00:00Najib Razak denied that he breached a Cabinet Minister's Code of Ethics
00:05by not distancing himself from Low-Tech Joe or Joe Low,
00:09the purported mastermind behind 1MDB.
00:12The former Prime Minister said he was uneasy about Low
00:15when news broke out about the fugitive businessman's lavish lifestyle,
00:19as well as after Taekwoon Tong Kooi Ong informing him
00:22that Low needed to be held accountable for 1MDB.
00:26However, Najib claimed he left the investigations to agencies
00:30as well as the Public Accounts Committee and did not stop them.
00:34He denied the need to stay clear of Low,
00:36saying the businessman was needed
00:37because of his ties with Chinese government officials.
00:41Najib also insisted that the 2015 removal of former Attorney-General
00:45Abdul Ghani Patel, a member of the disbanded 1MDB Task Force,
00:50was unrelated to 1MDB,
00:52and investigations continued despite the task force's dissolution.
00:56Najib also insisted that the 1MDB investigations brought against him
01:00were unfair and that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's
01:03questioning did not appear to target him.
01:06He said the investigation papers were sent to the Attorney-General's chambers
01:10before his statements were recorded,
01:12which he described as a serious transgression of his rights.
