00:00Malaysian P Panir Selvan has been granted a stay of execution by Singapore's Court of
00:08Appeal today.
00:09Panir, who was convicted in 2017 by the Singapore High Court for Drug Trafficking, was scheduled
00:16to be executed tomorrow.
00:19His lawyer, Ann Surendran, said the stay was granted by Judge Wu Bi Lee earlier today due
00:24to an ongoing challenge to Section 18 Sub 2 of Singapore's Misuse of Drugs Act and his
00:31complaint about the conduct of his previous lawyer in Singapore, Ong Ying Ping.
00:37Under Section 18 Sub 2, anyone proven or presumed to have had a controlled drug in their possession
00:44is then presumed to have known the nature of that drug unless it is proven otherwise.
00:50Panir has consistently denied knowing that the package he was given to be handed over
00:55to a Singaporean man contained drugs.
00:58He was also granted a stay of execution in 2019.
