Sunshine ahead, but the sea's got a temper. Josette Deonanan got the details in your weather forecast.

Transcript
00:00It has been such a hectic first week of that back-to-school routine for many parents like
00:05myself and some are contemplating heading to the beach for that much-needed relaxation.
00:10Josette is here to tell us, are the C's going to cooperate for a family beach day?
00:16Thanks, Avishai. And to the parents who survived the first week of school runs,
00:20homework, and the chaos that comes with it, a beach day sounds like the perfect plan to unwind.
00:25But while the weather is on our side for the most part, it's actually the C's we need to
00:30be concerned about. As of midnight tonight, and I think I might have induced some pandemic PTSD,
00:36and running until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14th, the northern coastlines of Trinidad and Tobago,
00:42including some areas along the Gulf of Paria, will be affected, especially during high tides.
00:48So, here's a look at our tide times.
01:03But what exactly is happening? Well, we're experiencing some high-energy long-period
01:08swells to produce large breakers along naso-coastal areas. While these waves might
01:14not be constant, they can create sudden large battering waves. But why does this matter?
01:19Saltwater intrusion and sand displacement could occur further inland than usual.
01:24Saltwater can damage roads, coastal structures, and even nearby homes. For ecosystems,
01:29it can harm mangroves, nesting sites, and freshwater habitats. And if you're swimming,
01:34displaced sand can create dangerous drop-offs and uneven underwater terrain. So, it's best
01:40to avoid venturing too far out. For fishermen, boaters, and families, this means disruptions to
01:45natural activities like fishing, swimming, and mooring boats. So, please, we're urging you to
01:50stay cautious and plan accordingly. Now, for tonight, we're in for some fair and cool conditions,
01:55perfect if you're heading out after a long week. Temperatures are going to dip to around 22 in
02:00Trinidad and 24 in Tobago. So, if you're staying in, it's going to be perfect for a cozy night in
02:06after a long week. Now, for early rises tomorrow, the sun is set to say hello at 627 in Trinidad and
02:13626 in Tobago. The sun sets at six o'clock in Trinidad and 556 in Tobago. Now, as we move into
02:21our weekend, let's take a look at what it's shaping up to be. Well, first of all, temperatures are
02:26looking to be an even 32 degrees, 31 in Tobago, across the board. On Saturday, we'll be seeing
02:32some partly cloudy patches in the morning due to some low-level convergence from the northeast.
02:37Brief showers may interrupt otherwise fair conditions with a slight chance of a moderate
02:41or heavy shower favoring Tobago and northeast Trinidad. The rest of the Lesser Antilles will
02:46be mostly fair and sunny, though isolated showers could develop near hilly areas.
02:51Sunday, now, it looks mostly fair and sunny over Trinidad and Tobago. A few brief showers may pop
02:57in varying areas across the Lesser Antilles, but overall, it's shaping up to be a nice day.
03:02On Monday, it brings more fair and sunny skies, though a weak line of convergence from the
03:07northeast could bring an isolated moderate shower to Tobago and northern Trinidad. Across the
03:12Lesser Antilles, similar conditions are expected with brief isolated showers near the hilly regions.
03:19Now, quickly stepping outside our borders, wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles County
03:24in the United States. The death toll climbs up to 10 after four major wildfires broke out,
03:29with over 153,000 people under evacuation orders. Authorities are working tirelessly,
03:35but strong winds and dry conditions are complicating their efforts. This is also
03:39shaping up to be one of the costliest fires in U.S. history, with over 10,000 properties
03:45already destroyed. So, while the skies may stay mostly friendly this weekend,
03:52those hazardous seas are something to keep in mind if you're heading to the beach.
03:56Plan wisely, and as always, stay safe. More news after this break.
