The energy analyst says over the past few weeks, two oil and gas discoveries were made
00:07
within the east coast acreage of Trilidad and Tobago.
00:11
He says it's a positive sign for the country.
00:14
Javed Razak also notes his disappointment with another project that he says has been kept quiet.
00:20
What I found is that there's a lack of discussion on the actual large discovery in our own deep water,
00:26
the one that BHP had that would tighten our controls for Calypso.
00:30
That project and I'm surprised that both administrations haven't spoken about it in the last couple months
00:35
and it's a field almost the size of Dragon and it's gas.
00:39
Razak also notes the need for projects to move past the red tape quickly.
00:45
He says there is engineering and commercial negotiations, discussions and feasibility tests to be done on every project
00:52
but it need not move at a snail's pace.
00:55
One of the killers of a lot of these things is that the decision-making time in the country
01:01
by different regulatory bodies is so cumbersome and a lot of times disjointed that it could kill a project
01:09
but it can slow it down to the point where it doesn't become viable or it just takes forever to get there.
01:14
Additionally, he tells us, he believes the reopening of the Petrotrin refinery is a good idea
01:19
A timeline for that could be two years or more if you do everything right
01:27
because there's so much to be done and assessed and so on
01:30
assuming that you have a right investor partner and you have that plan ready, right?
01:35
So it certainly, I think it's a great way forward but we have to be diligent about it
01:42
and I'm not sure that anybody's in a position to say how easy it is to reopen
01:48
or also can it really be viable the way we think.
