Confronting scene as mum charged with daughter's murder

00:00In my 15 year career as a detective it's one of the most confronting scenes I have seen.

00:04Police were called to a residence in Carrara on the Gold Coast following a report of a young girl

00:09being discovered unresponsive by her father. Despite her father and emergency services best

00:14efforts the young 10 year old girl was pronounced deceased by the attending paramedics. An

00:21investigation was immediately commenced and as a result the child's mother has been arrested for

00:26her murder. The victim is a 10 year old girl. It's my understanding that she attends a local

00:32school. I believe the school may have released a statement in relation to her attendance at

00:36that school but I won't be providing any further comment in relation to that at this stage. But

00:42due to the nature of it and the impact this has on the school community our thoughts do

00:45go out to that school at this time.
