Minority Leader Kelvon Morris is accusing the Tobago Regional Health Authority of purchasing The Palms Villas in Signal Hill, Tobago at a cost of $20 million, at a time when the Assembly itself complains of a shortage of allocations from Central Government.
Morris spoke during a media briefing in Scarborough, on Friday. Elizabeth Williams was there and has this report.

00:00And the reason why this purchase is so troubling to the minority is because it
00:08speaks of misplaced priorities. You would know this current administration
00:13continuously tells us that they have a deficiency when it comes to their
00:19budgetary allocation and you keep hearing them saying we have no money, we
00:24have no money, we have no money. And therefore, it begs the question, if you
00:30don't have any money, how then does purchasing villas become a priority of
00:39the Tobago Regional Health Authority? The Palms, according to the minority leader,
00:46has been on the real estate market for several years. TV6 News visited the
00:52Villas on Friday. Why is the THA spending an estimated $20 million to
00:59purchase this Palms Villas? A property that has been on the market for years
01:04and my information is the property is significantly rundown instead of
01:11addressing Tobago's urgent health crisis. And what makes this even more alarming
01:19and concerning is the fact that the current signal, the Scarborough Regional
01:25Hospital, that hospital sits on 25 acres of land. Mr. Morris is asking, who is to
01:35benefit from this agreement? And then we have to ask, who is to benefit from this?
01:40Who is the lawyer or the middle agent that would have negotiated this deal? And
01:47what was their payment? Let us know the name. Let us know who was the person that
01:54brokered this deal. TV6 contacted Health Secretary Dr. Faith Beisrael on the
01:59matter. The Health Secretary said the TRHE has commenced talks with the
02:05landowners adjacent to the Scarborough General Hospital. She said these talks
02:10are all in break and at this stage not subject to contract. Elizabeth Williams,
