00:00So, this is Andrew Sevener, everybody.
00:03Hello.
00:04And you know me, I'm Raz on the radio.
00:06So, Andrew.
00:07So, we're going to talk about a couple of things.
00:10Blake Shelton's name's popped up a lot around here in the last couple days,
00:13so we're going to get to that in a second.
00:14All righty.
00:16Anytime I looked up information on you, the word Wampus Caddy comes up.
00:22Now, I know what Caddy Wampus is.
00:24That's like tilted, kind of askew, kind of crooked.
00:28You reversed it.
00:29Please tell us what that is.
00:32Okay.
00:32So, that's actually my band van.
00:34That's the name of our band van.
00:35Okay.
00:36We were driving through Itasca after.
00:39Where's Itasca?
00:40It's just in Texas near my hometown of Alvarado.
00:44And we were driving through, and my merch guy was sitting next to me.
00:47We were the only ones awake.
00:49We had to drive through the night to get back home.
00:51And we passed through Itasca, and the name of the football team there is Wampus Cats.
00:55And at this point, the van's fairly new.
01:00We were trying to figure out a name for it.
01:02And he just says, and we've been up for 10 hours at least driving through, and just, it's like 5 a.m.
01:09We're both tired.
01:10And he says, oh, that'd be so cool if we named the van the Wampus Cat.
01:15And then I had this genius idea of, oh, man, what if we say Wampus Caddy?
01:21Because it's like a Cadillac.
01:22It's our Cadillac.
01:23And he's just like, I love it.
01:25We woke everybody up in the van.
01:26They hated it.
01:27So, we stuck with it.
01:28Of course they did.
01:28You woke them up.
01:29Yeah.
01:30But we stuck with it.
01:31And so, now it's the Wampus Caddy.
01:33So, that's what that is.
01:33Is it an actual Cadillac?
01:35No.
01:35No.
01:36What kind of a van is it?
01:37It's a Ford E350 E-Kline.
01:40It's nothing special.
01:42It's like the typical band van that you get when you first start out.
01:45And you had it brand new now.
01:46How long have you had it?
01:47Oh, two, three years now.
01:50Yeah.
01:50It smells good, right?
01:51Yeah, horrible.
01:52I'm sure.
01:53So, I got some other words.
01:55I like when people come up with words for this.
01:56So, there's other cool, like, you know, Catawampus and Wampus Caddy, that's pretty good words, right?
02:02So, you ever looked up some other words, like, name something?
02:04Like, you know what a, like, a Snollygoster is?
02:07Does anybody know what a Snollygoster is?
02:09Sounds like something out of Willy Wonka in the job.
02:10It does, doesn't it?
02:12That means shrewd.
02:13You're shrewd.
02:14So, are you Snollygoster?
02:16I'd like to think not.
02:18No, you want to be shrewd.
02:19Oh, you do?
02:20No, that's a good thing.
02:21It is?
02:24I always thought it was bad.
02:25So, like, if when you're negotiating contracts, you want to be, like, shrewd.
02:28You want to, you know, get things to go your way.
02:31Shrewd.
02:32Okay, well, then, no, I'm still not.
02:33I don't know.
02:34All right.
02:35All right.
02:36You know what Ninnyhammer is?
02:37It's not where the Olympics were.
02:42I feel like it's Harry Potter.
02:43What, like, a Ninny Muffet or something?
02:46Cotton-headed Ninny Muffet.
02:47Yes.
02:47That's Ninny Muggins.
02:49That's Elf.
02:49Elf.
02:50Elf.
02:50Yeah.
02:51No, that means you're a little simple.
02:53Oh.
02:53No, I'm not saying that about you.
02:55I'm just saying that's a word.
02:57Okay.
02:57Okay.
02:58How about flittergibbit?
03:00That's what we're doing right here.
03:03We're chattering.
03:03Oh, chattering?
03:04Yeah, yeah.
03:04So I'm just, these are just cool.
03:06Or flittergibbering?
03:08Flittergibbering.
03:08Flittergibbering.
03:10Yes.
03:10And then there's two more.
03:11There's gormless, which means you're a little dumb.
03:13Not calling you that.
03:15It's okay if you are.
03:16It's fine.
03:16And bumfuzzle means confused.
03:18Bumfuzzle?
03:18Yes.
03:19Bumfuzzle.
03:19I can kind of see that one.
