00:14Donald Rose served as a sniper and a desert rat in North Africa, Belgium, Holland and

00:20Germany during World War II.

00:22He also did his duty with the Queen's Royal Regiment and earned a number of medals during

00:26his service.

00:28Among these was the Legion d'Honneur, France's highest honour.

00:32Donald was born on Christmas Eve 1914, the same year that Britain was plunged into the

00:36First World War.

00:38This year, the sprightly centenarian will celebrate his milestone birthday with a wartime-themed

00:43party at his care home in Ilkeston.

00:46He previously joked that his long life was down to his insides being pickled by drinking

00:51seawater and eating dog biscuits during the war.

00:56To get Santa's workshop, Aldi has revealed that Derbyshire is officially among the top

01:01destinations for Christmas cheer in the whole UK.

01:04The budget supermarket surveyed colleagues across its UK stores to discover which shoppers

01:09across the country were feeling the most festive.

01:12The survey looked at factors such as Christmas spirit in stores, how early shoppers started

01:17stocking up for the big day, and the demand for Christmas essentials.

01:21Derbyshire was named amongst the most festive in the entire country, along with Essex, Northumberland

01:26and Nottinghamshire.
