00:00Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin tells TV6's Morning Edition,
00:05during the state of emergency there has been a noticeable reduction in
00:09homicides and violent crime. He says he is hoping things continue this way.
00:15However, he warns those who seek to engage the police that officers will not
00:20be backing down. We want to continue along that and therefore we will continue
00:25to go after the criminals. We are going to ensure a zero tolerance. We are
00:30telling anyone if you only seek to engage the police we are not going to
00:35back down. We are going to stand up and based on you know the use of force
00:39policy we will deal with matters decisively. The acting top cop warns that
00:44he will not be blinded by rose-colored glasses. He says no rotten apples will be
00:51allowed to permeate the police service. Let's not put our heads in the sand.
00:57We have you know persons you know that are even on both within the organization
01:04and you know and outside of the organization that might be probably
01:08tipping off individuals but nevertheless I'm saying that there's a
01:11zero tolerance in relation to police corruption and indiscipline that I would
01:17continue to uphold because it is something that was there before I came
01:22and I am saying that even under Commissioner Christopher that was part
01:28and parcel of one of her main state. He acknowledges that criminal elements
01:35modify their techniques and admits that officers must do the same as the war
01:41against crime continues. It is important that we understand that crime is not
01:48static it is dynamic and therefore it is not something that you can you know
01:53determine off the bat and say this this will work all the time. We have to
01:58constantly allow our stats to really help us and therefore we believe in what
02:05we call intelligence-led evidence-based technology driven solutions to the crime
