00:00Former Prime Minister Najib Razak today named former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Abu Qasim Mohamad
00:09as the person who provided information on 1MDB to the US Department of Justice.
00:15Najib told the High Court that he became aware of the matter while still in office
00:20after the DOJ announced it was bringing civil forfeiture actions in 2016.
00:26He said it was unfair that MACC had not recorded his statement on 1MDB at the time,
00:32adding that the anti-graff agency should have gotten his side of the story.
00:36Najib said he was previously assured by Abu Qasim that he was not involved in the investigation.
00:42He added that he did not ask those investigating the case for any favours.
00:48Najib also said ex-1MDB chairman Bakeh Saleh should have briefed him in person
00:53if the state of affairs at 1MDB was serious, instead of texting him.
00:58Bakeh, who resigned in 2009, previously told the court that he informed Najib via SMS
01:04that 1MDB's management was going against instructions from the company's board of directors.
01:10He said Najib never replied to the message.
01:13Najib is standing trial on 25 counts of money laundering and abuse of power
01:18over alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion
01:23deposited into his Ambank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
