00:00Senior Vice President of BP Solutions, who is also the Chairman of the International
00:05Association of Oil and Gas Producers, Giovanni Cristofori, told those attending one of the
00:12panel discussions at the Energy Chamber's 2025 Energy Conference that the issue of long-term
00:18investments in the energy business is a complex picture.
00:21We do treasure a stable environment in terms of policy, the industry doesn't like surprises,
00:29but I think that the stability in Trinidad and Tobago in terms of energy policies could
00:34be really a competitive advantage when companies like BP choose where to invest.
00:40Chief Executive Officer of ProMan AG, David Cassidy, also weighed in on that matter.
00:45We have to understand that the international markets need to know that this is a good and
00:50sound country and I think the government's done a great job of providing that platform,
00:55letting people who know Trinidad and Tobago so that the ProMans of the world don't have
00:58to teach people who ProMan Trinidad is, enabling the products that come out of here not to
01:05be subject to random tariffs.
01:07I mean we've been unfairly treated as a country and there's a constant sort of threat and
01:13shadow of tariffs and it goes hand in hand with the other thing which is making people
01:17realise who Trinidad is and how great it is.
01:21The top ProMan executive then referred to a point made by Energy Minister Stuart Young
01:25at the conference on Monday.
01:27I would say that it's one of the great successes of being here in Trinidad over more than 30
01:32years of different governments.
01:33We've been able to work well and collaborate with each one but as we look forward and the
01:41Minister mentioned that we have an election this year, as we look forward we want to make
01:45sure there's that consistency.
01:47The top BP and ProMan executives did not make any mention of political parties or politicians
01:54by name.
01:55TV6 News spoke with Minister Young on Tuesday about one of the words used by the ProMan
02:00top executive as the Energy Minister is preparing to be the next Prime Minister when Dr Keith
02:06Rowley resigns as the head of the government before the next general election is due.
02:11Is one of your messages at this energy conference as you are soon to be Prime Minister of Trinidad
02:16and Tobago, the issue of consistency be it within the energy sector or in just doing
02:22business in general in Trinidad and Tobago?
02:24What we have shown and one of the messages coming out of my discussion yesterday to the
02:29audience is you now have had the opportunity to see what it is that we as a government
02:34are capable of.
02:36You know the role that I have played so we have a decision to make, there's no bones
02:40about that.
02:41We have a decision to make by August of this year, September latest, right, with that sort
02:46of time frame.
02:47So you know the population can see and for me it's three C's, it's confidence, competence
02:54and consistency.
02:56The Prime Minister is the only one who can call the date for the general election in
03:00Trinidad and Tobago.
