gonna keep this pressure up and make him uncomfortable
42:35SGA to Williams
42:39Dort almost lost it shot clock at five
42:41Dort now has some room topping good job contesting blocks the shot
42:46knocked out of bounds with a second remaining
42:48and their defense has been so good in this period
42:51Oklahoma City City started out one for eight then Joe hits those couple of shots
42:56but overall outstanding start defensively in the second quarter for Indiana
43:00well and DB it's the bench it's 24 to 8 bench points
43:06that's what makes it so impressive has been their defense from their bench
43:09and it's been the offense from that bench and then OB Toppin
43:12OKC has twice as many turnovers as they do field goals
43:16here in this second period two for 12 from the field four turnovers
43:21home run fires away and a 24 second violation
43:33and I think that's the interesting thing Mike is everybody identifies Indiana as a great offensive team
43:39the vast improvement by this group defensively is a big part of why they're here
43:45oh Halliburton with a beautiful floater his third field goal the lead is up to seven
43:50what a second quarter here for the Pacers
43:59Andre Caruso lines up to three and knocks it down
44:04first field goal for Caruso OKC is taking that punch they've taken a punch they're handling it
44:11they've got to stay within it this is not you're not going to knock out this team in the first quarter
44:15our first half Halliburton back of the rim Jalen Williams the rebound
44:22Williams spins nearly lost it struggling to hold on
44:27blocked from behind by Halliburton
44:32shot clock at nine
44:34Williams aggressive draws the foul
44:36well Halliburton is really playing good committed defense well you better they're targeting you Mike
44:43that's the answer the call you're going to bring me up well I'm going to make you go away from me
44:48again there's one block right there I'm going to pressure you I'm going to make you rethink about
44:53coming at me every single time here good job against an all-nba player and look that yeah he was on his
45:00back that's where the foul was and maybe that's that shoulder to the back of the neck the hand back
45:04there that's probably a little bit I thought you were about to sell but it wasn't that much
45:08no I just like the block I like the block but that was a lot of it that was that was a big foul
45:15Einstein's going to come in Holmgren will sit down
45:18Mark Dagnall we were talking to him before the game and asked him what what are the
45:21numbers in the box score that he looks for during the game and he said the first thing is minutes
45:25wants to make sure he's keeping a close eye on the minutes from each of his players especially
45:30the top players Holmgren's played 14 with 422 remaining here in the second
45:37five points for Jalen Williams three-point pacer lead after a slow start
45:46Oliver
45:49Scott Hartenstein on him double team finds Shepard
45:52Shepard Shepard off the bounce the runner wild shot it's good with Hartenstein right there
46:0026 to 9 pacers bench points over OKC Jalen Williams crossover inside top move and a foul
46:10I don't think they're getting out of here without Jalen Williams having himself an offensive knife
46:16and this is a big time drive I thought he was sped up early in game two but that
46:22folks is a big time finish and then just here off the Halliburton pass you get the big on you
46:28you don't get to dance you just got to get downhill and here's an interesting thing like
46:33it's not just Halliburton what about the actions happening after he gets by that initial drive
46:39it's the activity behind that they're getting some stuff off
46:42two-point game three and a half left second quarter Halliburton gets inside kicks it out Shepard corner three
46:53Gilgis Alexander brings it up the floor
46:57find some room gets to the rim floaters often good
47:01a soft touch and Rick Carlisle quickly calls timeout
47:04the Thunder have tied the game again
47:10and Shea Gilgis Alexander he always knows when his team needs it
47:16eyes directly on the rim and just with the giant killer
47:26game four the NBA finals right back here in Indianapolis Friday night same start time tip off
47:32shortly after 8 30 eastern on ABC ESPN deportes and ESPN radio coverage ships off with NBA countdown
47:40at eight o'clock all tied at 51 with 326 remaining Chet Holmgren had a terrific start
47:47Benedict Matherin and a pacer bench with an unbelievable second quarter
47:51and again both these teams have relied on their bench all season long McConnell back in jump shot short
48:07Mason Wallace back in the game
48:09SGA all beautiful spin move and finish gorgeous play from Gilders Alexander
48:21that's just different DB that is just different as Pascal to Siakam with another transition you can't give you
48:28can't get a layup if you're OKC from Shea then give up a transition opportunity and I understand the pacers are the best at
48:35Yeah, that's pacer basketball at its best they've done throughout the playoffs
48:41Hartstein with a flush
48:44Shea is just in complete command of what he wants to do is pace his poise scoring passing
48:55Siakam pulls back Siakam
48:57the other patient with double figures besides Matherin
49:02Halliburton another floater another bucket he's got nine point seven assists
49:09but that's what it is though Mike he's now hit that floater twice when you find the spots and the angles that you can get to
49:16you have to make them pay from that he can get that shot whenever he wants
49:21SGA pulls up loves that elbow jumper that one won't fall
49:27Rebounding numbers
49:29plus four for OKC Halliburton fakes fires and hits
49:34Halliburton from downtown and the Pacers back up by three
49:37He's five of eight from the field his second three-pointer
49:47Williams to drive
49:49And Neesmith just picked up his third so Neesmith and Nimhard both with three personal fouls for the pacers
49:55Tyrese Halliburton is the driver of the system rick carlisle said we knew when we got him we had to play fast
50:02But his level of aggression a lot of dribble handoff a lot of movement the basketball is popping the ball bodies are moving
50:10And when they're in that spin cycle, they are just so much more dangerous
50:16What I like about a DB is so many people have talked about his first half
50:20How he's produced in the first half how he's got to set the tone. What does he do?
