00:00Malaysiakini journalist B. Nanda Kumar insists that he has never solicited bribes from foreign
00:06worker agents or profited from his stories exposing foreign workers smuggling syndicates.
00:12In a Malaysiakini report today, Nanda denied MACC chief Azam Baqi's claim that he had
00:17asked a foreign worker agent for a RM100,000 bribe which was later negotiated down to RM20,000.
00:24He said two Pakistani agents mentioned in the article offered him RM50,000 to settle
00:29the matter but he refused.
00:31Nanda said he immediately brought the matter up to the state immigration director who asked
00:36him to engage with the agents again to help gather stronger evidence.
00:40Nanda and the Pakistani agent then agreed to meet in a hotel in Shah Alam where he pretended
00:45to express interest in working together with the agent.
00:48He said the agent then handed him an envelope which he took as evidence to be handed to
00:53the immigration director.
00:55However, Nanda said more than a dozen MACC officers confronted him within seconds.
01:00He was remanded for four days before being released on Tuesday.