03:21Bumfuzzled.
03:22Yes.
03:22I'm bumfuzzled.
03:23I'm bumfuzzled by these words you're talking about.
03:26Yeah.
03:26I'm going to start using that, bumfuzzle.
03:28You should.
03:29You should.
03:29What if I'm working into a song one day?
03:31I love it.
03:32Dude, I'm going to try that.
03:33You've got to give me credit, though.
03:34I will, for sure.
03:36So tell us, so your journey is through The Voice, right?
03:41So talk to us about that.
03:43How do you get on the show?
03:45So if somebody here wanted to do that, how do you get on The Voice?
03:49Oh, I'm like the worst representation for that.
03:52I went through like three different like back ways to get into it.
03:56I was trying to put music out on my own.
04:00I was in a family band with my mom and dad, but also a full-time musician and also working
04:05full-time at a motorhome dealership.
04:08You're a mechanic, right?
04:09Kind of, yeah.
04:09I didn't work on the engines, but I did a lot of carpentry and plumbing, the horrible
04:14horror stories from that.
04:16But yeah, so that's what I was doing.
04:18And Reverb Nation, I was putting music out on Spotify and all that stuff from there.
04:23And one day, I was looking on it, and it just said, hey, skip the line for The Voice.
04:30Because originally, it's three cattle calls, which is you go into wherever they're hosting
04:35auditions.
04:35You go in there.
04:36If you make it past the first one, you go to the second one.
04:39If you make it past the second one, go to the third one.
04:41Make it past the third one, go to the LA for one.
04:43And then if you make it past that one, then you might be on TV, unless everything fills
04:51up before then, then you're SOL.
04:54But anyways, they said, skip the line for The Voice.
04:58And I was like, I'm averaging four hours of sleep a night.
05:03I'm tired all the time.
05:05I sing for four hours a night and don't get home till three and then have to be up at seven.
05:09And give it a shot.
05:11Threw it out there.
05:13They said, hey, come in.
05:14So I went in and I tried.
05:15Is this in Texas?
05:16Yeah.
05:16Okay.
05:16Just in Dallas.
05:17All right.
05:18And so I went in and I tried.
05:21And I got to talking kind of like what we're doing now.
05:24And they found me funny for some reason.
05:27And they said, well, let's hope you could sing.
05:29I'm like, let's hope so.
05:30Let's hope you like it.
05:31And I ended up singing three songs.
05:34And they said, yeah, we'll see.
05:36And the next thing you know, I got on there and I got put on the third day of auditions for the blind audition.
05:44And I just eked on by.
05:46So how long of this whole process before you actually get before the chairs?
05:52Four or five months.
05:54And in the meantime, you're still auditioning all that time?
05:56And going back to work and playing shows and all that stuff.
06:01So you get on Team Blake.
06:03Blake, I haven't seen the episode.
06:06So talk about the negotiation with the chair coming around.
06:08Who are the judges?
06:10I was a one chair turner.
06:13So there was not a whole lot of discussion.
06:16Was it Blake?
06:17It was definitely Blake.
06:18So who else is judging there?
06:20At that time, it was Adam Levine's last season.
06:23John Legend's first season, Kelly Clarkson and Blake.
06:28So Blake's the only one that turned around.
06:31Now you developed a relationship with him.
06:33Yes.
06:33Through his coaching.
06:34So talk about that.
06:35And I know you did a song with him.
06:36So talk a little bit about us a little bit.
06:39How do you go through that?
06:40Well, like playing the song with him?
06:42Or just like a whole relationship with him?
06:43Yeah, well, so now he turns, right?
06:44Are you like, oh, shit, what's going on with these other three?
06:47Well, not really.
06:48I was wanting to get Blake anyways.
06:50Smart move.
06:51Yeah.
06:52So yeah, it was like you turned around and said, man, this is easy.
06:56And then so we got to talking and gave me a hug, walked out, didn't really get to talk
07:02to him for a whole lot just because he's busy and he's got like 20 other people on his team.
07:08We slowly start developing.
07:10As I make it further along, we actually, I would like to say friends, but maybe people will call it acquaintances.
07:18We'll see if you're friends.
07:20Do you have his cell phone number?
07:21I did.
07:22And then he changed it.
07:23Of course he did.
07:24Have you been to his house?
07:26I've been next to his house.
07:29What, like you drove by or you stalked the hell out of him?
