George Square is set to close to the public while it undergoes a major redevelopment expected to take around 18 months to complete.

00:22bronze statues will be removed for restoration and placed into storage. Then George Square will
00:27be handed over to the public realm contractors due to be appointed in early May who will begin
00:33carrying out the main restoration works from June. The council have said that while the space will
00:38be closed off during the works they are delivering a public area Glaswegians and Scotland can be
00:43proud of. They said that once it's complete the city will have a modern square with more greenery,
00:49improved lighting and drainage infrastructure and a high quality stone finish to replace the tarmac.
00:56Pedestrian access around the square is to be maintained on its outer pavements
01:00while there will be viewing spaces on the east and west sides of the hoarding where people can
01:05watch the development works. Glasgow City Council assure they are committed to keeping residents and
01:10businesses informed of any significant disruption during this period and reports will be publicly
01:16available.
