00:00About 5pm on Monday, 21st of September this year, police were called to a unit in Fairway
00:06Drive North West in relation to a shooting. Police discovered a 12-year-old boy who had
00:11sustained a gunshot wound to the face. He was treated by ambulance officers and conveyed to
00:17Children's Hospital in a critical condition. Unfortunately, three days later, being the 24th
00:22of September, Felicia advised that the child had succumbed to those injuries and passed away.
00:27The Homicide Squad took leadership of the investigation with the assistance of North West Metro
00:33Region investigators. The investigation was conducted up until the current date. I can
00:39tell you from that investigation, we were able to establish that there were a total of nine
00:43other persons in that unit at the time of the shooting. All of those persons have been spoken
00:50to and supplied a version. A firearm that was involved has not been recovered to date and
00:58investigations are ongoing in relation to trying to locate that. And at the time, an 18-year-old
01:03male who has now turned 19 was charged with the offence of concealed serious offence. Yesterday,
01:10that male who is now 19 years old has been charged with the offence of murder in relation to his
01:16involvement in regards to the death of the 12-year-old child. We will be alleging that the 19-year
01:23-old
01:23male discharged the handgun, striking the victim in the chin, resulting in the fatal consequences.
01:31We preferred a charge of murder based on what we will allege was a dangerous and reckless act
01:38by the 19-year-old male. We are not suggesting or there is no evidence at this stage to show
01:44that it
01:45was a deliberate shooting or it was an accidental shooting. So we're relying on the fact it was
01:50dangerous and reckless. We're also not suggesting, as previously reported, that the child may have
01:56shot himself. We are clearly alleging that the 19-year-old male is responsible for this tragic death
02:02of the 12-year-old.