07:31My manager actually owns the house right next door to him on Lake Dexoma.
07:35Okay.
07:36So have you seen him over the fence or seen Gwen out there?
07:41Okay.
07:42So your acquaintances and partners in business.
07:45Okay.
07:46That's what I said.
07:47Well, I did also see him another time.
07:49I went and played at Old Red's in Tishomingo.
07:52Yeah.
07:52And he came out and introduced me and hung out with us in the green room.
07:57Okay.
07:57And then also on top of that, he did like this big like thing where he was practicing for upcoming shows at Tishomingo.
08:05And my fiance was like, hey, we should do that.
08:08I was like, okay, yeah, we'll go up there.
08:10Come to find out, like it was super packed.
08:12And they said, oh, hey, Andrew, come on in.
08:15We got a spot for you.
08:16And I was like, what?
08:18Okay, this is cool.
08:19All right.
08:20And so I got to sit there next to Blake's mom.
08:23Good.
08:24Yeah, he called me out.
08:25He was like, is that Andrew Sevener?
08:27I was just like, hey.
08:28He says, I can't hear you, but hey.
08:31And that was about it.
08:32All right.
08:32So you're getting up there.
08:35You're climbing the ladder.
08:36I'm so close.
08:36You're climbing the ladder to be Blake's friend, which I think would be a very cool thing.
08:40I think it would too.
08:41So now let's talk about the song.
08:42So tell me about the song you did with him.
08:44I did.
08:45I chose and I got to choose this one like pretty cool.
08:48It was All Right Now by Free.
08:49I just kind of knew it.
08:52And I turned to him when we announced it.
08:54And he was after he stuck his finger in my ear.
08:58Yeah.
08:58Oh, you're friends then.
08:59Oh, okay.
09:01Oh, yeah.
09:01He stuck his finger in my ear like three times.
09:04I was just like, man.
09:06Okay.
09:07Yeah.
09:07It's Blake Shelton.
09:08I'm just going to deal with it.
09:09Just out of the blue.
09:10He just went like that?
09:11Yeah.
09:11We were sitting there.
09:11We were talking.
09:12And then one of the producers asked me a question.
09:15I turned over and he just went right there.
09:17And I was like, is that normal?
09:20It is for Blake.
09:24But I turned to him after they announced that we were going to do All Right Now.
09:29And I said, can you sing that?
09:30Like, I don't know.
09:31Can you rock out?
09:32And he's like, yeah, man.
09:34Blake Shelton.
09:35I can sing anything.
09:36Of course.
09:37And so, but yeah, it was super fun.
09:39We got to practice it.
09:40And yeah, it was a blast getting to be up on stage.
09:44And I'm hanging out with him.
09:46And so, yeah.
09:47So, did you win that season?
09:51Talk about that season.
09:52I got third best loser.
09:53So, I got fourth place.
09:54Third best loser.
09:55Yeah, I got fourth place.
09:56Who was the winner at that time?
09:58Malin Jarman.
09:59She was on Team Legend.
10:01So, that season, we had four people in the finale.
10:05Malin got first.
10:07My buddy Guy got second.
10:09And he was also on Team Blake.
10:10My buddy Dexter got third.
10:12He was also on Team Blake.
10:13And I got fourth because I was also on Team Blake.
10:15That's awesome.
10:16Yeah.
10:16So, that's a great experience.
10:18Oh, it was fun.
10:18Now, did you spend any time with Adam or John Legend or Kelly Clarkson or anything like that?
10:23A little bit.
10:26Adam came out and actually talked to us a couple of times while we were waiting to get in and practice for other songs.
10:33Nice.
10:33It was a little studio thing.
10:35He was very nice.
10:35Yeah, but other than that, Kelly met me backstage one time and was telling me that she loved my rendition of Lips of an Angel.
10:46Yeah, but other than that, I didn't really get to see John much.
10:50He's EGOT, so you've got to.
10:52Oh, yeah.
10:52I mean, that's big time.
10:53Yeah, I think they were, like, announcing that, like, all the time.
10:57Like, he was the EGOT guy my season.
10:59Yeah, that's big.
11:01You guys know what EGOT is, right?
11:02No.
11:03That's Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
11:09Right.
11:09EGOT.
11:10EGOT.
11:11He's got them all.
11:12He does.
11:13He does.
11:13All right, so you come off the show.
