00:00A former 1MDB chairman today denied claims he was assisting Najib Razak in his defence

00:07to charges of abuse of power and money laundering of the company's funds.

00:11Cheikh Lodin Wak Kamaruddin told the High Court he was only giving his version of events

00:16that took place in the company over the course of his eight-year tenure, which ran from 2009

00:21to 2016.

00:24During the examination in chief by lawyer Shafi Abdullah, Lodin said he tried to present

00:29what had happened during the operations of 1MDB when he was the chairman and a board

00:34member.

00:35Shafi had asked Lodin whether he was giving evidence to support Najib's defence.

00:41Lodin said that he did ask the company's secretary why fugitive businessman Loh Teck

00:45Jo, better known as Jo Loh, was in a 1MDB meeting as he was not a director or staff

00:50member, adding that he did not know who invited Loh.

00:54Lodin added that Loh did not give him the impression that he was an advisor to the former

00:58Prime Minister.

00:59Najib is on trial for 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering over funds amounting

01:04to RM2.28 billion that were deposited into his M-Bank accounts between February 2011

01:10and December 2014.
