Put down the guns and play sport instead...

That's the message from CANOC secretary general and Harvard President Brian Lewis, who is hurt by the crime situation in the country...

Former Harvard rugby player Kambon Omowale, was gunned down over the weekend and Lewis the clubs president says it's high time sport is used as a tool to fight crime.

00:00Kanok Secretary General Brian Lewis is concerned with what's been happening in TNT regarding
00:04crime.
00:05Speaking of which, the rugby fraternity is mourning the recent loss of Cambon Omowale
00:10who was senselessly killed in Laventille.
00:12Omowale was a former Harvard club and national youth level rugby player who according to
00:16Lewis was a positive influence in his community.
00:20And former footballer Terry St. Louis was recently held with guns and ammunition.
00:23Lewis does not want society to lose hope or courage and wants sport to be the vehicle
00:28to mitigate the crime situation.
00:58Good people involved in sport losing their lives to the senseless violence and we are
01:05also seeing allegations of people involved in sport, involved in criminal activity.
01:12Lewis is known to speak out on injustices in sport such as doping, racism, gambling
01:17and money laundering.
01:18As such, he is making a plea to those in charge to try and make things happen.
01:23And it is very important that we do not bury our heads in the sand and the sports fraternity
01:34must do its part.
01:39We have to be innovative, we have to be fearless and we have to figure out a way in sport to
01:47make a different contribution.
01:50It certainly can't be business as usual.
01:53Lewis is a long serving sport leader and currently the Harvard club president.
01:58He is also the immediate past president of the TTOC who promises to play his part for
02:03the betterment of citizens.
02:04I will continue to articulate and advocate for the power of sport and sport as a universal
02:13language to make its contribution to making Trinidad and Tobago a better place and to
02:26use the power of sport and advocate for the use of the power of sport and the universal
02:31language that is sport to make a positive difference in the lives of the youth and young
02:37people.
02:38Lewis will be involved in the Going for Gold Walk on January 19th starting 2am at St Mary's
02:44Junction in Freeport and finishing at Harvard Club in St Clair.
