Woman charged over death of nine-year-old boy in Townsville

Police have described the murder of a nine-year-old boy in north Queensland as 'abhorrent'. A 24-year-old woman has been charged over the death.

00:00In this suburban Townsville home, a young life was tragically cut short.

00:07We heard what happened and to be honest it makes us feel like we want to move.

00:12Officers were called to the home on Saturday night where they found the body of a nine-year-old boy with severe head wounds.

00:19The injury is consistent with what I would say at this stage appears to be blunt force trauma.

00:2524-year-old Sineada Kakadu has been charged with murder.

00:29Police allege she had a loose family connection to the boy.

00:32The young person had been staying at that location for a period of time, cared for by the 20-foot-old woman.

00:37Anything involving a traumatic injury and the death of a child which in circumstances like this occurs, you know, is quite abhorrent.

00:44You can't help but be moved and shed a tear for every family involved in a kid

00:49when a child in Queensland or anywhere loses their life in such circumstances that just sounds so horrendous.

00:56The Kirwin home will remain a crime scene while police await the results of an autopsy.

01:01The accused was remanded in custody due to appear in court in April.
