00:00Analysts expect the unity government to retain the Ayer Kuning state seat without any difficulty,

00:07but say the real challenge will lie in garnering a bigger majority.

00:11Asmi Hassan of Academy Nusantara and Hisunguddin Bakar of Ilham Center

00:16agreed that the collaboration between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan

00:20would see the candidates securing a majority of at least 2,213,

00:26the margin by which the last election for the seat was won.

00:30Asmi said a challenge for UMNO would be to get as many of its diehard supporters

00:34as possible to cast their ballots, as the voter turnout for by-elections is usually low.

00:40Hisunguddin cautioned the government against ignoring the threat posed by Perikatan Nasional.

00:45He pointed out that PN's candidate for Ayer Kuning won 6,812 votes in the 15th general election,

00:52a significant jump from the 2,000 votes secured by PAS in the 14th general election.

00:58The Ayer Kuning state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman,