11:15Where are you now?
11:16You tour in?
11:17You hooked up with somebody on a tour or anything, or are you just still out there just?
11:21I'm flailing, honestly.
11:23Are you?
11:23Yeah, I'm just kind of going out there.
11:25Well, look, you've got to be pretty talented to be sitting here.
11:27Well, yeah.
11:27Or a handsome gentleman like Bob Reeves bring you around.
11:30Well, it took a lot to get there.
11:33Afterwards, I got to quit my day job and pursue music full time.
11:38I tried to write and all that stuff, and then eventually I got hooked up with my manager,
11:43and she was based out of Oklahoma.
11:46And we got to talking, we got to working together, and I was playing a lot in Texas and Oklahoma
11:51and Louisiana, putting a band together, just kind of doing all that, but nothing really
11:57else going forward.
11:58We started to record.
12:00And then I started coming up to Nashville and started to record up there just songs
12:07that I'd written by myself.
12:08And then this beautiful human being, his name's Gator Michaels, he comes into our life, and
12:16he says, hey, man, these songs are good, but I think they could be better.
12:21And he helps, and he consults with my management company and helps us kind of get into writing
12:26rooms.
12:27And so we got into some really amazing writing rooms with a lot of amazing writers, and I
12:33got to co-write every song that's on my EP coming out.
12:36Nice.
12:37It was an awesome experience.
12:39And then from then on, that beautiful man back there, Mr. Bob Reeves.
12:45Yeah, there he is.
12:46And he came into our lives kind of through a family thing, him and Gator know each other,
12:53but also his wife, Vicki.
12:55She also vocal coaches for me and some of the other artists that my manager has.
13:00And so it was all this kind of one big happy family.
13:03Nice.
13:03So tell everybody how to find your music once we get out of here and they want to find
13:07some more stuff out.
13:08Well, if y'all want to follow me on Instagram or Facebook or any of that stuff, it's Andrew,
13:13the number seven, E-R, music.
13:14And if you want to look up on Spotify or whatever you look up music on or YouTube, I don't.
13:22And just Andrew Sevener, S-E-V-E-N-E-R.
13:26That's awesome.
13:27Oh, and we have some cards for y'all to, that's got a link to the upcoming EP that's not out
13:34yet.
13:34And Bob has them, so you can just scan it.
13:38Thank you for coming here.
13:39Thank you for having me.
13:40I appreciate it.
13:40These people that come here, every time we have a new artist or somebody come into this
13:44room, they're music fans.
13:46Okay.
13:46And it's great to come into a place where people actually care about music, especially
13:51new music and excited about new artists.
13:53And we're glad to have you here.
13:55So in the next few minutes, will you tell us your story musically and play some songs?
13:59Absolutely.
14:00I appreciate y'all coming and hanging out.
14:02All right.
14:02Andrew Sevener, everybody.
14:04Thank you for being here.
14:04Thank you for having me.
14:05Well, this first one I'm going to play for y'all this evening is a song about the love
14:21of beer, but how sometimes beer might love you back.
14:28Well, hey, brother, how you been looking forward to the weekend hanging out with all of our
14:47buds?
14:49We could keep it lighter.
14:50We can pull it all night or maybe find you somebody to love.
14:55Well, meet me at a red door, happy hour at four.
14:59I'll be chilling at the bar.
15:01Well, getting loud with the crowd, whatever you're into, yeah, I'm down.
15:08Get your bus because I'm always up for one more round.
15:15Like white on rice, like cold on ice.
15:18I'll be sitting right here, love beer.
15:22Well, there's a pretty little lady just sitting at the table underneath that shatterbox sign.
15:34Well, you start the walking and I'll do the talking.
15:38I already got a good line.
15:40Cause I'm your weekend wingman, best friend in a can, always got your back.
15:46Well, getting loud with the crowd, whatever you're into, yeah, I'm down.
15:54Get your bus because I'm always up for one more round.
16:00Like white on rice, like cold on ice.
16:03I'll be sitting right here, love beer.
16:12Well, you can hang out with Cuervo, but you and I both know your best times are always with me.
16:21Getting loud with the crowd, whatever you're into, yeah, I'm down.
16:28Get your bus because I'm always up for one more round.
16:34Like white on rice, like cold on ice.
16:38I'll be sitting right here, love beer.
16:44Hey, love beer.