50:25He adjusts he comes out
50:26He has 12 points and seven assists here in the first half best first half of these finals
50:31First two first halves. He had nine total so he's outdone himself in this 24 minutes
50:37Yeah, he was he was he was subpar by his own standard. These are his standards people at home. These are he's his standards
50:44Williams misses hunger trying to get it
50:47last touch by Holmgren
50:51The chance okc is is going to challenge it
50:53I'm able to make the decision quickly
51:01Yeah, just bring it up. I just don't think my mic that mark wanted to use it there. Oh siakam
51:07On the slam got fouled
51:09Oh siakam with a couple of free throws
51:11Holmgren was adamant, but the way this is going
51:16I mean listen
51:18To me that's close and it could have been off of
51:22He was asking for a foul chet Holmgren was saying he was getting fouled
51:25That's what he went and told mark dagnoff not who the ball was off of but that he was getting fouled and pascal siakam
51:31You talk about going with force you drive you attack. I love it that you go up for a dunk
51:36We saw chet Holmgren do the exact same thing even if you don't think you're going to even if you're not going to get the dunk
51:42You put the defenders in a position to have to aggressively challenge you and that's where the foul occurs
51:48Jalen williams his first foul
51:51Pacers now eight of ten from the free throw line
51:56So the two all-stars for indiana
52:00Strong first half siakam 13 haliburton 12
52:04But the leading score for indiana
52:07benedict matherin with 14
52:10Goes as alexander has 10 as we approach a minute remaining
52:14Here in the second
52:15Vines caruso cuts inside beautiful pass williams missed the layup but a foul
52:20Siakam doesn't believe it
52:23That would be his third
52:26Yeah, but watch caruso this guy is so smart the timeliness of the cut
52:32Anticipating the rotation and where's my next pass?
52:36So richard you're talking about him lurking along the baseline
52:39But who's been their best guy when they face zone that guy this decision making and feel is incredible
52:45Three starters now for the patients with three fouls as williams hits that
52:49be a halftime coming up
52:50I reach halliburton's bounce back performance will be discussed with malika stephen a bob and perk
52:58Here on the building and gain bridge field house
53:00I'm going to take a look at this
53:06Siakam will sit 13 points four rebounds to assist a blocked shot
53:10Pacers took an early punch were down by nine and led by their bench now a two-point lead final minute second quarter
53:23T.J. McConnell tiptoeing
53:30Whistle and a foul
53:32Hayson wallace
53:34And they're in the penalty
53:40Wow T.J. has got his left arm around and on the base the baseline efficient was james capers
53:45He did not blow the whistle. It was
53:48It was Tyler Ford but the initial contact is T.J. wrapping his arm around case and wallace
53:54He's just got a break there
53:56McConnell meanwhile been fabulous just two points but four assists in eight minutes
54:02And that sparked the bench
54:04It was a great way to the end of the game
54:06Isaiah Joe will come in
54:09Wallace will sit down
54:1437 points here in the second quarter for Indiana
54:18Remember they struggled in the first quarter each of the first two but it may have erupted here in the second most
54:23Points they've scored in
54:25Any quarter in this series so far
54:2728 of the 62 points from the bench.
54:37Boy, Shepard is working so hard to pressure Shea for the full 94.
54:43As G.A. gets inside, left-handed, sneaks it in.
54:48His body is so easy.
54:49His body control.
54:51He's strong, but it doesn't look as strong as he does with his body control.
54:57Shepard inside, blocked from behind from Gildas Alexander, but he was out of bounds.
55:02Pacers get it back.
55:04Again, he's able to have a defender on his hip.
55:08Then he can take another one, and then just the left hand, the extension, the control,
55:13no one ever speeds him up.
55:14That's a long step that he takes to get through that double team,
55:18and then right there, just soft off the glass.
55:22He's got a lethal left hand.
55:24They reset the shot clock.
55:27So, a little over a second difference, shot clock and game clock.
55:34Russo guarding Halliburton down low.
55:38Proud getting up.
55:40First finals game here in 25 years.
55:43They like what they see here in the first half.
55:45McConnell, the crossover, pull-up, jump shot, puts it in.
55:48TJ McConnell, still 6.3 remaining.
55:53No fouls to give this way.
55:56SGA, final seconds.
55:58Puts up the shot.
55:59Won't go, and the first half comes to an end.
56:03TJ McConnell on the Pacer bench.
56:0530 of their 64 points as the Pacers score 40 against the best defense in the NBA here in the second quarter.
56:15These fans fired up.

58:00Greatest Detroit.
58:00And now, if you had any Falcons, this is going toLEX that last year,
58:01obviously we could 1860.
58:02For the sooner and after that, we'll fall off with that because they did not let some show off inside.
