Leeds: How safe do you feel walking alone at night?

Strut Safe has reported an increase in calls to their helpline. Do you feel safe walking alone at night? What changes would you like to see? When it comes to street safety at night, do you trust the police or other services to keep you safe?

00:00In Hyde Park, there's been, I think, petitions for like years to get streetlights through the middle of it.

00:05And they still haven't done anything about it, because it's more like, it's the most direct route home as well.

00:11Especially in the darker months, and everyone that I know will go the long way around it, so they don't have to go through the middle.

00:17I think that there is still that worrying concern of going anywhere on your own, really, as a woman, in the night time especially.

00:26I wouldn't walk in the park alone dark at night, I just don't think that's a very sensible idea.

00:30However, we live in Roundhay, it's a really nice area, so I've always felt safe walking along the streets.

00:36I probably wouldn't stick to anywhere that wasn't well lit, but I think that's again just common sense.

00:41I've never had to reach out to the police if I felt unsafe, but I would feel comfortable.

00:46I think the only concern I would have is if it would take a long time for the police to get to me.

00:50I think it was ingrained into me when I was young, really, to just don't, as a woman on your own, just don't do it.

00:57Which is wrong, it's just not okay.
