‘It’s a silly question’: should criminals be banned from pubs instead of sent to prison?

We’re asking people in Cardiff for their thoughts on radical new plans that would mean criminals aren’t sent to prison, but instead banned from things like sports events and pubs.

00:00I think that's a terrible idea, I, you know, if you want, prisons are a stopgap, you know,

00:12they work for some cases, you know, some people need to be separated away from society where

00:18they cannot hurt people, you know, if you are a murderer.

00:23I think that it's like an overthrowing of the whole criminal justice system really and

00:26I think that's probably not something that will ever come into effect, so I think it's

00:30a silly question.

00:33To be honest, I don't feel like that's a good substitute, because say if you've got a very

00:39disciplined person, so for example, like a disciplined bank robber, if you ban sports

00:46events or something, that's like nothing, he can just discipline himself to put himself,

00:51so that's not really, and obviously that's one end of the spectrum, but like that's not

00:56really a punishment to be honest.
