North Wales: Almost one in three feel unsafe walking in the region at night

It comes as two thirds of women say they feel unsafe alone in the evenings - a sharp rise from a few years ago.

00:06Almost one in three locals say they feel unsafe walking home alone at night, and the same

00:11goes for alleyways. Calls to services like StrutSafe are increasing as more people seek

00:15support. Women are particularly affected. Nationally, almost two-thirds of those who

00:20walk alone at night feel unsafe, a sharp rise from a few years ago. More people are also

00:26taking extra steps to protect themselves, with four in 10 women now changing their behaviour.

00:31Campaigners say more needs to be done to make towns across north Wales feel safer, including

00:36better lighting and stronger action on harassment. Concerns are especially high in areas with

00:42poor public transport, where people often have to walk long distances in the dark. There

00:46are also calls for more CCTV in town centres, and better support for those reporting harassment

00:51or feeling unsafe. Some local councils are considering expanding late-night transport

00:56options to help people get home more safely.
