The Arima Offices of the Registrar General's Department were closed today after a staff member sustained injuries in an attack by a member of the public.

00:00The Registrar General Department's Arima Sub-Office and the Department's Arima District Registrar
00:06was closed on Friday following what the Department called a random act of violence which occurred
00:12on Thursday.
00:13In a statement on Thursday night, the Office of the Attorney General announced that staff's
00:18welfare needs and office repairs needed to be addressed.
00:22The Attorney General's Office said that on Thursday, February 6th, a member of the
00:27public, without any known motive, violently attacked a customer service representative
00:32at the Arima Sub-Office of the Registrar General's Department, causing physical harm to the employee
00:38and damaging the infrastructure of the office.
00:41The AG's Office said the perpetrator was apprehended and is in police custody, with investigations
00:47now ongoing.
00:48The Registrar General's Department falls under the Office of the Attorney General, and according
00:52to its website, oversees civil, land, and commercial registration in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:58The Registrar General's Department also maintains the National Archive of Births, Adoptions,
01:04Marriages, and Deaths from 1893, record land titles, and maintains a registrar of companies
01:12and businesses.
01:13Regarding the closure of the Registrar General Department's offices in Arima, the AG's Office
01:18said that in the interim, all District Registrar services can be accessed at the Mount Hope
01:24District Registrar or Sangre Grandi District Registrar.
01:29The AG's Office also said all registry services are accessible at the Port of Spain Head Office
01:34and the San Fernando Sub-Office, and can be accessed online via www.agla.gov.tt.
