The Energy Minister has announced that the Cabinet on Thursday approved a committee that shall look into the restart of the mothballed State-owned oil refinery in Point-a-Pierre.

Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal said the committee will be chaired of a former Energy Minister of the 2010 to 2015 People's Partnerships administration.

00:00The Energy Minister has announced that the Cabinet today approved a committee that will look into the restart of the mothballed state-owned oil refinery in Pointe-A-Pay.
00:08Minister Dr. Rudal Munilal said the committee will be chaired by a former Energy Minister of the 2010-2015 People's Partnership Admin.
00:18We have taken immediate steps towards the goal of reactivation of the refinery, which has been out of commission for almost seven years.
00:28A committee has now been approved by the Cabinet.
00:32The committee would be led by former Minister of Energy and Petroleum Engineer, Mr. Kevin Ramnarein.
00:39The committee includes former Vice President of Finance at Petritrin, Mrs. Reba Ali-Raja,
00:46former Vice President Retail and Marketing of Petritrin, Mr. Kelvin Harananan,
00:51former refinery manager, Mr. Gautam Maharaj.
00:54The Energy Minister said the committee is due to submit a report of its findings to him within the next four months.
01:03We are hoping that this committee will take a maximum of four months, maybe less,
01:09to return with a report to the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries,
01:13which will be transmitted to the Cabinet and will speak to the issue of the reopening of the refinery,
01:19its current state and assessment of its technical capacity,
01:24and, of course, a projection as to what would be required in terms of feedstock supply,
01:31human resource requirements, its technical assessment, readiness,
01:37and the infrastructure and utility profile as exist.
01:41This committee, we believe, will be meeting very soon.