16:48Thank you, thank you.
17:03So I actually have a fiance, like I mentioned earlier, and we're getting married next May.
17:10Thank you, thank you, thank you.
17:12Yeah, she's way out of my league, but it's okay.
17:14Yeah, so we're planning this wedding, and it's all about the flowers, and it's about the, you know, like the colors that everybody's going to wear.
17:23And I got one of those little things that you stick in your pocket, and that has to be a certain color.
17:28And I don't get it, but she wants to do that.
17:32And just getting into it, it's like, it's not really about that stuff.
17:39It's about the love that we have together.
17:40It's about the life that we want to build together.
17:42And to me, I feel like people look at country music kind of just on the surface, you know.
17:48They hear about trucks, and they hear about Daisy Dukes, and they hear about, you know, boots and drinking beer in a pasture somewhere.
17:57But it's not really about those things.
18:01It's about, like, the reason that we drive a truck.
18:03And the meaning behind it, the reason why we drink this particular brand of beer, because our granddad might have had it.
18:11And that's what helps you remember them.
18:14That's the stuff that truly is what country's all about.
18:17Ain't a mouth of dance when a pretty girl's in your hands
18:28Swaying back and forth on a hardwood floor
18:33Now it's a hell of a whole lot more
18:36It wasn't about the fish
18:38When I was just a cane pole kid
18:42Drowning worms on the line
18:45By my granddaddy's side
18:47Hell, we never even had a bite
18:50But it ain't about the beer
18:52It's what you drank to
18:54Ain't about the road
18:56It's where it leads to
18:58It ain't about the buckle
19:00It's the ride
19:01It ain't about the smoke
19:03It's the high
19:04Ain't about the boots
19:06It's the miles you put on them
19:08Ain't about your roots
19:09It's the ground
19:10Where they growing
19:11Don't take too long
19:13Round here
19:14Figure out
19:16What country's all about
19:19It ain't about the flag
19:26When you see me taking off my hat
19:29It's the women and the men
19:33Who would do it all again
19:34They keep it flying up there like that
19:38No, it ain't about the beer
19:40It's what you drank to
19:42Ain't about the road
19:44It's where it leads to
19:45It ain't about the buckle
19:47It's the ride
19:48It ain't about the smoke
19:51It's the high
19:52Ain't about the boots
19:54It's the miles you put on them
19:55Ain't about your roots
19:57It's the ground
19:58Where they growing
19:59Don't take too long
20:01Round here
20:02Figure out
20:03What country's all about
20:07It ain't the smallest of town
20:10It ain't the game
20:12It ain't the game
20:12It's the crowd
20:13It ain't the church
20:16Pew
20:16It's the lost soul
20:18Getting found
20:19It ain't about the beer
20:24It's what you drank to
20:26Ain't about the road
20:28It's where it leads to
20:30It ain't about the buckle
20:32It's the ride
20:33It ain't about the smoke
20:35It's the high
20:36Ain't about the boots
20:38It's the miles you put on them
20:39Ain't about your roots
20:41It's the ground
20:42Where they growing
20:43Don't take too long
20:45Round here
20:46To figure out
20:48What country's all about
20:51Yeah
20:54What country's all about
20:59Thank you
21:07And make sure this thing's tuned
21:15before this one
21:16We tune because we care
21:18I learned a long time ago
21:36that love is an amazing thing
21:38Especially when you have someone
21:41to share it with
21:42When that love gets taken from you
21:45I ain't been thinking strange
21:50As a whiskey I've been drinking
21:54It's like the living room floor is sinking
21:58Since you drove away
22:00You took all my plans
22:04Left the picture where you put it
22:08But the memories are crooked
22:12And they won't fade
22:14Night is day
22:17Right is wrong
22:19Every melody's a sad song
22:23Ever since you've been gone
22:27Ever since you've been gone
22:27I'm going out of my mind
22:32My world's spinning upside down
22:35Talking to myself
22:37Talking to myself
22:38Talking to myself
22:39And seeing those in this old house
22:42Hearing voices in my hand
22:46Sound like you saying goodbye
22:49I got a broken record prayer
22:53I say every night
22:56One day you and all this crazy
23:00Will be out of my mind
23:05Thank y'all so much
23:11Thank y'all for coming out and listening
23:13I appreciate it
23:14Y'all have a good rest of y'all's day
23:16Thank you
